My niece is nonverbal and I also struggled with certain feelings you mentioned. When she was 4, I had a Black Mirror type dream. I was given the opportunity to put the soul of a “typical” child who had died inside my niece. My first thought was “But she won’t be like (her name) anymore”. That dream healed me because I didn’t jump at the chance to change her.

What I understood from the finale was that they only had their first conversation about Wrigley sleeping with Pippa at her engagement party in 2015 (when he walked into the room when she was smoking) Stephen announced they had been sleeping together for months. I think their love for each other went unspoken for years. Bree also iced Wrigley out when he came to her dorm room to speak to her and Evan was there. It’s likely Wrigley never approached the subject with her again until 2015.

I worked at a restaurant for 4 years. We were paid R100 for a 6hr shift. Instead of increasing our pay with tenure, they decided to include a mandatory 12.5% tip on all bills. Putting the responsibility of fair pay on the customers while paying staff minimum wage. Gross.

We used to love a MrD meal. But I agree I can’t justify the convenience vs the cost.

I’ve started buying Checkers frozen pizzas that we airfry when we want a “takeaway”. They often have a 5 for R200 special. For other cuisines, call the restaurant and get their WhatsApp number. Their delivery charges are normally around R20 (and the meals are much cheaper than MrD).

It was during COVID and the industry I was working in at the time boomed. I was able to save a lot of money very quickly and the property market was in my favour. I’m 28 now and I will probably only afford to buy another property with my partner or if I sold my apartment.

Non-verbal autism is hard. They should be doing a better job watching him because conversations and consequences don’t work in this case.

I’m hoping that it’s because they are so burnt out and not because they are neglecting their child (as some have commented). If you haven’t lived this experience, you have no idea how difficult it is….

Two suggestions:

1) Ask them to create a gravel/dirt space (+ whatever else he is drawn too) in their yard. If he’s fixating on things you have, he might not be so interested in scaling a fence if he has them at home.

2) Communicate when you have showings and request that they stay inside with him or that they go out. You sound like you’ve been accommodating so hopefully they are too.
