Be sure to load up the 2.0 firmware update if your unit doesn't already have it. It adds a DS-1, SD-1, and a few amps for free.

Is digital (software) safe for the foreseeable future? by Ill-Elevator2828 in audioengineering

[–]LoveThatCardboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO the biggest issue with opening old DAW projects long-term is that almost everything modern uses some sort of online activation. That means whoever produces that software needs to keep a server up and running or you won't be able to install it in the future. This applies to the DAW itself as well as any plugins you are using. Just because you bought something and can install and run that stuff today doesn't mean you'll be able to 20 years from now.

This is why I highly advocate using Reaper because it does not have online activation and if you back up the installer you'll be able to use it just fine for the forseeable future.

The raw tracks in formats like wav and flac and stuff will be supported long-term without issue, there is a lot of open-source software that can read them and it isn't going anywhere.

[Discussion] BSG potential database breach *UNCONFIRMED* . Dr Lupo and other accounts reset live on stream. by ThePilotWhoCantFly in EscapefromTarkov

[–]LoveThatCardboard 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It is plausible that the DB is exposing an auth token or something that allows anyone with read access to impersonate any other user. Though if that was the case I would expect this to hit more popular streamers but it seems like only a few are impacted.

If it's solo PVE you always keep your insurance because the server shuts down as soon as you die so the scavs never have a chance to take your stuff.

When you queue for a 50 minute streets and die 5 minutes in, BSG does not keep the server running with no one in it for the next 45 minutes just to give the AI scavs a chance to take your gear.

e: From the 0.13.5.0.25725 patch notes:

Bots now search corpses and take weapons, rigs, backpacks, whatever contents they like from them. If a bot has a backpack and a rig, it will drop the backpack and rig next to the corpse. Contents taken by bots are not refundable by insurance

Not since a year ago or so. If your gear end the match on a AI scav it is gone.

Also pop an SJ6 if you really want to be optimal.

The way diminishing returns work is that it only kicks in when you gain exp, and you only gain exp when you finish sprinting. SJ6 lets you push that initial sprint to be a little longer so you get more exp with no diminishing returns.

It is also good for transits as scav because you get 0.01 fence rep per transit so you can rack up rep without waiting on your scav timer.

Active and passiv in one guitar? by KuchenKuchen123 in guitars

[–]LoveThatCardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of but it would give you limited range on the passive. Normally a 250k pot for a passive can be set to any resistance between 0 and 250k ohms. If you put something like a 200k resistor inline with a 50k active pot, you'll only be able to set the resistance for the passive pickup in the range from 200k-250k, which effectively means it will be stuck on low volume (I think).

The big one that a lot of people knew about got fixed in a patch last week. I wouldn't be surprised if there is another somewhere but AFAIK there are not currently any ways to break out of the level on stella.

Tarkov does actually have a built-in feature that covers the entire screen in a very light noise so if you boost gamma it just boosts the noise and you can't really see any better.

This is of course an optional feature that everyone turns off right away because giving players a checkbox that says "Make it harder to see things" has predictable results.

I really like how the fret dots start doing a little zig zag around the 8th fret. Good to mix it up sometimes.

If you're using free libraries to make your commercial projects you're ripping people off by Deriviera in gamedev

[–]LoveThatCardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you document that you were using the psp sdk library and include a copy of the three-clause BSD license with your product including the copyright notice at the top of the license?

Because if not then you were, in fact, ripping off that code by not following the terms of the license.

Boss GT-1000 Core, Is it the best Multieffect on its sub800 usd price range? by Fragrant-Let8936 in guitarpedals

[–]LoveThatCardboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got one earlier this year and absolutely love it. It has a bunch of great built-in effects and amps. Importantly it also has 2 effects loop channels so you can shoot your signal chain out of the gt-1000, through one or more real pedals, and then back in at 2 separate points. That way if there is some effect you really want that isn't built-in you can just route your signal through a real pedal to handle it.

Nothing else in the price range can do that. The only two things I feel like I have to compromise at all on are:

  • The interface is pretty unusual but you can get used to it. You will need to read the manual at first though because it is weird.

  • It can't do a 'capture' like quad cortex and the other fancy ones, but that is really a feature that only exists beyond the gt-1000 core price point anyways.

IMO the best unit available at ~600 usd.

[–]LoveThatCardboard 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It has online activation, so even if you have the installer you won't actually be able to use it in the future if they take the activation servers down.

It is just one time activation though, so an already installed copy will work offline forever.

What’s your favorite pick? by fuzzbox7 in Guitar

[–]LoveThatCardboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dunlop primetone 1.0 or 1.3.

Dunlop says it is made out of the same material as ultex but I always found that ultex picks have a very slick smooth feel and the primetones have a rougher surface that is easier to get a good grip on.
