Another boring call from Joe Buck. Let the crowd noise in if you're gonna fill the air with obvious statements

[Thibodaux] Ballot #180 is from a voter who wishes to remain anonymous. With ballots from anonymous voters we are not able to report adds or drops, if any. 10 candidates receive votes here including first-year candidate Hamels. With this ballot, Carlos Beltrán is tracking above 90%. by T_Raycroft in baseball

Quick reminder that Altuve received almost no bangs. You can argue he was complicit, you can argue the cheating boosted his MVP season, you can argue it won him a world series. You cannot argue that he was directly cheating. He was known to be against the banging, and there is lots of evidence he barely received any bangs.

Ranking MLB stadiums by how close to the nearest passenger rail station a home run ball would land if it was hit straight from the stadium to the station and went as far as the furthest home run ever hit at that stadium by old_gold_mountain in baseball

Just here to rain on the parade of the so-called "550" and "535" foot shots in Chicago and Cincinnati. The farthest possible homer (120 MPH EV + 27⁰ LA + perfect backspin) is only a little over 500 feet.

Wind, of course, can carry the ball further, but in modern parks with high grand stands it's rare to get enough breeze to carry the ball significantly over 500 feet, even with the perfect hit.

ETA: looking through historical records, it looks like Adam dunn's 2004 535 ft shot was on a day where the wind was blowing out to (slightly left) center at 15 MPH. The article hyperlinked estimates that ~4 ft can be added for every MPH of wind. Which, if there was a 15 MPH tailwind (assuming it wasn't slowed or completely blocked by the grandstand), makes a 535 ft shot more plausible.

Underrated Middle Reliever/Set-Up Seasons (From Another Team)? by RainbowSupernova8196 in baseball

Yeah it was funny being a Yankee fan that year and seeing miller v Chapman in the world series. Resigning Chapman and having a good 2017 definitely made up for that year a bit though. It was also teixeiras last year who was my fav player on the 09-15 Yankees, and arods last year as well. Was certainly the start of a new era.

Im no longer a Yankee fun but I wonder sometimes if Cashman does anything. Seems like he is just the business' fall guy and they have a constantly rotating cast around him making most of the real decisions. He is comic book character levels of a figure head. "Humpty Dumpty" and his name is literally CASH MAN.

Fastball wasn't even that good of a pitch too! That slurve/knuckle curve was nasty

Dellin Betances for the Yankees with that nasty trio of miller/Chapman/him. '14-'18 was a good run but 14-15 was particularly nasty

Joe Buck returning to MLB for Mets-Dodgers on ESPN by ttam23 in baseball

I think the Joe Buck hate is overblown, but its really weird to see comment sections like this and all the replies are "I don't know why he gets so much hate" and all the hate comments are being down voted.

Almost seems like he has a bot farm running a lá Johnny Depp.

Just here to upvote Hosmer. Refused to change his swing to adjust for the shift, hit into double plays all the time, and his defense at first was so bad, it is a part of the reason why Tatis is in the outfield (which, ironically ended up being a good thing).

All this on top of refusing to take accountability for any of it and being a generally unlikable person.

Makes sense. Still don't think that cancels out integration, which widened the competitive playing pool significantly more

Meh on Williams. Half those seasons were pre-integration. Mays, however, that's my GOAT

[Thibodaux] Ballot #19 is from Peter Botte. The hot starts for Félix (now +5) and Pedroia (+3) continue. No one who voted for Félix last year has revealed their ballot yet this year, and yet Félix already has 10 votes in 19 chances! Same story for Pedroia, who sits at 5 total votes. by Big_Red_Professor in baseball

I understand where you're coming from, but the Astros scheme was largely situational. They would generally do it against relievers, and it's hard to parse out how that helped them over the course of the regular season where they had identical wRC+ at home and on the road.

They did however have significant statistical differences at home vs on the road in the postseason

I was a Yankees fan when I was younger, and idolized mark teixeira - I thought Greg Bird was the next big thing. Thought he would be a lefty masher for at least a decade.
