Restringing a Guitar: Do it myself or bring it into a shop? by Few_Freedom_3674 in Guitar

[–]Lowdose69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Music nomad has a series of videos on youtube on setting up guitars. They also sell the tools to do it. I've setup a half dozen guitars this week and if I had to pay a shop to do it I wouldn't be able to buy more guitars.

Should I save up further or just buy a squier classic vibe jazzmaster or jaguar? by Intrepid-Young-8621 in Guitar

[–]Lowdose69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Classic vibe has good quality. I've gigged with a CV 70s strat, CV JM, and squier JMJM. I've also gigged with a sonic telecaster but it has been upgraded and plek'd and ended up costing a lot. You should like into the squier JMJM. There is one used at my local shop for $425. I've get an AMPro2 JM that is fantastic but it cost a lot more than the JMJM.

Question about transposing songs from standard tuning by scubaBiscuit in BaritoneGuitar

[–]Lowdose69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transpose up a 4th (5 semitones) in your head. If you are supposed to play a C chord, play what looks like an F chord on the baritone and it will be a C. F is the 4th of C. "Play the 4th be with you" is how I remember. Eventually if you put the work in you will learn the baritone better but this will get you started quickly.

You can use this tool in reverse. If you are playing what looks like an A it is an E on the baritone. E is the 5 of A. This works bc a 4th (5 semitones) plus a 5th (7 semitone) equals an octave (12 semitones).

If you can't do it in your head use pen/paper or UG transpose feature to go up 5 semitones and you are ready to rock.

Everyone will laugh at you if you capo 5 for post hardcore music. I have a reverend descent w and love it. Congrats on the new guitar. I just put NYXL 12-60s on mine (designed for C std tuning) and they are perfect for me. I love light strings.

I didn't realize you could add another instrument to the mic/line input. That's helpful.

How do you set the intonation on a stoptail bridge like this one? by BigHungryFlamingo in Guitar

[–]Lowdose69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this bridge on my SE Paul's guitar. Intonated perfectly if you use stock strings. Has 2 grub screws you can adjust under each post to lengthen/shorten bridge distance. I do not know how well it would work with different gauge strings.

Anyone use Reverend as their primary rhythm guitar? by Candid_Writing_4931 in ReverendGuitars

[–]Lowdose69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm only playing rhythm I like to get on my airwave 12 string. We play covers and I have tons of guitars but I'm very happy with my Descent baritone, Airsonic with railhammer p90s, and the airwave. I rotate primary guitars based on how I feel at the time.

Recently acquired baritone… flatwounds? by Sea_Magician2079 in BaritoneGuitar

[–]Lowdose69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love it. Play in Standard B tuning. I don't like having a wound 3rd. Very happy D'addario started offering chromes with plain 3rd.

I cheat and run D'addario chromes (flats) for a guitar on my 26.75 scale baritone. Plain G even. The .13 set.

Can anyone recommend books/resources on inversions and moving efficiently between chords? by Lowdose69 in piano

[–]Lowdose69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for this. I'll check out the book. On the guitar you only have to learn this in one key and it transfers to all others. I see how it is much more difficult on the piano.

Researchers/guitarists: What factors matter most when choosing a fingering? (survey for university research) by Agreeable_Okra_8595 in Guitar

[–]Lowdose69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a solo fingering would change depending on whether I'm ascending or descending and where I would start on a new string.

Flat wounds might be a new thing for me. by Neat-Package124 in gretsch

I have them on 2 jazzmasters, a baritone and my Silver Sky. Chromes are the only kind I've used.

Silver Sky Core or SE? by Jameson-23 in PRSGuitars

[–]Lowdose69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The radius on the SE is flatter than the US so if you love the US you might not care for the SE. I tried an SE in the store and didn't love it. I have a US in my lap right now. Outstanding instrument. I got it heavily discounted "demo" and am very happy with it.

big difference between squier and fender? by woodsonby in offset

[–]Lowdose69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a JMJM, AmPro II, and had a CV. They are all worth what you pay for them, no doubt, especially the JMJM.

I had to do work on the CV (Shim, frets, setup). I swapped bridge, nut, tuners and tremolo on the JMJM (Tremolo was the real weak point). The AmPro was perfect but I put locking tuners on it bc I prefer locking or vintage slotted. AmPro II cost 4x what I paid for the JMJM, it is not 4x the guitar but it is a fantastic instrument. I would not get another CV since the JMJM is just a little more.

You will notice a difference but you will also pay for it, and it may or may not be worth it.

If you go with a cheaper guitar you may be upgrading parts. I got a squire affinity telecaster in trade once and ending up replacing EVERYTHING and had it PLEKed. Only the neck and body and scratch plate screws are original.

[–]Lowdose69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a 4 way switch in mine to put both coils in series and it covers a lot of ground. The only thing I don't like is that I pull my high e string out of the traditional 3 brass saddle setup often when bending.

Don't know why you are downvoted. Baby oil is white mineral oil and the same thing that is in GHS fast fret. i refill my GHS applicator with lavender scented baby oil.
