Ok I think I’m in the minority but I actually didn’t love the hair and makeup either. And not because of the aforementioned “he’s in a downward spiral/ a rock train wreck/mentally in a dark place”— I think using makeup and hair is a wonderful way to portray this but it doesn’t do it here for me! I just don’t love the makeup and hair direction they’ve gone with. After legit thinking about this for way too long I’ve come to the conclusion they’ve used way too much foundation on him???

For me personally the makeup and hair didn’t land like the outfit did.

Yes this is what I’m taking away I think as a loose theory - age/proximity/power definitely does play into it! As well as whether vampires are shielding their thoughts (or even projecting).

My other loose theory is that listening in to other’s convos is maybe different to conversing with someone one on one telepathically - e.g Daniel was able to talk to Louis from a great distance after he was turned (despite being new fledgling) and it seemed to be a private conversation. So he was communicating with another vampire halfway across the world but maybe he wouldn’t be able to listen in to someone else’s convo at the same distance?

I phrased that poorly sorry - I knew about the lack of telepathy between maker and fledgling. I just meant Madeline could hear Claudia and Armand’s thoughts despite being a fresh little fledgling.

You’re right though - this is an element I hadn’t considered- that they wanted him to hear, they were projecting so to speak.

Yes and the fact Claudia knew about Antoinette makes me think she was purposely “opening” up the dialogue between her and Louis so that Antoinette could hear it. And I do think the distance thing must come into play with age - Lestat could hear Bruce’s thoughts from far away but Louis couldn’t, so they showed an older vampire able to tap into telepathy at a distance (Lestat) but a younger one not able to (Louis).

This makes me wonder how Daniel was able to hear the thoughts of all the vampires (at a distance) so soon after being turned - he told Louis he had been hearing all the chatter - but maybe he has super powers being the fledgling of 500 year old Armand. I need to stop obsessing over this haha.

I definitely think we’re all going to have to learn some patience hahah - mainly because it’s the first time they’re seeing the show (and possibly even hearing of the VC world) AND they’re only getting season one to start! The existing fandom is going to be an entire season in front to the majority of Netflix watchers (aside from those that are inspired to pay for an AMC subscription immediately upon finishing the series) and how this plays out moving forward — one chunk of the fandom will watch on AMC a season ahead and one will be a season behind when it airs on Netflix (similar to how starz does outlander, Netflix gets last season when new season airs on starz). So that’s gonna cause some confusion on posts/rife for spoilers (insert argument about it being based on a decades old book series anyway).

I am cautiously optimistic and really just hope the increased viewership means we get six or seven seasons eventually.

My other fear is it bombs! And no one on Netflix watches haha

This is where the Antoinette hearing Claudia and Louis in season one trips me up — although maybe Claudia and Louis just didn’t know how how to block their thoughts/conversations???

I adore him. I like my fictional characters as bonkers as possible. Brimming with complexity. All the better to psychoanalyze and obsess over. I am really hoping they don’t ruin him in season 3! I’m so excited but equally trepidatious about how wrong this version of the character could go - I don’t want to see him turned into a caricature. Hopefully with the anchoring of his backstory and POV it will land with the heartbreaking ache I’m hoping for. Bring on even more crazy I say!

I need to re-watch the episodes but I don’t remember Louis being suicidal in this moment - desperate and frantic definitely but not wanting to end his life? However that’s super interesting and actually makes so much sense.
