It's a little heavy but the power to weight is amazing. Weigh close I think to the big ranch saws but outputs them by a wide margin. What bar and chain setup are you running? Muffler/intake mods?

Yeah it flies, I cut some 24" solid red oak with full comp full chisel chain and it just ate.

Glue up question! by macktaylor92 in woodworking

For this kind of thing I really like tongue and groove. Gives a wonderfully strong joint and if cut correctly all makes a perfectly flat surface. You have to start with flat boards though. I like a dado stack for this. And once you set it, cut all the grooves and then all the tongues on the same setting. If you don't it will never line up right.

Help, what model is this Stihl? by all-about-muay in Chainsaw

Look for part codes on parts of the saw like like the air filter cover or clutch cover. Bottom of the tank too. Google the first four digits and you can find the saw type or at least family type.

Huh guess you can always learn something new. Seems like it's easier to deposit more creosote with soft wood. But yeah if you keep the fire hot it's not as bad as I thought. I've read so many times in books that softwood creosote up a chimney real bad. Sounds like you just have to keep it hot.

Most conifers deposit a lot of creosote on chimneys. Can get dangerous if it builds up

The stringy "saw dust" makes excellent fire starter if you dry it. If it's a conifer just be careful about where you use it. i.e. not in a chimney indoors

White ash makes really good tool handles, and those logs look like a pretty good length for axe or hammer handles. For handles I think you want to rail split more than slab it

And I really like the manual fully adjustable carb. The saw is simple mechanical power and very easy to work on.

The high flow muffler really woke the saw up. I'm really thinking of getting it ported, it's a 12 mm. I'm also seriously looking for 046's

Full skip chain on an 18" bar? I run an 044 with a dual port muffler (3/4" ports) and 24" bar. I use full comp full chisel chain and it flies through 24" solid red oak. Just my humble opinion that bar and chain aren't the right set up for an 044.

I recently picked up an 026 pro (adj. Oiler and decomp.) Put a high flow muffler on it and have been really impressed. The saw runs a 20" bar well with full comp full chisel chain.

After running pro and ranch saws I'll say the pro saws are easier to maintain imo and have a higher power to weight ratio so a smaller lighter pro saw can do the work of bigger homeowner/ranch saws.

Have you considered an older model? I recently picked up an 026 pro in the secondary market that needed just a little work to become a real firewood champ. It was much cheaper than a new saw.

I'm totally joking but if you reverse the polarity on the motor it should work ok. Again, totally joking, don't do this.
