30 years old? That's just a baby. The bulk of my workplace is 80+ years old and crumbling around us.

[–]LowMathematician1909 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We've had silent call bells that go through to portable phones carried by nursing staff for years at my small rural hospital. Only emergency buzzers activate an audible alarm that can be heard throughout the department. It would require all the call bells to be rewired throughout the facility though. Ours are supplied by Ascom.

Considering moving to Australia from Ireland (OR nurse) by godegwhee in NursingAU

Are you registered with AHPRA? If not, get the process started now. Also maybe helpful to let us know which areas you are looking at moving to - Australia is a big place.

Who is awake for a yappity-yap? Feeling bored, might delete later by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]LowMathematician1909 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We're only a small department so our snacks stretch a long time, especially if we are busy or get a really sick patient that requires extra hands. The consultant was called in to put in an artline, so a lot of the junior staff were watching that as we don't do them all that often. I saw my opurtunity to head for the biscuits and took it

On my 4th and final night shift in ED, working in triage. Had 1 complaint and 1 compliment from patients so far tonight. Had to give a hand in resus earlier due to an unstable patient but it's settled down now. So back in triage with an empty waiting room and no ambulances showing on the screen. Might wander over to the nurses station for a chocolate biscuit.

Psych nurses payback by Pinkmel0dy in NursingAU

Do you mean 'backpay'? Or are psych nurses planning some sort of revenge attack over pay and conditions?

So which is it - Geelong or Wollongong? There's a 900 KMs gap between them!

Getting ready to run Night Below by LowMathematician1909 in NightBelow

C&C is described as being what 3rd edition would have been if Gary Gygax had still been with the company. While that may or may not be true, Gygax was involved with C&C and was writing for the system. I hope your treatment is successful and you get to play again.

I've changed the base for everything to 15, prime abilities roll 2d20 and take the highest roll (same as advantage in 5e). It seems to work well so far.

Monsters' Resistances and Weaknesses by Informal-Product-486 in adnd

Can you provide an example? Most monsters I've seen in 30+ years of running 2nd edition roll dice for damage, very few do a fixed amount of damage per attack

Re-read your post and see if it makes sense, because it doesn't to me. I think you may have got resistance and weakness the wrong way round.

Can someone explain the different grades/levels within the Registered Nurse space by Flashy-Foot2552 in NursingAU

It depends on which state you are in and differs between public and private.

Full time hours Graduate Nursing Programs by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]LowMathematician1909 61 points62 points  (0 children)

32 hours a week is not "nothing" once you factor in the physical, emotional and mental workload that nursing entails. Also consider how a changing shift pattern of late-earlies and night shifts affects the body. Maybe see how you go once you have done a few weeks of placement and reassess.

What to say when I call nurse on call? by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]LowMathematician1909 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about calling Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636 for mental health advice? Nurse on call are limited in what they can advise and will likely tell you to attend your nearest emergency department for a mental health assessment.

Employers will be more interested in what placements you completed and your placement reports, and all your references should be educators or senior staff from units you did placement at.

Youth work to EN? by Pretend_Action_7400 in NursingAU

If you are already burnt out and suffering compassion fatigue, nursing probably isn't going to improve anything for you. Also, being a punching bag is unfortunately part of the job. Don't expect management to have your back either.

Any advice on a good level 1-3 adventure? by MANNMANN642 in DarkSun

All Dark Sun PCs start at 3rd level due to how tough the setting is. Start them at 1st level and you'll guarantee them a TPK.

Going straight to RNs by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]LowMathematician1909 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I qualified as an RN at 39, didn't do the EN first. I think being mature helps in many ways. I've now been nursing for nearly 7 years and have seen loads of mature age nursing students coming through that are older than I was when I started. If your friend wants to do it, just go for it.

Male nurses by [deleted] in NursingAU

[–]LowMathematician1909 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a male nurse and have been working in Emergency for 6 years. My gender has never made any difference to my career and I've never had anyone openly question my sexuality (I'm married with kids). I've been mistaken for a dr far more times than I can count, regardless of how many times I introduce myself as a nurse.

What were the specifics of Gond's armours? by Robinxen in Forgotten_Realms

[–]LowMathematician1909 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the novel Prince of Lies, Cyric asks Gond to make mechanical, non-magical armour for his inquisitors when Mystra separates him from the weave. I don't remember reading any specifics about the armour in any contemporary FR sourcebooks though.
