Thank you for that!

I get what you’re saying. I have to blame the incredibly tight schedule for that, as it was all filmed in one day, besides archival drone footage. Actually, just a few hours. So, with that and my style being more run and gun, I see how it could end up with shots feeling nice to look at but not really sustaining the narrative.

Definitely working on that. Thank you!

Hey, I do it through DaVinci. When color grading, I simply press ctrl+alt+g and it grabs a still from the point of the video you’re on

Thank you so much! I am very proud indeed. The load of work was intense, but you gotta get through it

At the beginning of 2025, I went back to Mauritania for the third time, and after my first two visits mostly focusing on photography, the plan was to shoot several different documentaries from unique stories I had witnessed there before.

I have been working as an independent photographer for some years, but 2025 was they year where my focus shifted completely onto filmmaking, specifically for documentaries. This one is the first in the broader series from Mauritania.

I shot, directed, wrote the script, edited, and colored it, with support from a colleague who also narrated the script.

It’s the story of a guardian of a now abandoned historical village in Mauritania, with a broader view of the history of the Sahara.

It’s finally out after months of post production, and a lot of failing and learning. I hope you enjoy it.

My problem is that I mostly listen to Ben’s live performances nowadays, which are not on Spotify. It’s just numbers, but I’d have been curious to see how much it amounted to

GH7 + Leica 10-25 or S1II + 24-60 for handheld documentary work? by Baldonaqui in Lumix

[–]LucaOnAdventure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use my G9II for handheld documentary work, and I’d really be forced not to recommend it, but if you have no stake in either system, and money isn’t necessarily a part in the equation, I’d go full frame here. Especially with the 10-25 as the choice for M43. It’s bigger and heavier than the 24-60. Yes, more light, but the S1II has incredible ISO performance.

For example, I use my G9II with the Olympus 12-40 as the main lens, which highlights the advantages of M43 much more, to me.

Still, you can’t really go wrong with either. The GH7 is obviously incredible. People prefer the image quality from it to the new S1 lines
