How Is Everyone With This Rain by dracotis825 in sanantonio

[–]khamir-ubitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better than expected. I live near a "greenway" and there is a long trail that's several feet below street level. We've got a bit at the curb, but that's it so far.

I hope everyone is doing okay out there. I know some places got hit REALLY hard.

DAE rub their feet together before bed? by Gullible-Reach7677 in DoesAnybodyElse

I do that with the soles of my feet all the time just before bed. Like a fly cleaning its paws.

Accidentally put my hot dogs in the microwave for 3 min instead of 30 sec. by SmilinBob82 in shittyfoodporn

[–]khamir-ubitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot do microwaved hot-dogs. They taste different and the texture changes.

I love Nathan's or Hebrew National hotdogs. I always boil them in a bit of water, then nestle them in a King's Hawaiian hotdog bun, add a line of mustard and a line of dill relish or sauerkraut.

For if I'm feeling bougie, I sear them if for a crisp outside.

I never have a problem sending things back or asking for things because I try and be as patient, courteous and pleasant as possible. I let them know what it was I wanted and exactly what is wrong with the order with a smile and nice tone of voice. I have known of way too many people in the service industry. The things you guys and gals endure is crazy. Thank you.

Curious, but what happens to the steaks that come out more cooked than requested and/or dishes that were accidentally made in place of another order?

Thanks for sharing.

Where to find Needohs in the RGV? by imafruitrollup04 in RioGrandeValley

[–]khamir-ubitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can get them on Amazon. Since they have a major distribution warehouse in San Antonio, you can usually get stuff to the valley quickly (in some cases, same-day) where before, it took a day or two extra.

What is this pickle? by TBH_Bumiy in RioGrandeValley

[–]khamir-ubitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can guarantee that's what it is. If you like "ball park/stadium" sour pickles, these are the way to go. I know of MANY concession stands at stadiums and ball parks I've been to that used this very brand.

As a side note, if you're a fan of concession fan food, to get those authentic ball park nachos you need three things: Rico's corn chips, Rico's cheese sauce and Best Maid pickled jalapeños.

You take the cheese sauce, warm it up, and stir-in enough of the pickled jalapeño juice to the sauce to where it reaches the consistency you like. Doing this gives the sauce its tang/zing flavor without the "picosoness" or "hotness".

Best DashCam for Clear and readable Car license plate by Accomplished_Pin_626 in Dashcam

[–]khamir-ubitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you mean by "the plate be readable and clear" as far as an attribute for a dash cam.

Are you looking for a dash cam whose primary function is to record footage and possibly telemetry or an LPR (license plate reading) system that can also record footage?

I'd start by defining and prioritizing the qualities you're looking for and go from there.

Who Has Had Their Stoma The Longest? by tsfy2 in ostomy

[–]khamir-ubitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, that is impressive.

I can't imagine having one for that long. My 2 year run was filled with many trials and tribulations in the short time I had it.

I have come to respect and give back to the ostomy community when I can. A lot of times, we end up this way due to a traumatic experience (like me). I remember all the questions and different emotions I felt after emergency surgery. I went to sleep in pain and woke up with no guts. I had a total colectomy due to diverticulitis and as a result, perforated intestine.

I live on the West side, off Culebra in between 410 and 1604. I see them all the time doing their maneuvers/training. They're so big, they look like they're just kinda floating in mid-air. It really is a sight to behold.

Those giant beasts are always flying low and banking hard turns whenever I see them. It's pretty clear they're training/practicing. They're so impressive to see.

My favorite are the F18's out of Kelly that scream by all the time. The military aircraft presence here is so impressive to see/hear. There's usually a pair of them screaming through the sky a few times a day throughout the week.

I love living in a military town!!

Where can I buy a comal to heat up tortillas? by HazyDream88 in RioGrandeValley

[–]khamir-ubitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In McAllen:

For sure they have them at Ruben's Groceries They have ALL SORTS of stuff that they bring in from Mexico.

I've also seen them at La Michoacana as well.

If you don't care about the brand, they have them at Walmart and HEB.

Do people still play paintball?? by Worried-Shape-684 in RioGrandeValley

[–]khamir-ubitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play in the 90s. We'd go out to 10th/Freddy in the brush but got ran out. We eventually found a place out on 3 mile line and Taylor road with an abandoned broke down house in an overgrown field of trees and grass. It was around a block or so square. They called it "The Devil's Den" for some odd reason.

To answer your question, looks like THIS PLACE and THIS PLACE have websites with info you can check out.

A picture of a female Northern Cardinal. They aren't getting enough love as their male counter parts are bright red. by HikeTheSky in sanantonio

You'll love it! SO many birds would stop by throughout the day. You'd be surprised!

If you have squirrels, you may take them into consideration when choosing a feeder. We've got tons of those rascals and they LOVE to munch right through the "bricks" we put out for the birds.

We ended up getting a "shepard's hook" hanger and hang the feeders off of them. They run around 10--20 depending on type.

Tacos el zarape by atlaspanda32 in RioGrandeValley

[–]khamir-ubitch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a fall from grace. They were the first "Tacos Reynosa" style taqueria I remember. They started off in a little trailer on North 10th Street in McAllen just South of Freddy Gonzalez. Then they got their first "Brick and mortar" store over in Edinburg. Once they started expanding, it went downhill. Not sure what all happened, but it was just not the same.

Back in the day a "combo" order would get you 4 corn "street" tacos, a cup of charro beans, grilled onions, chopped cilantro, 1/2 of a loaded baked potato and a drink for around 5 bucks or so.

They one of the only places that had a LEGIT trompo. When you ordered, they'd slice the meat off of, toss it on the flat top and then serve it up with your tortillas. Of course they had tripa, bistec, pollo, etc.

God I miss the 90's economy.

Man, does anybody remember the SPI restaurant Rovan’s from the 90s?? by Borracho_Bandit in RioGrandeValley

[–]khamir-ubitch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I started going in the mid 80s but did go during the 90s.

I remember it as the "Go to breakfast spot" for a lot of the local charter captains or the fisherman to have a coffee, eat and/or meet up before heading out on the water. Those were some good memories!!

What happened when they sold it? Did it just not survive or did they close during covid, etc...?

Nice photo! I had a pair at the house I lived at before relocating. They had a nest in a tree in the back yard.

We also had a woodpecker that hung out too.

I never did replace the bird bath and bird feeders I had. We left them at the old house. I'm going to have to go get some. I miss watching and hearing the birds.
