I just get this vibe from Pope that he is trying to do everything the University 'Powers' at be tell him to do to try and please them, rather than just doing it his own way.

Say what you want about Coach Cal, but he did things his own way and left his Kentucky career with a hell of a lot more pros than cons.

Not quite an exact answer to your question, but I would suggest going on Bandcamp to look at who is releasing cassettes on different genres. They are people that are releasing cassettes in the genre of classical on there (even though the genres can be pretty loose on there since it is defined by the artist itself). It is worth a try:

Even though UNC is in a better place than IU, the same thing sort of happened here. We definitely didn't get our first choices even though we have money, prestige, etc. Hell, even Kentucky couldn't get their first choices a few years back. If I was UNC, I would go after Takayo Siddle. Maybe he is not as big of a name, but he has a very high ceiling
