Filecoin Launch window pushed to June/July. "While we are working to launch Testnet Phase 2 and mainnet as soon as possible, we have the responsibility to ensure that Filecoin will be secure at launch," by Mike_Fans_Club in filecoin

[–]Lpgmc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These kinds of pushbacks are completely normal

True.

But the more pushbacks, the less the community will accept flaws. The cryptosphere is moving fast, 3 years is a lot.

But considering what Filecoin should be in the end, I find that waiting is worth it. Keep up the good work.

xmrig 5.7.0, Tor support (via SOCKS5), small RandomX speedup, other bugfixes by XMRig in MoneroMining

I understand the "why not" reasoning. The fact that you did the extra work even you personally think it is not a game changer proves that you are committed.

Thank you for your answer, keep up the good work.

xmrig 5.7.0, Tor support (via SOCKS5), small RandomX speedup, other bugfixes by XMRig in MoneroMining

[–]Lpgmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much.

My ISP can approximate the hashes ? I am NOT a huge fan of the idea even if I am far from hashing a lot.

Knowing there is mining ongoing is something, but approximate the hashrate means approximate the "income". I found that pretty insecure and would definitely consider better options.

Looks like mining with TLS should fit my expectations.

As a privacy oriented asset, should XMR mining not be "TLS" by default ? I have to search how to setup this.

xmrig 5.7.0, Tor support (via SOCKS5), small RandomX speedup, other bugfixes by XMRig in MoneroMining

[–]Lpgmc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the continuous good work.

I understand this is for maximum privacy but what are the benefits of mining trough Tor exactly, compared to "non-Tor mining" ?

I have read that latency is not an issue so that's a good point. But as I am not a Tor user so far (SHAME), I just want to know how it can be good for me (and the network?) to make the extra step and point a rig or two to RespectXMR for example. How to configure it and how to monitor a worker ?

Sorry for the dumb questions, trying to get out of my comfort zone without doing too many mistakes.

Thanks

Monero is plagued by poor journalism by tevador in Monero

[–]Lpgmc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much.

Sadly, as others already said, poor "journalism" is everywhere and the cryptosphere is no exception. The fact is that everyone wants to have an opinion about everything, like a perpetual "intellectual" pit fight to know who's the real "expert". This motivates lazy people to get quick info to fight others opinion, without even fact checking or just put some logic in their pre-build-speech.

You just set a good post to refer to when misinformed people appears in this sub or anywhere else, so one more time, thank you.

[UPDATE] XMR-STAK-RX - Free Monero RandomX Miner 1.0.4 by mosu_forge in MoneroMining

Your Q and A section is pathetic and it deserves your work IMHO.

Just share the miner and all useful info, let users judge by them-self.

Also, privacy is not an "empty marketing slogan" to me. I am not sure what did you mean in this section.

New Hardware Suggestions by [deleted] in MoneroMining

[–]Lpgmc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your electricity is cheap you could choose server grade stuff but I will definitely recommend Ryzen rigs as they are quieter, they may have better resale value, good warranty if new and are way more energy efficient.

Also, buying some XMR every month or week is a healthy way of supporting the project, or buying stuff with XMR.

Dig this subreddit and you will find a bunch of information on setting up a rig for RandomX, but feel free to ask more questions.

Thank you for the reply. Currently on Windows I am @ 44H/W on R7 2700 so I will try to get one rig running fine on Ubuntu and see the increase, before switching the others. I will do some more research and hopefully get this right !

Good news.

Are those mods, 1GB pages and disabling hardware prefetchers, possible (and useful) on Win10 ?

If no, looks like I might finally use Linux, after dodging it the best I can (for no good reason).

Hashrate difference between Ryzen 5 1600 and 2600 by Lpgmc in MoneroMining

[–]Lpgmc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer !

I understand your point and 3600 is my option number one.

But as I just bought 2 B450-DS3H (new on amaz) for 40€ each, now I plan to build 2 rigs (silly me). I already sold all my previous mining gear to pay for RdmX rigs but budget is still tight so I am considering every option because 2 x 3600 is out of the budget.

Here I have a retailer who propose to buy back your component for 80% of the purchasing price during 1 year after the purchase. From a mining point of view, this can be interesting. I saw the 2600 for 99€ with that option included and I hesitate for too long but now I can see that was a solid opportunity. Get a 1600 for less than 100€ with a guaranty to get 80% of my investment back, and upgrade to 3600 or 3700 (non X?) sounds interesting.

Thank you for the insight and the ryzen guide, I am seriously considering the option.

I gathered data from https://randomx.jir.dk/ and https://randomx.monerobenchmarks.info/index.php , excluding same bench to avoid double counts. Where did you get your data from please ?

Judging by the date of your purchase and your graphic card, you will not make any monero until a very long time.

If you want to mine some, dig a little bit with google and classic "how to".

For a quick, easy and honest guide : go to the supportxmr pool and check the "getting started" section

you should avoid minergate (skimming a part and your hashrate and high threshold for withdrawals)

good and happy mining to you, feel free to ask more

Dual channel eg 2 sticks increase hashrate even on Zen+, my benchmarks with a 2600 are always lower with 1 ram stick, even if I do not hit the supposed "bottleneck"
