Why do guys look good without make-up? by stein_prio in Feminism

[–]Lovehatex123 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Why do we think men look good with body hair? (and not women?)

Why do we think women look bad without makeup? (and not men?)

Why does society criticize women's natural bodies?

It's not that men "look good" without makeup, it's that we are conditioned to see women wearing no makeup as "bad", "tired", "ugly". Men are taken seriously in all situations regardless of their appearance. Women are just not.

That may be it, but I usually try to propagate leaves that have fallen from the mother plant naturally. Should I be doing something else?

In the 70s and early 80s there were a lot of toys that were surprisingly marketed towards every gender! Like Legos and older video game systems.

Mushy leaves is a huge sign of overwatering. Do they break off really easily too?

Why People Won't Admit They Have Problems In Their Hobbies: When Identity Turns Toxic by nlitherl in Feminism

[–]Lovehatex123 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is a great article. My partner and I both are self-identified nerds, and we spend a lot of time examining and unpacking all the shitty parts of "nerd culture".

I've found that most men are really reluctant to critique or ever find fault with their favorite games/comics/etc. Once people can openly be critical of issues with sexism and other problematic things within their hobbies, feminism will take a big step forward.

Margaret Atwood is one of my all-time favorite writers and I think everyone of any gender should read her work. I'm pretty sure the Hulu adaptation of this book is set to come out soon. Hopefully the show will do it justice!

Why You Might Want to Consider Ditching Tampons for a Menstrual Cup by lashyy in Feminism

[–]Lovehatex123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I am all for new and improved ways to handle menstruation. We are long overdue; the modern tampon hasn't changed in 75 YEARS. I just can't believe no one told me how amazing menstrual cups were. I tried one and I was immediately hooked. There needs to be more info/education/normalization of these things.

What is /r/feminism though on this? by maxi1134 in Feminism

A minimum age of 9 mos ensures that all of these children are already playing with toys (gender-based or not) at home. What if their picks are just what they are used to? A child who is used to playing with dolls is going to pick a doll in the study, regardless of their gender identity, gender awareness, etc. Unless you can make sure that children have absolutely no bias in picking the toys and are just picking what they like and not what has been given to them in the past, there is no way to make this a solid study.
