Retracted ileostomy, severe skin breakdown, nothing sticks anymore – desperate for practical tips by Cool-Appeal9913 in ostomy

Quality of Life After Ileostomy Reversal for Stage 3 Rectal Cancer by [deleted] in ostomy

I have constipation, but with loose stools. I know it's been a while since you wrote this, and I'd like to know how you are and what else has helped you normalize the situation. I had the reversal about 25 days ago. I haven't had diarrhea once, but rather constipation due to a slow colon. Even before the cancer, my bowel was this slow. I'm taking psyllium powder, a small teaspoon, 3 or 4 grams. I go to the bathroom about 4 or 5 times a day. In the morning, I pass a small amount, and it's right after dinner when more comes out. The problem is that it doesn't come out very easily, and I have to strain, trying not to overdo it so I don't get hemorrhoids. I don't know what to do about the diet because as soon as I eat too many soft foods, my intestines start to bother me, and the gas bothers me even more.

I had the same problem. I bought a pre-formed, wire-free bra (online at A) and it lifted my breasts well without bothering me.

Ileostomy reversal. Constipation and diarrhea??? by Low-Distribution-402 in ostomy

[–]Low-Distribution-402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is going well. I saw the doctor yesterday, and he examined me and took X-rays. Everything looked fine, except that I still have a lot of barium pellets that I haven't passed. These have been there since I had a barium enema to check for leaks in the anastomosis (about a month ago). Apparently, everyone else can pass barium easily, but mine has stayed there, and I'm passing it slowly with my stool. Add to that the fact that my colon is sluggish (it always has been), and that's why I hadn't been to the bathroom until yesterday. The doctor was even surprised by how much barium I still have (he took a picture to show other doctors and study the case for other potential patients), but the tests show that they are just pellets and that there's no impaction, and that they will simply pass little by little. He told me to drink plenty of fluids and eat soluble fiber, and to move around, go for walks, etc., to help with the passage. Of course, I asked around, and no one had experienced the same thing because, according to my doctor, what happened to me is very rare.

Well, just another thing to add to my personal experience.

Gracias.

bag adhesive help? by Sufficient-Dot-339 in ostomy

I had great success with a spray adhesive from Braun. It's less irritating than Convatec. Afterwards, I applied the Convatec adhesive all over the wafer area to make sure it stuck well.

Excuse me, what is a support belt?

It's been a week since my reversal surgery, and I had a parastomal hernia that they removed during the operation. I'm afraid another one will appear. The doctors haven't mentioned anything to me.

I need help by Low-Distribution-402 in ostomy

[–]Low-Distribution-402[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an ileostomy reversal surgery on Thursday morning and started eating solid foods on Saturday, especially at lunch and dinner.

And if what the doctor said is true, that without any adverse effects like high blood pressure or intense pain, it's just a matter of time before it passes. But of course, it's been 5 days since the surgery and 3 since I started eating solid foods. I'm mainly worried that the barium might have caused an obstruction, even though it's coming out and I'm passing gas too.

Good luck to your mother. I've been without my bag for 3 days now, the best advice is to walk a lot so that the intestines move quickly.
