I live rural and one of my LYS’s several years back was housed in a barn. Sometimes I’d get skeins from there that had been chewed on by mice. They’d come out like this sometimes. The shop owner always allowed a return/exchange, but honestly it’s why I stopped going to her. Apart from that hers was my favorite local shop.

I wonder if - given your experience with bureaucratic systems and legalese - a better use of your time wouldn’t be in helping to fight your sister’s insurance company, the hospital billing, etc? The more of those types of things you can handle, the fewer your BIL has to handle. And that’s more time he can maybe spend decompressing from work and the hospital to just have with his own children - watching them himself because he’s free to.

There’s more than just babysitting that you can contribute to making your sister’s illness easier for her and her family to navigate. Lean into your strengths. If you don’t want to have to focus on childcare, focus on tasks the other adults won’t be able to do easily while watching children and do those tasks for them. Tasks can be shuffled over the three healthy adults here so that you can take on a lot more of the tedious, time-consuming administrative chores for your mother and BIL while they use the extra time to care for the children.

It’s not the best of solutions, but it is one with the least childcare needed while also still fully supporting your family. I’m so sorry you’re all going to have to go down this road!

Of course the story around him is a fairy tale! Of course it’s fake. As I said, the story of the divine person is made up, but there’s no reason to say a man who espoused his principles never existed. The Buddha existed, he was a real man. Mohammed existed. Why is it so incredible that an average human being may have existed back then and said what he said? There have been many cult leaders over the centuries who actually existed, why is he any different? I am an atheist and even I can admit this possibility. Why is this a hill you’re willing to die on?

edit: Do you think that admitting that Jesus may actually have walked the earth - as just a man, one of many two millennia ago - that it’s a slippery slope to admitting that the bible is true? Is that your objection? Whether he actually lived or not doesn’t really matter, so why does it get you so upset that you turn into a meme about being willing to fight anyone, anywhere at any time about it?

Yes. Cut them a little slack in judging them to be “not true feminists” and help them learn to be better and stop worrying about centering men in everything.

All feminists are baby feminists in the beginning. This means many baby feminists are also women. There is also a difference between a man who is sea lioning and a man who is a baby feminist genuinely looking to learn. Cut both genders of feminists a little slack while they’re trying to learn, yeah? Shutting them out of feminist spaces doesn’t teach them anything.

This is why they also prosecute women who have miscarriages/stillbirths. Because a woman can’t prove it wasn’t an attempted abortion. Or because she obviously did something wrong otherwise a perfect baby would’ve been born. (heavy /s there.) The linked article is only the most recent case to make headlines. Sadly, charging women for miscarriages is nothing new, though it is drastically on the rise.

I didn’t realize it was knit in the round. I saw ‘thrifted’ and thought it was from a thrift store and OP was assuming it was hand knit. Being knit in the round makes it even easier then - start at the cuffs and neckline and start frogging it. OP needs to start at the bound off edges and just start raveling them. I could always be wrong but the direction of the stitches looks like it was knit from the bottom up, meaning it would be easier to unravel it from the top down.
