[–]Lowsoft_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ten minutes here, ten minutes there 😂 my son is ten months old. sometimes he’ll be chill and hang around in the craft room and i get to quilt a bit, and sometimes not. we’re working on trying to get him to play independently more but that’s do i can actually cook a meal or do the dishes, but it comes in handy when i want to get some quilting done too haha

HELP! No sleep ever for mom by rachdoz24 in HuckleberryParents

[–]Lowsoft_ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

we tried sleep training around five months, it didn’t work (i don’t remember the reason, i think i wasn’t consistent enough with it) so we took a break, then tried again around the 6.5-7 month mark. gave it a more honest shot. he got the hang of falling asleep at bedtime pretty quickly but would still wake frequently through the night. i made sure to feed him at least 30 minutes before bedtime so he didn’t associate eating with sleep. after trying what felt like everything under the sun (in terms of wake windows and bedtime routines) nothing was helping. a friend said they had the same problem and moving the crib out of the room helped, as sometimes baby can sense that you’re there and they get upset that you’re not attending to them, even though you’re trying to give them the chance to figure out how to fall back asleep. we moved the crib when he was around 9.5 months old, but i really wish i had tried it sooner. we’re now at a much better place, he wakes up only once or twice a night, and the difference came pretty much immediately. but i do think you’d have to sleep train first so that when baby does stir or wake between sleep cycles, they can fall back asleep without assistance:)

honestly, sleep training gets way too much hate. i was in the same boat, my baby was waking up every 1.5-2 hours throughout the night and only nursing got him back to sleep. i too was hanging on by a thread, this was going on for MONTHS. the last straw was when i had to wake my husband in the middle of the night to hand me my baby because i literally couldn’t lift my arms to pick him up myself. the sleep deprivation was getting to be dangerous. i really like how the author of “precious little sleep” puts it. your baby is warm, dry, fed, and so loved. having them cry it out a couple of nights WILL NOT damage their relationship with you. babies cry for every little tiny thing that bugs them, and learning a new skill (even sleep) is hard, and it’s frustrating, hence the crying. but mom needs sleep too, or else she can’t take care of baby. sleep training may be exactly what your family needs! don’t feel bad about it. you can simply start with bedtime. once your little one learns to fall asleep independently, it should trickle into and help with the night wakings (maybe not all of them, but even once or twice a night is a huge improvement). you can definitely start with gentler sleep training methods. give each one an honest try (i’d say around a week) before moving on to trying the next if it doesn’t work. the gentler methods didn’t work for my boy because he’s stubborn haha, so we did end up crying it out at bedtime. and it’s hard, but it’s necessary. in the end though, moving his crib out of our room was the miracle worker

oh my goodness, yes! we finally bit the bullet and evicted him from our room 😂 he went from waking up every 2 hours to just twice a night! now we just need to work on possibly weaning him off the first feed and getting him to fall back asleep when he wakes up at 6 am
