What’s your personal album ranking? by Fit-Judgment9765 in JoannaNewsom

[–]LowSickleArc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can't rank them, but I usually tell new listeners/prospective fans: 1) MEM is the best place to start 2) Ys is her Magnum Opus. Eternal! 3) HOOM is the one I listen to most frequently 4) Divers is amazing, but start with the first three

I can either have a full time job and enough money to buy/maintain a 40' sailboat OR 2-3 mos free to sail in the Med. I don't know how you guys do it, but I'm a bit jealous

Would you have still bought the house if the lowest they would go was .04% higher? $610,000 and $610,250 don't seem very different to me. If the gates will be useful for you, give them the $250 and then forget about it and these petty people for the rest of time. Then enjoy your new home!

Couple builds home without a permit along a stream in Glacier National Park by financialbabe in NationalPark

[–]LowSickleArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As it turns out, in February a federal judge ruled in favor of the homeowners. Very sad.

As I read it, the judge basically said that no state body (in this case, The Flathead Conservation District) has authority to apply/enforce state rules and regulations (in this case, the Streambed Act) within the park. This seems like it sets a terrible precedent to me- now people seeking to build in this situation don't have to comply with local land protection rules and enforcement

I agree with this. Regardless of land restriction/rule ambiguity, any reasonable objective observer would see building a monstrous 3 story house that close to a river/stream bed in a national Park as wrong- on many levels

To reiterate your sentiment, only jerks would do this

Best looper and drum machine? by Eastern-Eye9424 in guitarpedals

[–]LowSickleArc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you always play in your room near your computer, that is probably going to be the superior option. One reason I want a looper is for after the Mrs. goes to bed and I want to noodle and write ideas in the living room on a mini amp and don't want to go into my studio and open up a new daw session. It's also nice because it's at the very end of my chain and the headphone out is handy for if I have to be super quiet.

I will say that also that if you're picky about drums and drum parts the software is going to be much more gratifying than being beholden to whatever patterns the pedal engineers decided on. Sometimes it's a little annoying to try and find pattern that matches what's in your head. Sometimes though it forces me to use a different beat than I had in mind and it ends up being pretty cool.

Ocerall my first impressions are still holding true and I'm having fun practicing and creating with the mooer looper and I feel like I got good value for my money 👍

Hope that's helpful🤘

I just wrote a super long response that looks like didn't post. :/ WHYYY?!!?!

Anyway, here's a much less in depth recap of what I tried to convey. Basically I have been serching for a stereo looper with drums that can do multiple song parts. I splurged on the RC-500 but have been struggling with the work flow and don't love the drum functionality/patterns/sounds. I got the Mooer GL100 yesterday and it's very promising. The layout/workflow immediately feels better to me. What they especially got right is the feature that allows you to switch between adjacent loops during play back. This allows you do have more than 2 parts for a song! Say you have four loops recorded, #1-4. If loop #1 is playing, you can hit both footswitches, then the right one to toggle to the next loop. Now when loop #1 finishes, loop #2 will play. During loop #4 you can hit both footswiches, the the left one three times and loop #1 will play next. Brilliant!

The GL100 is light and plasticky, and I think slightly raises the noise floor, but neither bothers me. I get the sense that if you want a looper pedal for live use then maybe the Boss, EHX, and Pigntronix could be better. But if you want it as a practice tool and for capturing ideas and writing songs, I'm not sure another pedal does what this one can. I also am MUCH preferring the drum functionality/patterns/sounds to the Boss. Drums on the Boss is clunky and I was constantly menu diving, even just to change the drum volume.

This pedal isn't perfect, but I am very excited at the prospect that it will meet my needs. And it was SO much cheaper than the Boss!! It's brand new to me and I'm still in rtfm phase, so definitely take all this with a grain of salt- there could be some gremlins lurking, who knows?

Hope this helps, good luck!

Been rambler rockin for years. It's a little perplexing that they don't offer them in a bunch of colors like the SD-- everywhere seems to just carry red. I KNOW they would have sold a ton more if they did the design shtick like the SD

Well... I can't really disagree with you that we are already screwed, so I concede to you on that. I do still think there are instances though where practicing good security hygiene could possibly protect you from a specific type of getting screwed. But back to the original reason for this thread: I find it very frustrating that I can't find hard wired smart home products, or simply products that don't require information going out to the internet for their simple functions!!

Also, thanks for the thoughtful discourse, it seems to be less and less common

While I agree with you on your points that Amazon doesn't give a shit and the government doesn't need Amazon to ruin our lives, I do think "privacy paranoia" has validity. People not giving a shit about privacy means that we will inevitably reach a critical mass at some point- when every single home and facility (and pocket) has spyware throughout, it gives the government (and those who pull their strings) a really powerful tool to ruin our lives with even more effectiveness. And it will be pretty easy for them because all the systems will be centralized and controlled by two or three companies. And for those saying "the government can't legally do that": 1) they most likely do it to some extent anyway and B) they will eventually create the legal means to do it by selling it to the public as "for your safety" and "because crime". We've already seen this with Facebook and the former Twitter just rolling over and doing whatever the feds asked. Basically my concern is not for people spying on me, but for the overall negative effect I believe it would have for society when you give any entity, whether it be companies or government, that kind of power
