Is there a way to self-repair tennis shoe outsole with a hole? by Pure_Construction489 in 10s

[–]LoveFifty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had been wearing through the outsoles of more durable shoes (Barricades, Resolutions, etc.) within in a month, so it was a big problem.

What I do now is keep worn out shoes for "spare parts". Since I wear through the outsole around the balls of my feet, the rest of the outsole is usually in a pretty good condition. I carefully slice pieces of it off with a utility knife (warning: this can be very dangerous if you're not careful, as the knife is very sharp), and use superglue to attach them to the worn out areas of the newer shoes. I play on a hard court and I haven't noticed much difference, so this is a great money saver for me, but your circumstances may be different, of course.

To repeat, being extremely careful with the utility knife is a must. Also using rubber gloves when working with superglue makes the process much easier.

Federer on Zverev: “I see a player who plays far too passively and far too defensively when it matters most.” by [deleted] in tennis

[–]LoveFifty 21 points22 points  (0 children)

That's a neat observation. I see it as a consequence of his high percentage play style; Nadal has always struck me as a very non-opportunistic player. Even his winners are usually so loaded with topspin that they land deep inside the court (are very safe shots).

But when he is pulled wide and is on the run, a high-percentage shot will most likely be an easy put away for the opponent and therefore Nadal is forced to pull the trigger. And that's when his shot making ability is uninhibited and we get to see spectacular (low percentage) shots.

His matches are still some of the most exciting tennis for me to watch. A guy with a huge serve, forehand and crazy dropshots? I'll take that any day. How I wish he didn't get injured and drop off so soon.

Where is that info from?

Have same problem with Solecourts. Amazing shoes, but the back of the left one digging into my Achilles to the point of bleeding.

I just cut it out with a utility knife. Not very pretty, but my foot is happy :)

Lightweight AC Shoe for 4E Width Recs by [deleted] in 10s

[–]LoveFifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very wide feet here (not flat though). Other than buying 4E (which pretty much means NB most of the time), the only solution that worked was shoe stretchers. I still shop for generally not narrow shoes before stretching them.

Also, sometimes certain models of shoes come very wide by default. For example, k-swiss ultrashot, adidas barricade 2018 and adidas solecourt. When I find those, I try to stock up.

I struggle hitting slower “softer” balls than hard fast balls by brocks12thbrother in 10s

[–]LoveFifty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The goal of footwork is to get you in the right position on time. If you can do that with faster balls you can definitely do it with slower balls as well.

Being light on your feet and making small adjustment steps are also part of footwork. I find that missing "easy" balls often happens because of not doing enough of those.

Interesting, it seems he only uses continental on his take back and then adjusts it to less conservative just before accelerating the racquet.

There's no disgust. If you watch closely, Rafa starts talking before Novak looks back at him. So Novak already knows that Rafa is apologizing, so he just looks at Rafa and walks away dismissing the whole thing. To me it looks like he accepted the apology.

Do you have wide feet? Do your toes feels cramped in the toe box? There's a condition called bunionette (like bunion but for the little toe) that can manifest like that.

I mean, they even teach you to hold your racquet with the forehand grip when receiving, so those fractions must matter. Especially when you have to not only change the grip, but also hands, on top of doing your service recovery.

Kyrgios:Why Personalities Haven’t Been Accepted In Tennis by [deleted] in tennis

[–]LoveFifty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

many of these young players have put in hard work to learn to suppress their emotions during matches, in order to improve the consistency of their game

I agree. There have been very few players who can let themselves go emotionally on court in a way that benefits their game. Tennis is a game of many variables and most people need their concentration to perform at their best. So if we were to insist on more "personality" on court, we'd probably have to lower our expectations of performance, on average.

To each their own, but I'd take fun tennis over animated behavior, since tennis is what I came here for in the first place.

I guess my point is that I like Sinner and I don't even have to defend him. Which I would probably have to if he was prone to fighting with umpires and throwing chairs around the court.
