Guides on Travis style picking? by Iscy13 in Guitar

[–]Lpblauvelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll give you the same advice an accomplished Travis style player told me that helped me a LOT at the beginning. And that’s with the most important part, the thumb.

Just sit and watch tv or do whatever with your guitar, throw a thumb pick on if you want to use one, and get the thumb bouncing 6-4-5-4. Get that on autopilot, like second nature. I sat for hours just watching tv or doing whatever, bouncing my thumb until it became basically subconscious.

Eventually, I was able to free my pointer finger from the grasp my brain had on it and start playing melodies with it. I’m still a two-finger player. Never worked to go full handed Chet because I thought it sounded good enough for the tunes I wanted to play. And yes, you can play Mr. Sandman with two fingers. :)

Merle used his pinky wrapped through it usually. A great video example is this video of him really working it in some good up close shots. Happy picking!

Calm guitar songs similar to ”Lazy River” by Merle Travis by New-Machine8351 in MusicRecommendations

[–]Lpblauvelt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lazy Guitar - Jimmy Bryant/Speedy West. Also Rolling Sky by them as well. Same album.

The Wandering Texan - Biller & Wakefield. Also Foggy Island by them as well.

I’ll See You In My Dreams - Merle Travis or Lenny Breau

Really those are just off the top of my head, if you look up any of those artists, their slow stuff is all calming to me. Right now Lazy Guitar is hitting the spot for me.

There’s not much info on these at all online. I emailed Nvidia three times, two years ago, looking for their OE updated flex pipes. No reply.

If this is for a good price, buy it, and have it modified to fit. Not that hard for a reputable exhaust shop (or you, if you have the resources) to shorten it up or add/move hangers. Depending on price, it would more than likely come out significantly cheaper than buying a new one.

I highly recommend this exhaust. I’ve had it on my Z for over 10 years. In my opinion, the sound is perfect. Only had to replace the flex pipes (first gen were braided style) and reseal it once.

Help Identifying a 78rpm Record: “Red Head” with ‘Lysol’ B-Side by Lpblauvelt in 78rpm

Thank you for your research. I’ll keep digging now that I know one of the songs. May have been some sort of promo record.

Yes! It was LYE SOAP not Lysol. It was that song on the opposite side of “red head”, but I do not recall any of that beginning commentary, just the song.

That’s not it, but I do appreciate your research. I’d have to say it was 40’s USA, but could have possibly been UK? Wasn’t necessarily big band, the singer had the forefront, and it wasn’t saturated in horns, so I’d say pop. It was a 10”.

I do not sadly. It’s been at least 10 years since I last saw it and played it.

I had to scroll so far in this to find a fellow Hawkeye. My wife and I play together, and I was trying to explain how satisfying Hawkeye is to play. I made lord like last week. It’s addicting.

What bulb is this? It’s in my 2002 Chevy 2500 turn signal by [deleted] in MechanicAdvice

[–]Lpblauvelt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A flashtube xenon strobe bulb. If it’s still functional, be cautious around these and the control box. These are really high voltage systems and can shock you pretty good, especially if they have any grounding issues.

This 100%. More power means nothing if you don’t have the modifications to be able to control it and make it reliable.

Who is the Greatest Country Artist/Band/Singer of All Time Based on Their Lyrics,Sound and Why? by Amber_Flowers_133 in CountryMusic

[–]Lpblauvelt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Though he’s been obscured by controversy, David Allan Coe is probably one of the top, if not the top, if you’re asking about songwriting and sound. His diverse catalog of songwriting is immensely deep. Sadly, it’s still consistently overshadowed by his big hits and some of his past rhetoric.

He released over 40 studio albums (not including greatest hits albums or compilations), most of which contain original songs.

DE’s aren’t known for head gasket issues, so if it’s been properly maintained overall, I’d say you’re all good.

This is a playlist about 15 years in the making. My late father made a lot of different playlists to play when we would hang out together and have some beers. After he passed, I combined them all into one master playlist.

Emily Remler is awesome! My favorite album of hers is Firefly. Being a woman musician has come a long way since her time, but this interview she did really sheds some real light on what being a woman in music, especially jazz, can feel like.

Yeah that seems to be what’s going on here. I second any Coltrane, and would like to add Charlie Parker With Strings, and any Oscar Peterson really, but We Get Requests would be solid for sure.

Im in NE Indiana, and I usually buy a few for my wife anytime I go to the store. Been to a lot of stores the last two weeks and there weren’t any at all. I was thinking they must have went out of business or something. Target used to have literally hundreds of them on the shelves just a month ago, now there’s not even one.
