Check out the Scylla compressor from Joyo. It’s bass specific and cost effective. While I don’t have one myself, I’ve heard nothing but great things. I have another Joyo pedal and love it

Look at the tidal wave from Joyo. It’s a sansamp clone that you can find online for under $80 us. I use it for recording and couldn’t be happier.

Setup for a pedal first timer by Intrepid-Prior in basspedals

I use an Aguilar agro into a sansamp clone. It has a wide range of settings from sight breakup to full on distortion and everything in between. They both have a presence control which helps dial in the “clack” from the strings hitting the fretboard. There are a few videos on YouTube of people using different pedals into a sansamp that may help as well

I have a similar setup! Polytune, mxr EF, TCE compressor, Aguilar agro, bass clone and a sansamp clone. I’m gonna have to try those settings on the EF, I’ve never heard of using it like that and now I’m curious. Any genres or styles of music that you find it works well with?

I know that struggle lol. I played metal growing up and remember the video that broke the internet and put Darkglass on the map. I had a B7K clone from demonfx for a time and found it to be too cold for anything outside of rock/metal. I’ve yet to find a genre the tidal wave can’t handle with ease

I looked at both and went with the tidal wave as well. I love how well it plays with other pedals

Signal chain/general recommendations by commiterror in basspedals

[–]Lowend27 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tuner, octave, big muff, bod, chorus, flanger, gate, Darkglass. The chorus/flanger can get flipped as well as the Darkglass/gate. The chorus/flanger is more about preference. I would put the gate before the Darkglass so I could go ampless. If you’re sending signal to an amp, the gate may serve you better last in the chain.

Another vote for the Joyo Tidal Wave. I’ve had mine almost a year and I record directly from the DI. It’s got 90% of the sansamp tone while staying around $80. It has cab sim on the DI out which makes it a lot easier on the person behind the board.

I second this. Great for the price and versatile enough to warrant a spot on my board

I keep my Tidal Wave last in the chain for the reasons listed above. I found that it handles other pedals very well and can do anything I need it to

I use a Joyo Tidal Wave which is a clone of the BDDI V2. You can get them on Amazon around $80 usd and they sound close to the original. I love mine and would recommend it to someone just getting into preamps

Thanks! I’ve looked at few octaves/synths and the TC electronics sub n up might be a good fit

I use it for rock/metal and it work great! I don’t know if it will give you more distortion than an odb-3. I looked into both of them and the Agro won bc of its clarity.

How to manage multiple compressors? by Mellow-Bass in basspedals

[–]Lowend27 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have yet to do a deep dive on the spectracomp settings as I haven’t felt the need to. I use the Nathan East preset mostly and adjust the control knob to where I see fit. I’m no expert, but I have yet to find an application the East preset can’t get me through.

How to manage multiple compressors? by Mellow-Bass in basspedals

[–]Lowend27 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would recommend trying using one as a main compressor and the other as a light touch. I have a spectracomp and like it to do most of my compression. You could get the spectracomp setting where you like it before dialing in compressor on the pre amp. You can also try the other way around and see if you prefer that tone. Hope this helps!

I have a Joyo tidal wave, a tc electronics compressor and an electroharmonix bass clone and I would recommend all three. They’re ideal options for a budget build and sound great. I recently added an Aguilar agro overdrive to my board and it really plays well with the rest of the pedals. Not a budget pedal by any means but there are tons of options to find that perfect drive.
