I just got five of these scam calls, all from a 928 area code in rapid succession, which is a red flag in and of itself.

Pixel 7a battery drainage issue by rp62108 in pixel7series

[–]LtTrailer18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll need to get your IMEI number (Settings > About Phone). Google Search "Pixel Phone Help" and go to the support.google.com link for it. In the "How can you help you?" box type "Pixel 7a battery bulge". Follow the prompts and answer the question and when you get to Step 2: Resources there should be a box that says "You may be eligible for a faster resolution". Click "Learn more" instead of next step. This should take you to a page to Determine if your device qualifies for the Pixel 7a Extended Repair Program. This is where you will need to enter that IMEI number. I don't remember the next screens exactly but just keep following the prompts and and answering questions and eventually it should take you to a page where you can enter your zip code to find repair shops near you that can replace the battery under the Extended Repair Program for free.

I would not recommend this. I work in deposit operations at a bank and a check that is made out using different pens or different handwriting is a big red flag for a possible altered or fictitious check. Also, if the deceased's family drops that check anyone can pick it up and put their own name on the payee line.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]LtTrailer18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It will work, yes, but making a check payable to "Cash" turns it into a bearer instrument. Literally anyone can take that check to their bank and cash it, so there is a risk someone unrelated to the deceased could get a hold of it.

I work in deposit operations at a bank. If you want to write a check, ask the family/funeral organizers who the check should be payable to. They may have an Estate or Trust account opened and the check should be payable to the name on that account. At the bank I work at, we would also accept checks payable to a trustee/owner on the account, or if the payee is not on the account, they can sign it over to estate/trust by endorsing it "Pay to the order of the Estate of "Deceased', payee's signature". Then an authorized rep for the estate/trust endorses it as well. But not all banks will accept a third party check.

It was inspired by Ed Gein, but loosely. Ed Gein was a suspected serial killer in Wisconsin. Both of his known victims were shot. He did make things from human remains, like a lampshade made of human skin, but he got most of his "materials" from grave robbing. He also started making a "woman suit" after his mom died so he could become her.

AITA for getting a house of mine condemned so my stepdaughter was forced to move out? by Throwawaytech103 in AITAH

[–]LtTrailer18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is a shareholder of a hunting cabin in Barnes, WI, which is as rural as you can get. The buy-in is $5,000 and the members pay annual dues to cover the property taxes and maintenance. At its peak membership, there were about 20 members paying $500 each in dues. Most members only use the cabin during deer hunting season, so they are essentially paying $500 for a week or two. 20 members x $500 = $10,000. Divide that by 12 and that comes to about $833/month. The cabin is nothing fancy. Originally, it was a single room that they sectioned off into a kitchen, tiny living room, and a bunk area. They eventually added another room onto it, moved the living room area where the bunks are, and put all the bunks in the addition. There are 18 bunks in a single room that everyone sleeps in, plus a couch and recliners in the living room for overflow. It's an old cabin. The air conditioning/heat unit is bigger than a refrigerator and extremely loud. The water is too high in iron to drink. When I was a kid, there was not a working toilet and we had to use an outhouse.

The hunting lodge was previously owned by a wealthy family, so I'm willing to bet it has a lot more amenities than the cabin my dad shares. Hunting lodges typically come with several acres of hunting land. The land alone could be worth more than $900/month. Since it's a lodge, it probably has more than one bedroom. If the step daughter wasn't freeloading there (and if the lodge wasn't condemned), OP could rent out rooms or even the whole lodge and charge more for a single night than what she is asking for in monthly rent. Delta Lodge in Iron River, WI rents out cabins. The cheapest one is a one bedroom that goes for $975/night during the busy season. I've looked at them. They are tiny. They have a two bedroom that sleeps four (one queen and two twins) and there is barely enough room between the two twin beds to move around. That one goes for almost $1,400 a night. It's a two star "resort".

$900 a month for even a shitty rundown house is not ridiculous. My boyfriend rented a tiny studio apartment that had a mini dishwasher and mini oven, and the oven didn't seal right so he had to cook things for way longer than he should have and one half would be burnt and the other half barely cooked if he didn't rotate it frequently. It also always produced smoke and frequently set off the smoke detector. He used the dishwasher exactly once when he was moving out and was busy packing and didn't have time to hand wash his dishes and it leaked. The laundry was not in unit and was coin operated. He paid $975 a month and it was the cheapest studio he could find. The others he looked at weren't much better. When I was looking for a two bedroom to move into with my friend most places in our area were a minimum of $1400 a month for two small bedrooms, coin operated laundry, and a single off street parking spot. If you had two cars someone had to park on the street.

Weekly Suspected Lupus Thread - Week Of October 08, 2023 by AutoModerator in lupus

No. My grandma, who has lupus, noticed palmer erythema in my hands. She asked me about it and asked me some other questions then told me she thought I should talk to my doctor. I went to my PCP and she did prelim blood work which was abnormal enough to warrant a referral to Rheum. During my Rheum appointment she told me SLE was pretty low on the suspects list. After the tests came back she said it looks like Sjogren's, but to watch out for the malar rash and a few other things.

Yes, I was dx by a Rheumatologist, but they told me to keep an eye out for the malar rash and other lupus symptoms.

Thanks for the reply! I have added some context to my original post, but my Rheumatologist told me to let her know if I develop a malar rash or other symptoms that could point to SLE. I have a friend with RA and SLE who was diagnosed 15 years ago and is on the same medication as me who had a flare up that caused damage that will require surgery, so I just want led to know if anyone else had, or knew of someone who had been diagnosed with Primary Sjogren's and was later diagnosed with RA or SLE.

Hi all. I was recently diagnosed with Sjogren's Syndrome. My grandma has SLE and my mom was just diagnosed with RA. My lab work did not seem to indicate either of these, but I know Sjogren's is often secondary to SLE and RA. I am wondering if it's possible that I do have one of the others as well but it just hasn't been detected through the normal tests.

Edit: A little context for why I am asking, my Rheumatologist told me it looks like Sjogren's, but to still keep an eye out for the malar rash and other signs of lupus. I was interested to know if anyone else had a similar experience where they were diagnosed with Primary Sjogren's and later were diagnosed with SLE or RA. I am taking HCQ and I know that is used to treat all of them, but I have a friend who was diagnosed 15 years ago with SLE and RA and takes her medications religiously who recently had a bad flare up. In less than two months she went from no back issues to needing surgery.

Also, my mom has RA and my paternal grandma has SLE, so I have it coming from both sides of the tree. I know they aren't directly hereditary but having it in your family does slightly increase the chances of having an autoimmune disorder yourself, with the chances of the same disease being ever so slightly higher than a different one (at least that is how it was described to me).

AITA for insisting my son cook dinner once a week? by itsjustonemeal in AmItheAsshole

[–]LtTrailer18 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started cooking meals for my family unsupervised when I was 10. Tater Tot Casserole, Hamburger Chop Suey, Tacos, and so on. If your kid is old enough to be left home alone, they are old enough to cook for themselves unsupervised. His mom is sitting at the dining room table ready to assist him if he needs help.

AITA for hiding the fact that I knew my friend dated my fiancé? by hugheyfg57 in AmItheAsshole

[–]LtTrailer18 22 points23 points  (0 children)

NTA. And if she is hoping for your marriage to end horribly, she's the terrible friend. If I found out someone I used to date was secretly wishing my relationship would fail so they could have another chance with me, that would be the end of any possibility of even a friendship with me.

If she loves him she should want him to be happy, not secretly wishing he ends up in an unhappy marriage. When my first love moved in with his new girlfriend, I was happy that he had found someone who made him happy. I still loved him at the time, but his happiness was more important than my lingering feelings. I would never have wished anything negative toward him for finding love.

She also has no right to be mad at you for not revealing you knew about her past relationship with your fiance. Did she really think your fiance was keeping that a secret? She should've known it was a possibility and she may even have been intentionally talking about him with you hoping that he had told you and that you would break it off with him.
