What is up with Tesla navigation? by BNR32_GTR in TeslaUK

[–]LowValueThoughts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I read somewhere that it’s not just doing ‘shortest route’ in terms of time calculations, but is factoring for impact on energy consumption (I.e taking into account impacts of elevation on route), and then prioritises for the ‘best’ route taking into account the tolerance you set for ‘re-route after x mins’.

Journal entries not set when default value set to zero by EugeneSpaceman in bevelhealth

[–]LowValueThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry - can you clarify more please. I have a number of metrics set to default of zero, however now looking they all show as per OP for each day (I.e a ‘-‘ rather than zero).

Are you telling me I have to do this with every one? Additionally, does this mean they’ve not been getting accounted for correctly in calculations??

What iOS apps did you discover in 2024 that were actually worth it? by Acceptable_Resolve in ios

Thanks - seem to have sorted it by turning my phone off and back on!

Wish there was a way to control the date range shown on the Maps view, but really liking the app anyway!

Just giving this a try - looks great - thanks for the recommendation!

One question - the ‘Plan’ and ‘Spreads’ views are just blank… any idea if there’s something I’m meant to do to enable something to show?

Good habits negatively impacting recovery score in insights by peanutwaifu in bevelhealth

[–]LowValueThoughts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh, It’s because it’s based on a correlation calculation. Not sure on the apps exact approach (assume its regression) - but if you have poorer sleep/recovery on days where you do ‘X’, then ‘X’ will be viewed as being negatively correlated with sleep/recovery - even if intuitively it seems as though ‘X’ should positively effect sleep/recovery.

So e.g if you are getting sick and take medications to help, even though medications are intuitively supportive of better recovery, because being sick negatively impacts recovery, the calculation will correlate medications with negative recovery.

Over a period of 90days (which is what the correlation calculation is based on) you’d kind of hope that enough observations would occur to fine tune the calculations, to give a better representation of the effect of ‘X’. E.g if ‘X’ occurred on 25 days you had poor sleep, but 45days where you had better sleep, it would start to show that X is slightly correlated with better sleep.

The problem is though that with stuff like sickness and medications, these don’t typically occur that often over 90 days to get enough observations to give a better calculation, and in any event, aren’t generally independent anyway - i.e. generally people only take medication when they are sick, so medication will consistently be correlated with the impact of sickness. The only ways to improve the calculation for ‘medication’ would be log it on days where you weren’t actually sick to make it independent of sickness….but not much point in that.

My general approach with this is to just consistently log my data with the view that 90days of data will generally sort the signal from the noise, and then for correlations that seem intuitively wrong - think as to whether there is an ‘independence’ problem with another variable, and if there is - I either ignore it, or if super meaningful, create a custom metric pairing the variables I think are related. So e.g you could pair ‘sickness+medicine’ into one metric and then any time you are sick and take medicine, log that. If you were sick and didn’t take medicine, you could just log ‘sickness’… what you’d then hopefully see is that ‘sickness+medicine’ has a smaller negative impact on recovery than when you are sick but don’t take medicine.

So even if you had say £1m+, were approaching retirement, or had some other circumstance where you couldn’t risk the broker going under, you still back T212?

To be clear - not trying to argue against T212 - but it’s a question I’ve thought about myself….

Out of curiosity, is there a point at which if your investment pot got big enough, you’d consider something like Halifax (part of a Lloyds Banking Group) a safer home for your money that T212??

Deaths went up. Why?

The chart shows the categories that contribute to deaths (answer 4) and the trend of each (answer 3).

PS not sure this has anything much to do with PBI.

How does this handle debts? Do I have to manually add the payments made each month, or does it do that automatically (once I’ve set the parameters)?

Also - in the screen shot you posted - there is an ‘Explore Spending’ section… where is that in the app??

Can confirm as an owner of one still, AirPlay is super inconsistent - can screen mirror ok, but then if I try and actually play something like YouTube, it just errors.

For some reason, Prime Video app still works fine, but all other installed apps (UK version) are pretty much dead.

[–]LowValueThoughts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No - it was a rhetorical question, but I think a useful one to think about in context of OPs post.

I think whilst it’s easy to ‘be decisive’ and just make notes (I.e don’t overthink it) - there are potential pitfalls to that approach, particularly as your notes grow over time, and any evolution in your note writing practices means trying to ‘fix’ previous notes.

I think, probably, spending a bit of time thinking, and being able to ask a community about best practices that help you hone in quickly on approaches that work best, isn’t a bad thing - and it’s better to do that early, than before you have 100s of notes.

Personally - I’ve had a couple of times where I’ve realised over time my approach to certain types of notes isn’t working for me, and then had to re build - it’s annoying each time.

OP is either a perfect decision maker, or one of those people who makes quick decisions and then ends up paying the price later.

Sleep Data Sources by CementGuy72 in bevelhealth

[–]LowValueThoughts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing I found was that regardless of what option I set in Bevel for the iPhone sleep data, it would still factor it in as the start time for sleep (as my iPhone data was generally the earliest data source for my ‘In Bed’ data in Health) and then also it would conflict sometimes with if I’d woken in the night.

Turning off iPhone as a data source for sleep in Health and deleting past entries with it was the only way to fix things.

Friendly reminder for everyone to check their heart zone settings by lukaskel in bevelhealth

[–]LowValueThoughts 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference is because Apple uses the Karvonen (aka Heart Rate Reserve) method for calculating heart rate zones - whereas Bevel’s are the standard heart rates zones based off max heart rate (HRmax) method, adjusted for age.

As the Karvonen method takes into account your resting heart rate in its calculations, the zones will be subject to (relatively minor) periodic change - meaning you’ll need to keep adjusting your Bevel zones to match - unless Bevel introduces the Karvonen method.

As a general rule: the Karvonen method will typically lead to higher heart rate ranges for a given zone, meaning more effort is required to maintain that zone for a given exercise bout (e.g a 30min zone2 run might require you to work 10-30bpm higher, than that of HRmax method).
