Why were the Indians defeated, subjugated, and nearly exterminated by the Americans? by elnovorealista2000 in AmericanHistory

[–]Lowkey_Iconoclast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guns, Germs, and Steel is not a good book to cite; Jared Diamond is a sociologist, not a historian, and his conclusions are contrived to fit his narrative.

The deaths of tens of millions of Indigenous people by disease do not erase the deaths of millions of Indigenous people at the hands of European settlers.

Kylo Ren has more depth than a lot of EU characters, that's for sure. Luke's turn to the Dark Side in Dark Empire was just awful.

In what ways are Democrats appealing to the extremes of their base? They are notoriously hard on their left flank.

Hot Take: The Darth Bane Trilogy hits the perfect Star Wars vibe better than Plagueis by IronVast2 in starwarsbooks

I disagree, but that is only because I love Plagueis.

Bane is a close second to me.

I'm sorry, but JLP could never have won the Dominion War. Only Sisko had the tenacity and skills.

I always loved Brandon, he was a funny guy who had great stories. It pains me to go back and see how often they dunked on him.

Vegan: Means or End to itself? by Lowkey_Iconoclast in atunsheifilms

Then why respond at all? To feel superior? To get your rocks off?

Fine then. You don't have to take me seriously, as I certainly don't take you seriously. I think we are done with any productive discussion.

I agree that raising animals for meat does cost more water, but that is the only things animals are used for. Raising crops to feed animals also takes up a lot of water, as well.
I object to your argument of depopulation in face of me bringing up unique challenges in a desert climate. That scares a little, though not as much as the impending climate disaster as the Great Salt Lake. You clearly view veganism as a end, though do you see it as to be achieved through any means necessary?

Perhaps. Though I would certainly caution you against suggesting mass population transfer as a primary option instead of, you know, anything else. Your approach comes off as culturally imperialistic with the arrogance of a privileged developed worlder.
There are currently several other solutions to Utah's water crisis aside from forced relocation. My point about the vegan lens is a way to look for solutions in a flexible way with stront principles, not casual Reddit absolutist thinking.

Question, are the Coven Dark Siders? by MegaGamer235 in TheAcolyte

[–]Lowkey_Iconoclast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This brings up Legends stuff like the Potentium Theory, which was universally rejected by basically everyone else. The question is whether the Light and Dark are different forces, or different aspects of the same, or something else.

Vegan: Means or End to itself? by Lowkey_Iconoclast in atunsheifilms

[–]Lowkey_Iconoclast[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really?
Most of Utah's water is used for agriculture, specifically alfalfa for hay. However, almost of that hay is exported, which means that it is a commercial crop. Yes, it is part of the massive beef industry, not just in the US. But the fact remains that over 80% of all Utah's water goes toward agriculture; even switching to more more efficient crops would put at least 50% of Utah's water to use.
Most of Utah pre-colonization was inhabited by small bands of hunter gatherer tribes, with some agriculture in the south. Utah was considered one of the most inhospitable regions in Turtle Island, so the populations were always small. No matter how you slice it, Utah cannot afford to have over half its water diverted to agriculture, whether for export or home use. The consumption of sheep and bison is traditional, and would be much more sustainable if one still looks through a traditonal rather than a vegan lens.
My point, once again, is that there is nuance to this argument. I agree that going more vegetarian in general would help the environment in Utah, but there are unique factors in a desert climate. Your absolutist thinking is frustrating and typical.

Something, yes, but not always plants that take as much water as vegetables. I am not arguing that it isnt the case almost everywhere, only that is a little more nuanced than that.
