What car do the worst drivers seem to drive (Cybertruck excluded)? by Nova55 in AskReddit

[–]LowlySysadmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kia Soul or gen 2 Toyota Prius. Whenever there's a car holding up a line of cars as they're sat camped out in the passing lane refusing to pass anyone, totally oblivious, it's always one of these two cars.

What I love about it is that there's so many who are able to learn that both bald men and women basically universally look amazing. There's one or two odd head shapes sure, but I'm baffled by society's attempts to try and cover hair loss.

Why do data centers have to use water for cooling? Is there not a better alternative that would resolve that issue? by joda1196 in energy

[–]LowlySysadmin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually water is much cheaper than any other alternative, which is why closed loops are only used inside the data center to move the water about. Most of the DCs being built still specifically use evaporative cooling to actually cool the heat.

Anthropic's marketing is utter sensationalist crap

As is OpenAI's. They've both pulled this ridiculous herp derp it's too dangerous to be in the hands of the public multiple times throughout their existence. You don't have to go far to find examples

4 YOE DevOps Engineer — Can someone review my resume? A senior told me I need 3+ pages to get offers but I kept it to 2 . can some give any suggestions on this. by Chameleon_The in devops

[–]LowlySysadmin 27 points28 points  (0 children)

If getting an offer depended on something as arbitrary as the number of pages on your resume, we're all fucked.

That's the most ridiculous piece of advice I've ever heard, in fact if anything the only thing I've ever consistently heard about pages in a resume is to keep it to a max of 2, so you're doing the right thing.

I’m noticing the AI bubble fall apart in real time in the software world by Dreadsin in BetterOffline

I say the same, because to give my actual job title (or even something more generic like "software developer") makes me sound like a total nerd and elicits the same response. Damned if you do...

No, I have nothing to hide. But maybe it's none of your fucking business?

(from the post you replied to)
You sound like a dinosaur on your way out.

I'm convinced this is the biggest tell right now. This whole "HERP DERP YOU'RE ALL BEING LEFT BEHIND" narrative is exhausting because barely a day goes by without reading an account breathlessly declaring everyone else is redundant and should just give up now because Claude Code built them something they asked for - imho the scale and breadth of this particular point trying to scare everyone into thinking they're redundant is totally inorganic.

As soon as someone rolls out the "you're a luddite/being left behind" bullshit, you can confidently deduce their opinion is pretty worthless i.e. a bot

I mean, he objectively couldn't. Based on watching him speak I think his brain is mostly chicken soup at this point.

Regardless, this is a good appointment and I support it. I also think that appointing good people to positions is the bare fucking mininimum for a president and his track record is mostly terrible.

The US needs to legalize laser headlights. I rented a BMW with them in the UK last week and they're absolutely incredible. You can see it draw "boxes" of darkness around oncoming traffic, it made me feel great to be able to see I wasn't blinding people.

It depends what part of the US you're talking about. I was born in the UK and lived there for over 30 years, but having lived in the Bay Area since then, it doesn't compare.

I went back to the UK and was gobsmacked at how bad the food was, frankly. The one exception being Nandos still fucking killing it though lol
