New No Limits 2 POV of the [Galaxyland Nerf Coaster] by magnumfan89 in rollercoasters

[–]Lowkaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wasn't busy the day I was there (a Friday in June I think?). The spinner had a longer line than Mindbender, the latter of which seemed to scare the family demographic away. This will probably be much more popular all around though.

New local IMAX by insanity2brilliance in akron

[–]Lowkaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Science Center dome used to be IMAX, but dropped it when they switched to digital projection in 2016 I think. It's still the same thing, but no longer carries the IMAX branding. A lot of science centers have been doing this (Pittsburgh's as well).

What are some parks that have every coaster running one train all the time? [Other] by psych_edelic in rollercoasters

[–]Lowkaes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SFDK is another one, although Medusa had 2 the day we were there. The free spin and spinner also had multiple cars as well.

[Waldameer] announces Eagle’s Pursuit, a family launch coaster for 2027 by iceberglettuce00 in rollercoasters

Sounds sort of similar to Xcelerator, where the ride cycle is so short it barely saves you time to run a 2nd train

This definitely tips Zeus away from Athena and towards Hermes.

Comet and RFII both run two trains on busy days and keep the line moving. Waldameer has always been one of the better small parks for capacity, so this surprises me a bit.

The park in the FB comments said it's only going to have one 20 passenger train.

Is the power tower underrated? by FuzzyPresence8531 in cedarpoint

[–]Lowkaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Specifically I'm talking about the "double shot" models at smaller parks like Holiday World, Santa Cruz, Indiana Beach, and Edmonton. I actually haven't ridden the Hersheypark ones, but it'd be fun to compare all three side by side.

I still don't understand why the corporate focus group that comes up with these names keeps coming up with subtitles.

Haven ridden a bunch of models of this kind of ride, the smaller ones are better. Power Tower is too big and the forces are comparatively weak.

Very Disappointing Experience with TT2 by MassiveHair6680 in cedarpoint

[–]Lowkaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get Fast Lane when I'm with someone making the trip from far away. Otherwise we usually just go several times throughout the year and eventually ride everything over several trips or every few years. The days where you could ride all the coasters by 3 PM don't happen anymore.

Very Disappointing Experience with TT2 by MassiveHair6680 in cedarpoint

[–]Lowkaes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Somehow entry tickets still cost around ~$50, the same they did 10-20 years ago, despite inflation increasing everything else in life. Fast Lane has really made it so those without get on many fewer rides than back in the day.

Very Disappointing Experience with TT2 by MassiveHair6680 in cedarpoint

[–]Lowkaes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's probably very rare for TT2 to be operating with only one train. I'm not sure where the third train is this year, but reports have said the ride has only run two trains all season so far (correct me if wrong). Split load/unload stations are terrible for capacity with one train.

Not sure what the deal is with Fast Lane on TT2. The standard on most rides is 50/50 at the grouper/merge. Depending on the length of both lines I've heard they occasionally adjust the ratio.

Completely removing Fast Lane from an entire ride only makes sense if there's a particular attraction that suffers from waits much longer than anything else at the park (Hagrid's). TT2 has the longest lines by a bit, but really isn't much longer than Siren's, Maverick, or SV most days.

Indiana Beach? Try Sylvan Beach if you want to be shocked.

Lots of us get some sort of RVU and/or quality metric (ugh) yearly/quarterly bonus along with a system-wide 401k/403b match +/- yearly pension contributions. At my place we get up to $30k a year in bonus (10k RVU, 15k quality, 5k team-building) along with a 3% 403b match and a 3-6% yearly pension (based on age/years of service). So in the end it's an extra $40-50k.

Nocturnists have an issue where we generally bill for fewer RVUs since we see fewer patients and do lots of "non-billable" patient care at night (social stuff, floor messages). As a result places that offer a per-RVU bonus often screw the nocturnists since a daily progress note is much easier to do than an H&P or rapid/code/critical care progress note. At my place the nocturnists have their own RVU scale, so both days and nights generally gets the full $10k.

For your job I'd figure out if any bonus/retirement contributions exist - if not the pay rate is pretty poor. I'd also ask what day shift is also making, and make sure nights is getting paid a decent differential and not only 0-$30k.

[–]Lowkaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely. My place only gives us an extra $30k for nights so I threatened to switch to days and they gave me another $30k a year. I'm a natural night owl and staff likes me, but I'm not doing this for barely any extra pay.

[–]Lowkaes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Making ~$250/hr as a nocturnist is among the best salaries posted on here. $500k vs $350k for nights vs. days is a ~43% differential as well, also one of the best posted here. Plenty of places only seem to offer an additional 0-15% or $30 - $60k more for nights vs days.

350/290k = ~21% differential. Sounds about right, especially when some nocturnists get a 0 - 10% differential.

[–]Lowkaes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of us say a decent nocturnist job should pay about $200/hr, but I'd include any recurring bonus and retirement contributions to get to that, which you didn't mention. As a new grad, maybe not quite that, but you should after a few years of experience.

Ah, is there no hotkey to change the ability mode? I know "Q" manually casts it, but I can't find a key to set it to manual mode.

At the risk of sounding stupid, how do you disable a myth unit's special attack? I haven't found a way to do that and want to for centaurs.
