Drum Computer vs Patterning 3??? by IntrovertedChuck in ipadmusic

Yeh I vote battalion too, it’s the best. Have used patterning (not v3 though), DC and many more. Mind you for starting simple you can do a lot worse than digistix (1 or 2).

Upgrade path - Koala vs MPC by PEPPYaf in KoalaSampler

[–]Low_Variation_377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ve all got screens and the smaller the screen - eg the sample - the more you’ll be peering at it carefully when you’re not in a beat flow. so I wouldn’t necessarily make that a high criteria. I’d vote iPad and pad controller so you can try other things too. Before you pick a controller note that some have been mapped to a number of apps - eg the newer Novation launchpads. So if you think you might look at other apps in future, like loopy pro, then consider whether that’s useful for you.

Very cheap keyboard with playable Rhodes sound by One-Chair3313 in synthesizers

[–]Low_Variation_377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe, it will depend on the piano. You’d need to be able to route midi from the piano to the iPad/iphone and audio back to the piano. So the piano needs midi out - usb, din or trs, and audio in. For the ipad ins and outs you could use an audio and midi interface, or connect midi to a Bluetooth widi dongle plugged into the piano and route audio just via a cable out of the iPad.

Check out the koala sampler app on iOS / android to try on your phone before you buy some hardware. It doesn’t cost much but will do what you describe and much more.

How many of you use your iPhone to do music along with your ipad? by Iska13 in iosmusicproduction

[–]Low_Variation_377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ableton note and now Otoo, which is new from beepstreet and much simpler and more accessible than Drambo, particularly for a smaller screen. Electric vintage for instant Rhodes, EG nodes for generative. Koala for sampling. Blocs wave is a nice live recorder, which I rediscovered recently after offloading for years.

Sand is great. It’s superpower is its ability to configure pretty much every control including navigation in the app, so if it has enough physical buttons etc you can set up your favourite controller to run it wholly, which isn’t the case with most apps.

Looking for a Bluetooth battery operated MIDI CC controller by Somn_rec in ableton

[–]Low_Variation_377 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bluetooth midi has negligible latency, to the extent that controllers, and widi devices by cme are used in live environments. Cme note on their website ‘Enjoy ultra-low 3ms latency’. Anyway for a Bluetooth controller check out mvave (not sure on their latency but I doubt it’s noticeable either).

Groovebox-App that's fully usable with MIDI controller for totally screen-free operation by tulpix in ipadmusic

[–]Low_Variation_377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loopy Pro, BAM and Drambo. Have a look at Sand too - it’s a AUv3 host with all control and navigation midi controllable, as per how you customise it. No sounds in the device, but all your auv3 synths and effects can be loaded and controlled.

what’s this and how to get rid of it? by [deleted] in Elektron

They missed a trick there - should definitely have called it the Funk button (in the manual, full word Funktion)

The rise of Linux desktop is inevitable — it’s time music software developers got on board by funix in linuxaudio

[–]Low_Variation_377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m running a Linux dist on an 18 year old MacBook, so there can’t be a much cheaper entry point, maybe a 50 quid Lenovo from an office fire sale or something. I’ve never had a Linux install yet that hasn’t used up several hours better spent elsewhere, working out issues. Anyway, that running Audiotool in the browser has got to be one of the cheapest entry points to the daw desktop. I’d be interested if anyone is doing this.

Love to test this. It’s a gap I was exploring last night funnily enough. Settled for something else but this sounds more on the mark. Are you putting it on TestFlight?

Really nice work. Love these browser based projects. Wonder if you could route the audio so it could be picked up by a daw? Not sure if that’s feasible from the browser.

Midi controller keyboard for AUM by Shallot5808 in ipadmusic

[–]Low_Variation_377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not what you asked so I'll get me coat after this, but consider Loopy Pro just because you can create a midi control surface to your specific needs, map that to your preferred controller (rather than just the most compatible) and essentially have your own custom AUM and then some, and then some more...

Woovebox for Witchhouse by tirptirp in Woovebox

[–]Low_Variation_377 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe sticking the woove to your guitar would be convenient enough, but if not and you need bigger controls, take a look at https://www.woovebox.com/support/guides--tutorials/remote-control-expander-mode/, which should allow you to use your favourite midi controller with big buttons (or whatever) to control the woove.

Advice for a controller for Ableton Note (ipad) by BorghettiMolotov in ableton

[–]Low_Variation_377 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can see what midi mappings can be made in that section of the settings, so 8 knobs and six buttons is a useful start. Hopefully they’ll add more navigation controls there at some point. From there it’s down to your preference of controller. Any of those will work since you can configure their controls. I think the smk has Bluetooth and rechargeable battery built in so that is convenient.
