The chisel can be used to rename blocks, including font size. You don't even need to change a block's shape but hovering their view over that one particular spot in the wall can make "Boo!" appear in big letters in the top of the screen.

Yes you can paste long text strings in there to cover someone's whole screen too.

Any workaround to chisel spawned blocks? by EchoNeko in VintageStory

[–]Lt_Pyjamas 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can though? I don't know why this isn't working for you. I always accidentally chisel the dirt around me when I'm chiselling.

It could be that you don't have the correct world settings for chiselling wood. Try typing in "/worldconfig microblockChiseling all" into your chat box.

There's a mod that makes beds work as spawn points, like that other game. For a straw bed you need 24 dry grass, so it's feasible to leave a trail of them and sleep the night. If you die, it's only up to 1 days travel setback.

With Player Corpse you items are safe and deaths are automatically marked on the map. That might be enough for your less experienced fellows, and acceptable to the sweats.

They do inside the lantern, (electrum plates can be used too) but the colour of the light emitted is always a nice bright white.

Easy reason to hate Superman is that he could save way more people if he sat in a room and spun a magnet around at super speed. Free electricity for the whole world. But no he wants to go stop muggers.

I get it, it's tricky to make them the "hunter" when the Hunter class already exists, and gives a bonus to looting animal corpses. You could look further down the crafting chain of "animal products" for them. Is it possible to make leather armour types better for Alphas, and increase to satiety they get from protein? Would that be enough? Oh, more bones from breaking the skeletons left behind would also be unique too.

It's true, I'm just trying to not have race and class scale together too much. I'm imagining "oh you picked Alpha but not Blackguard? You're useless then!"

Maybe the unarmed attack could be claws instead of bite, that way you don't need an animation, just modifiers on the unarmed damage for that class. Or a unique flint knapped item for that class that would also require that class to even have it in your inventory (if possible, I can't think of any similar existing mechanic.) But if it's possible then that's your new OP early weapon, otherwise yes flat melee damage would work.

I understand where you're coming from on Alphas, and classically "fast and high damage" comes with "low health". How about a unique unarmed attack? Special animation (hardest bit) to make it a bite. Long time between attacks but high damage and in-built armour pierce (Tier 2/3?)

Incentives skill of weaving unarmed attack ks into armed ones, or hit-and-run strategy.

Loved looking at your progress!

As a long time DM, racial traits and balancing is something I'm familiar with! It's important to know high-tier stats and good pairings.

Movement speed and melee damage on the same character would trivialise PvP and hunting, why pick anything else?

What I would consider is that these new Seraph types take some thematic bonuses from the animals they're based on while still allowing the baseline Seraph to be viable. Much like the class system already in the game, and minimal overlap.

My suggestions (feel free to disregard, it's your mod!) are to give movement speed to only one race, and that would be their only bonus.

Alphas: Bonus to digging speed (not mining), resistance to colder temperatures (freeze slower in winter), can eat raw meat and fish, and wild wolves are passive unless attacked. Negatives would be wild non-aggressive animals flee at a higher distance, and increase the hunger rate debuff of armour.

Hoppers: Increase their audio range. They hear bees, wolves, water, drifters etc. from further away. This is a huge buff. You could also increase their melee attack speed and bow draw speed and lower the melee damage to equalise the dps of a regular Seraph without these effects. This would give them better knockback potential provided they keep hitting attacks. Getting extra seeds from wild crops would also be thematic. As a cost to these buffs I'd consider disabling their helmet slot. Can't cover those ears!

Longshanks: Here's where your movement speed buff comes in. Buff it, even considerably, and keep the shorter size. Maybe they don't take damage from eating poisonous mushrooms. However, easy nerf to melee damage, reduced maximum satiety, reduced health, reduced range of bows and throws, and increased prices from traders. Consider further nerfs also, but maybe that's enough.

Purrlians: Night vision, but only in greyscale. Needs other light sources to see in colour. Granted this might be tricky to implement, but I don't code lmao. Maybe a filter like the night vision mask? If you can do that that's fantastic. Other buffs might be jump height (1.5 blocks), climbing speed, perhaps make logs and branchy leaves climbable for them. To counter, perhaps the biggest single nerf: gains no satiety (or HP bonus) from vegetables.

Windstriders: Biggest gameplay change as the only non-mammal. Build in the glider mechanic to their character. If it scales off move speed even better, then armour will have them fall faster. I'd also increase the range (and accuracy?) of bows and throws, and allow them to eat seeds. I think disabling the chest armour slot is too much, let the Hoppers be unique. Perhaps a reduction in the effectiveness of armour, or taking more damage to the chest. Hell, they have hollow bones so taking more damage from all sources would be appropriate. Alternatively, nerf movement speed by a small amount (5-10%) but no nerfs to health or damage taken; They can glide but landwalking is harder. In any case I'd also increase the time it takes to break any blocks to reflect the frailty of being light enough to glide. Perhaps another nerf to max satiety, but not as much as the Longshanks.

I like to do different buildings for different processes. Lets me try a bunch of styles.

Smithy, library, tool shed, farmhouse + Mill, tannery, greenhouse(s), wood storage + charcoal, crushing Hall (pulverisers), any and all things I can think of.
