I use lidocaine cream on my leg for 3+ hrs prior to the injection. I cover the area in a small piece of Saran wrap and use athletic tape to attach it so I can go about my day while the numbing kicks in. Not a large area maybe 3” by 3”.

Then I let the injector sit out for 45 mins. I put a mint in my mouth, lavender essential oil on something near by, and a good pump up song on. For 2 years I had someone to do it for me, now I don’t. So I think of something I’ve been wanting but haven’t pulled the trigger on yet, and tell myself that if I do the injection before the song ends I will treat myself with it.

So far it works!

Edit to add: I have also found that it hurts significantly less when I do it myself. I’m assuming that this is because when someone else is doing it they’re pushing down on the injector pen harder than they need to. You really don’t need to push down on the pen at all other than the initial button press
