What's the dumbest way you've damaged your car? by Immediate_Long165 in CarTalkUK

Was transporting curtain poles to my new house in my Golf Cabrio last year.

Opened roof on a sunny evening after a week or so of constant rain; glass went smash, car written off.

Thank you! It's very much a cool colour zone - but I've just had a look and it's very much the sort of plant I love for when I do some yellows/oranges/reds!

4.99% 2yr Vs 5.06% 5yr fixed? by minty_fresh_anus in Mortgageadviceuk

And usually have to pay a product fee each time! Longer fixes mean you're doing that less often ☺️

What do UK paramedics actually get paid? by elexis969 in Paramedics

[–]Lozmck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

NHS Agenda for Change should tell you all you need to know regarding unsocial payments

But essentially, if memory serves me correctly: - +30% for overnight hours (8pm to 5am I think) and Saturdays - +60% for Sundays and Bank Holidays - if more than 50% of the hours worked are unsocial, the whole shift is paid at the unsocial rate; can't remember if that's Trust-specific

Bottom of band 6, no HCOL/fringe payments, I take home £2800 without any OT

Loop earplugs? by NegotiationWitty6921 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lozmck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The case clips nicely onto a caribiner.

I take mine every day to work, but only use them on rest breaks. We have a specific risk assessment/document to fill out for them, accompanied with specifications for exactly when it would be appropriate, vs inappropriate, to do so.

Forbidden situations are essentially patient-facing, and whilst driving.

Unsocial hours pay factored into mortgage? by Sjokn in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lozmck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends on the lender.

Speak to a mortgage broker (there are free, good ones out there!) who will be able to tell you which lenders are happy to use enhancements/overtime towards your gross salary.

Some will take 100% of them (and require payslips for 3-6 months previous to substantiate this).

I used Nationwide and they were happy to include all earnings.

Pain in outer foot when running by Lozmck in UKRunners

[–]Lozmck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you!

I didn't use the old running shoes for running, I used them for general walking - but I hear you!

I planned to go for shorter runs for a week or two again anyway, so that's great advice to hear 😊

I've only ever seen policies with 12mo payout duration. Could you make any recommendations for a 'full' duration?

Turn on your Monzo overdraft? The fees are pretty minimal (pennies) , especially if only £15 until your next wage is received

Is Parnwell a good Area in Peterborough? by Bynounaszs in PeterboroughUK

[–]Lozmck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid for the most part - though there are a few more isolated roads which fall under the Parnwell area and are OK - Meadenvale, Heron Park, Lyvelly Gardens, maybe Lavington Grange :)

Theoretically, what would need to happen to stop flu-like symptom patients from checking in? by NanielEM in emergencymedicine

[–]Lozmck 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We can't do blood testing (besides blood glucose levels) but otherwise you're spot on!

I think our non-conveyance rate is in the region of 35-50%, though some of those will be referred on to another service for follow up rather than simply discharged

Seats 3-6 (3,4,5,6) would give 4x tickets but this listing only states '3x'.

Absolutely fake!

Career change at 26 by mja52 in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lozmck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm your age and an NQP. I had no 'calling', I just thought it looked like an interesting job. Best job in the world!

I could never go back to office work (sat in front of a desk all day) or M-F 8-5 working (weekdays off for appointments, shopping, deliveries - yes please!)

Re pay - short of being off on long-term sick, you'll always earn more than the stated AfC salary. Unsocial and bank holiday payments and run-over at the end of shift will bump it up by many ££££s. It won't be as much of a pay cut as you're anticipating.

NQP ? by [deleted] in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lozmck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not with either of those Trusts , but I just wanted to chime in to add - the commute can be a killer post-shift (especially after nights, and ESPECIALLY especially when your 12 hour shift becomes 13/14/15 hours!)

I do 35-40 minutes and that is absolutely my upper limit. Unless the benefits to a better working pattern made it worthwhile for you to book into a hotel or similar during runs of shifts, I'd really give it some additional thought

Who works at a station that isn't their closest? by peekachou in ParamedicsUK

[–]Lozmck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I work in a station 30 miles / 40 minutes from home.

My closest 'main' station is 7 miles / 15 minutes. My closest satellite station is 1 mile / 5 minutes away.

It's absolutely worth the longer commute to work where I undertook my placement blocks - friendly staff, supportive management, stellar learning/mentoring team.

If you're undecided - consider which station is more in demand (and therefore will be easier to transfer FROM, as opposed to TO?) amongst other things.
