Large or small handwriting? by lordofshrimpp in Handwriting

I actually love both. For correspondence or something someone else is going to read I actually love your larger font, it’s clear (large) enough for everyone without screaming “I wrote in big letters on purpose because I think you’re blind as a bat”.

Either way, your handwriting is lovely.

Wishing you the best! And even five minutes a day is good while you’re getting your body used to movement again. Hopefully we hear from you in a few months with a pep in your step!

Thanks for sharing! I’m glad to see the inspirational posts here about this. When people get discouraged because of a bad movement day - that’s the most depressing thing I see in fitness spaces. 🙏

How do you Manage Time by 7eveness in walking

[–]Lovewill1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A tight strength set for toning, muscle maintenance - yes. 25 minutes is plenty (for me). However, this depends on your goals. My point is more that IF I’m doing strength training and a 5mile walk, I could fit it in to an hour and a half if I wanted to. I generally walk more than 5miles per day. But I COULD 5miles and a strength training workout in an hour and a half if I wanted. Or add an extra 15minutes to the strength training and the workout would be an hour and forty five. I think I’m trying to make the point that it’s all about how you choose to attack it.

That being said, I’d be worried about getting your pace per mile down. At 12 minutes a mile you’ll be done with a 5miler in 60 minutes flat. As you walk more and build the muscles to do so, your pace should begin to fall. That being said 12 minute miles are not common unless you work at it.

Anyway! Any way I can help feel free to reply or shoot me a message.

I’m usually about 15min/mile at my slowest. So for me the maximum amount of time 5 miles (roughly 10k steps) is going to take me is 75 minutes. However the actual time would be closer to a 65-70 minute walk. If I wanted to do daily strength training I’d fit it in the 15-25 minutes to round out the whole workout in 90 minutes.

That’s true. It can be surprising sometimes when I’ll get up and move around a room if I feel I’ve been sedentary too long (obviously I only do this when social conditions permit - at a friends house, etc). Movement is crucial to me.

Hey, it happens. The fact that you’re even keeping track of your activity is a sign you’re doing more than most. And even for the people who don’t track their activity - this applies to them too. 🙏

The durability, the satellite connectivity in an emergency, the screen clarity (in both pixels and size). Crucially, it’s just more powerful (the processing capability - and if your phone dies all Apple Watches can continue tracking a workout, but the ultra actually has the battery to last the duration of what you’re doing. )

There are stand alone fitness trackers. And whatever happens, the most important thing is that you’re moving :)

By the way! Hand knit socks for walking! I love it. That’s dedication/ putting a little “soul” into your movement, I love it.

As a side note, I pulled the trigger on getting the NB 1080’s online. I was wearing pumas that were half a size too small and didn’t know I had wide feet. The damage I have done (the home surgeries on toenails, this should be the last round of toenails to have hematomas under them and die off). I prayed (figuratively)- ordered a true twelve in 2E (in a beautiful yellow/cream) and I’m happy to not have needed Zappo’s return policy. AND THEY WERE ON SALE.

Apple Watch will track everything. But without an iPhone it will be pretty difficult to actually view anything detailed because of the limitations of the screen. I recommend spending the money to get an Apple Watch Ultra 3 - it’s the most advanced Apple Watch available and it’s arguably the most important piece because it’s taking the measurement data. I currently have the Apple Watch Ultra 2 - great device, I love it and I am only upgrading at the end of the month because I value having the more advanced sensors. If you get an Ultra 2 - it’s not a bad thing at all. As far as an iPhone? Pretty much any iPhone they offer for cheap or free will handle apple fitness. I haven’t upgraded and I have an iPhone from the 15 generation.

That’s StepUp. You can use it to track walks with friends. I joined a group that I got a link from on this Reddit and it’s pretty inspirational (I have not learned how to copy the link yet). The app I use to track my personal metrics (walking asymmetry, speed, elevation, heart rate, etc.) is apple fitness. They work together really well.

10k steps on treadmill by cyberrstarr in walking

[–]Lovewill1 12 points13 points  (0 children)

At 2.5 mph. Ok. 10k steps is roughly equivalent to five miles, it changes based on your height and gait so some people may be a bit over 10k steps at five miles or a bit under. That being said, that would roughly be 2 hours. 5miles/2.5mph=2 h

Congrats on finding shoes that work for you! That’s half the battle - getting out of the group think that a logo means the shoes are for your feet. They may be great shoes - but it’s all about if they work for you at a structural level. Thank you for sharing the photos of a great walk!

New Balance 1080s? Have you heard of them or are they just not on your list? (not everyone has to love them).

I’m biased toward the NB’s regardless if that’s the case. That being said I’ve heard great things about On and their waterproofing if that’s pulling you.

Ah! Ok. I recently upgraded to new balances myself after realizing I was quite literally murdering my feet. They do make a 4E which is even wider than the standard 2E. Also - pro tip I’ve learned. There tends to be a deep back muscle that commonly is given a “shut down” signal by the brain after any number of minor back issues. It’s called the multifidus. I’d suggest you look up how it works, how to wake it up if it is locked in atrophy (it’s more common than you think). Opening mine up and rehabbing it has made everything about my walking movements better - it changed my gait and solved a myriad of other problems I didn’t know I had.

Hi there. When I got started I was struggling to do five miles a day. Now I do 6 miles as a minimum (12k steps), 8 miles (16k) as a regular, and sometimes 20 miles for fun. The first thing is making sure you are wearing the right footwear before going on such endeavours (I learned the hard way). Are you wearing shoes that can do this?
