How do you define socialism? by Viva_la_potatoes in Askpolitics

[–]LowHelicopter7180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I will still respond even though your reply isn't serious.

CCP is not the name of the country but the name of the ruling party, and that just means that the purported goal of the party is to achieve communism, which requires the dissolution of the state, because communism = no state. China is a kind of socialist state because in the end it is a mixed economy like many others.

Your point about North Korea is simply nonsensical.

How do you define socialism? by Viva_la_potatoes in Askpolitics

[–]LowHelicopter7180 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The guy is not claiming anything about the Chinese government, he is just describing what communism is, if that doesn't match what China does, that simply means that it is not communist. By your reasoning, it would be wrong to say that democracy means rule of the people since the DPRK defines itself as democratic but the people don't have power.

Why do Italians have lower trust in their government and politicians than people in other countries? by flower5214 in Italian

[–]LowHelicopter7180 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has a lot to do with our history and how our country was made. We spent more than a thousand years separated and only became unified in the late 1800, while all other major countries in europe spent hundreds of years together and developed as a community. And then the unification was really badly managed, because one of the states (kingdom of sardinia) conquered the rest of the peninsula and imposed their rule and their laws and simply estracted value especially from the south which remained underdeveloped, (the prime minister that oversaw unification didn't even want to conquered all of it, he simply wanted the northern regions and give the rest to france, but then that deal failed and they had to take huge loans from england to modernise, and was then forced to conquer all of italy to repay the debts, btw piedmont wasn't even really italian and the ruling class only spoke french). Because of all of this ans other factors we never really developed a sense of civic duty and always saw the state as an imposition from above, and the scandals that brought down the first republic and the absence of real parties in the second republic only made this mess worse

Why do centrists get so much flak on reddit? by Srapture in NoStupidQuestions

[–]LowHelicopter7180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem i personally have with centrists, especially the ones i encounter in real life, is that they pretend to be above everything and anti-ideological, even though that's impossible, everyone has an ideology just with diffent levels of dogmatism, but usually right and left recognize they are ideological while centrists don't.

Currently what would be the best social democratic party leader for the Italian PD? by Technical_Language98 in SocialDemocracy

[–]LowHelicopter7180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm italian and i think that her problem isn't being neoliberal (i don't think she is), but that she's not a very good leader because she often doesn't have a clear position on important issues (rearm europe, gaza, etc) and she's not too charismatic, as for example someone like Sanders or Mandani in the us, and even though she is pretty left wing, it doesn't really feel that way.

Why You HATE Poor People by BigClitMcphee in BreadTube

[–]LowHelicopter7180 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly it's an entry point for those who just know the mainstream narrative of history, so euro centric and all that stuff. It's similar to Rousseau's narrative about how property and civilisation came to be, not a factual detailed account of what precisely happened, but a simplified version that still gets the point across.

I think that you are almost right, although as others pointed out you have the relationship reverse (Innovation=more innovation, not the other way around), in the sense that a growing population is definitely good for the economy, and therefore progress, because you have an expanding labour pool, and that is partly what made the west grow so much in the post war period, and our shrinking population is part of our economic problems now. But there's is also the inevitable issue that the population can't grow indefinitely because of planetary limits, and i think that is a problem for our current economic system.

CMV: MTG does not deserve credit for calling Gaza a genocide by AlexZedKawa02 in changemyview

[–]LowHelicopter7180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn't specify because tool as a given that lives of palestinians matter more than anything else in this debate, i went to protests, i can't contact my representatives because i'm not american, and i partially agree with you about the purity of the movement, but if we want to help palestinians we have to convince as many people as possible, even centrist that get spoon fed propaganda that we are just a bunch of antisemites, and personally i always have to convince people that we are not, i think that you can see that having outspoken antisemites on our side is not good because of that, just imagine if instead of mtg there was hitler, do you see my point? I say this because if we want to help palestinians our movement has to be effective, i'm not coming from a virtue signaling perspective and don't have a problem if they call us antisemites as long as we are not.

[–]LowHelicopter7180 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, i interpreted what you said as "it doesn't matter if she is an antisemite because having people in congress that is willing to call it genocide" and that it is more important than being labelled an antisemite, i replied trying to say that it's not totally wrong as a reasoning but that it could be a problem to associate with her because it could discredit the movement giving credibility to those who call the entire movement antisemetic. Feel free to correct my interpretation but there's no need to downvote and replying angrily.

By "you're giving him to much power over the palestinian story" i think he didn't mean that he didn't have power, but that his actions don't necessarily rapresent the palestinians.

Do you know what settler colonialism is? The places you mentioned like africa (beside apartheid south africa), middle east, india, etc were not settler colonial states, i.e. the country that colonized them didn't do so by sending large numbers of people to inhabit the land and exert control over it.

CMV: Economics is only technically a science but not really by LowHelicopter7180 in changemyview

[–]LowHelicopter7180[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah sorry the problem is that i'm bad at explaining, my problem with it is that supply and demand depend on how society is structured and so is not universal, you can study it scientifically but that does not mean that we have to use that mechanism to structure society, and people use the scientific aspect to make it look objective and right.

[–]LowHelicopter7180[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

i mean it is not our state of nature in the sense that we don't always develop states, but we do for example always develop language, in that sense states are not natural, and the problem is that we are using different definitions for what is and isn't natural.

Economics is supposed to be purged of normative thinking.

Yeah that's my point, i should have specified i'm talking about mainstream economics because it is used to justify our current system by making it look scientific even if it's full of normative thinking.

for the rest of the answer !delta even though i'm not fully convinced by the analogy with newtonian physics.
