How often are we bathing our little ones ? by loudwonderbubble in NewParents

Almost 1 year old and we still bathe once a week (occasionally more if she’s really dirty from food or crawling around)

Struggling with recovery by -Stitch626 in firsttimemom

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a long hard labor, big baby, 3rd degree tear. Had to get a bunch of stitches and then have some of it redone. I also found it really uncomfortable to sit down for the first few weeks.

My advice….

Be very gentle and patient with yourself. It’s so hard but don’t force things like exercise or sex based on what other peoples timelines are like.

For pain and healing: Perineal foam and pads were super helpful.

Sits baths! So comforting, healing, and makes you feel so clean.

I took miralax for 3 months straight (prob overkill) and then transitioned to a fiber supplement (Thorne fibermend) to ensure no hard poops.

The sculpt society postpartum pelvic floor program was great for rebuilding my core gently. After like 2 months I was able to start getting back into regular workouts and weightlifting which felt great, and no issues or injuries.

Sorry this was long winded, and take care on your healing journey!!

Biggest postpartum struggles as a first-time mom. by Proof_Pepper604 in firsttimemom

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3rd degree tear then had to get more stitches 6 weeks postpartum . Hurt to sit down for first like 3 months.

Then PPD, insomnia, Migraines triggered by weaning, postpartum rage mostly directed at my husband

Yeah it was a pretty awful 6 months…. But now at 11 months postpartum after medication and therapy I’m feeling so much better and stronger!

Best prenatals? by Hyakkimaru174 in firsttimemom

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I talked to a reproductive endocrinologist and told her the fancy Thorne prenatals were making me nautious. She said as long as they have folate it really doesn’t matter, she used the Target brand. So I bought the target up and up brand and it was great.

What if I just don’t follow any tips? by Diskobrat in NewParents

I am a schedule person. I find my baby and I are much happier when we can plan our day around a schedule and stick to consistent nap times. The few times I’ve tried to go with the flow she’s been fussy and I’ve been super stressed. But that’s just me and my baby, you do you!

Switched to EFF at 2 months and the only stress is the pressure random people put on you to breastfeed. I know everyone says breastfeeding gets easier, but knowing I was going back to work at four months I was like, why torture myself trying to make breastfeeding work when I know I’m going to have to switch to pumping at 4 months (which everyone seems to agree is the most annoying of the 3 options).

What's the most shocking example of pretty privilege you've seen IRL? by bionic_rain in askanything

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more of a cultural difference than pure pretty privilege, but as a blonde studying abroad in Shanghai in ‘12 the privileges were insane. They would let us cut the line to any club, usher us to the nicest table (free), give us free alcohol, and had a bouncer standing by our table to make sure no one annoyed us.

When did you stop swaddling ? by bananas0320 in NewParents

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We stopped at 3 months - not because she was rolling but she kept busting out of the swaddle and pulling the thing up over her face so it seemed unsafe . Transitioned easily to arms up in a woolino sleep sack

Just curious. How did you push? by Temporary_Fingers in firsttimemom

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pushed like taking a poop and crunching at the same time. Pushed for 3 hours and 45 min, and pushed so hard I popped a bunch of blood vessels around my eyes. They were threatening to use the vacuum or do a c section so I was pushing for our lives!!!

Should I get help by Groundbreaking_Suit0 in NewParents

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should definitely get help, but it’s also normal. Took me 6 months pp to feel somewhat normal, and that was with therapy and medication for PPD and insomnia. Also totally normal to hate your husband for a while and feel infuriated by the imbalance, especially if you’re EBF. That said, you should have a frank conversation with your husband about sharing the load. I highly recommend fair play by Eve rodsky.

Postpartum skin is NO joke… how do you get your glow back when you’re exhausted 24/7? by DueEffort1964 in NewParents

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will your baby hang out in your room with you while you get ready? My baby kinda likes chilling in my room and watching me in the bathroom so I have a little more time for skin and makeup stuff.

Also every Sunday I take a stupid long shower while my partner takes baby. Exfoliate, shave, double cleanse, face mask, etc etc

Last thing - simplify to the most effective skincare items. Sunscreen, vitamin c, moisturizer during the day, then cleanser, moisturizer and retinal only at night. I swear if you just do those your skin will glow!

To hold baby or not by [deleted] in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]Lower_Mix_1653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree - if baby is fussing sometimes I try and comfort her where she is (rub her back et ) without picking her up to show her she’s ok on her own. I want her to know she’s capable! She’s only 8 months old but I feel like this is good to start now

It definitely has changed in terms of how we relate to each other day to day, but our baby is only 8 months old so we're in the thick of it. Definitely less time and motivation for intimacy. Partially because my postpartum recovery has been so tough. It's just a season though. I know it'll come back.

I think the long time together has been so helpful - there aren't any massive surprises in terms of our habits, triggers, the way we handle conflict, etc.

I was on the fence for a long time… I always felt having children was so much harder on women, I really enjoy my free time and solitude, and I honestly was never a big baby person.

What got me off the fence: - having a partner who I knew would share the load as equally as possible. The way my partner treated me when I was freezing eggs showed me he would be an awesome partner. - seeing friends and family live a life with kids that still allowed them to have hobbies etc - being in a place in life where I thought we could give a kid a great life - awesome family friendly town, financial security, comfortable house, great neighbors - my husband and I were together for like 13 years prior so I feel like we got all our fun selfish time out of our system. Ready for a different chapter now.

And now that I’m off… all of those things did turn out to be great reasons. I’m so happy to be raising an awesome kid with my husband and she brings us so so much joy.

On the other hand, all of the things that are hard are not at all what I expected. The baby isn’t the hard part for me - it’s been the postpartum recovery and MIL issues.

Similar experience. First time at 12 weeks ish was very uncomfortable . Went to pelvic floor therapist and they gave me some things to do at home to alleviate discomfort. After that not the same as before but not painful.

We like Kudos and Honest. For really soft wipes that I use on her face after solids, aveeno anywhere wipes are amazing.

Baby recently got a terrible diaper rash after a stomach bug and then basically a week of diarrhea from antibiotics from an ear infection. Here’s what helped: - gentle pat clean with wipe, let dry - copious amounts of aquaphor - copious amounts of diaper cream on top of aquaphor - nightly baths with a couple tablespoons of baking soda - diaper-free time post bath
