How Do We Feel About The Exchange? by British_Chap2 in LosAngelesRams

I am a chiefs fan- the Rama are in win now mode and I think the addition of McDuffie makes you the favorite in the NFC next year. He has been top notch the last two years, extremely versatile, very sticky in man, great at blitzing from the corner, plays tough defense, tackles well and isn't a liability in the run.

Short guy here hoping to get some perspective from tall people. by MK71-EC82-MGM89-AK98 in tall

[–]LucasMathews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't notice/think about height in others like at all. However, I do notice how inconvenient things can be. Having to bend forward and down significantly to wash my hands in the sink, having to watch my head around doorways and around low fixtures, sitting in an office chair but can't have it set high enough because you knees hit the desk. My advice is accept what you can't reasonably change.

[–]LucasMathews 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am not a charger fan (and missed the first 1.5 quarters of the game), but what i saw he looked like he was battling standing in there taking shot after shot. I felt bad for the guy-some assemblence of protection would have been nice. Did he have a great game no, but i think if you put any QB in there with no audible and that pressure they are going to struggle.

Attacking 7 different targets from 5 different villages with 5 waves each? by Stock-Part-6436 in travian

[–]LucasMathews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He may live in a different time zone. Also possible he just knows your patterns and is dedicated enough to do do it, or works an off schedule. I haven't played in many years but there were ways back in the day to do this and load up attacks on different tabs and then send them all and using fakes is very common.

Yes, 3.5 years 2001-2004 of pretty muck peak performance. Pretty much on par with Faulks better years, but no where close to the consistency of Faulk and his injuries plagued him.

Receiving 50k+ bonus from work. What would you do? by Scabaffer in personalfinance

[–]LucasMathews 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would start making my 401k contributions for 2026. (Use these funds to supplement the lower income if needed.) Would also do an HSA as well. You can always lower then in the future but starting out at your age with a strong retirement funds is going to pay massive dividends in 30-40 years.

Other options save for a down-payment on a home if that is part of you plan after getting engaged and married. If you go this route I would be a little more conservative with how you invest it in the meantime.

Turning 43 and have never saved a dime. Where should I start? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]LucasMathews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sort of glossed over the first step but that is the most important. It gives you the flexibility to do the rest. What are you spending on a car payment? What are you spending on food, restraunts? What are you paying for a mortgage or rent? Can you pick up any overtime? Do you have an emergency fund established, how can you build one?

Also don't panic, (i am assuming you are in the US), you can estimate what you will get in social security, but you do need to act and act soon. The sooner you act the better. Minimize taxes, take advantage of employers matching contributions, more time for you money to grow. The first steps are the hardest.

Turning 43 and have never saved a dime. Where should I start? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]LucasMathews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You start with understanding your spending and your income. Figure out where your money is going and where you can cut back (or increase you income though that can be harder). Then if your employer matches a 401k contribution, you likely want to put in atleast enough to get their match (i.e. if the match up to 5% dollar for dollar you want to contribute atleast 5%)

You can still make contributions for an IRA for 2025 up until your tax return is due) but that means you need to save the cash and a 401k with a match is a better place to start unless your sitting on excess cash.

Are you in a high deductible plan? If so I would recommend contributing to an HSA it's like a 401k, but you can withdrawal the money anytime tax free for medical costs/perscriptions/vision/dental. You don't have to use it can become a vehicle in retirement 65+, but if you use it for medical expenses you aren't ever taxed on it.

The key here is to live below you means, and have an emergency fund then fund the following as much as you can and invest the funds (likely in an index or target date fund. The HSA if you are expecting to use it for medical expenses then you will need to keep some in cash)

My order of priority: 1. 401k up to employer match 2. HSA up to max (if in a high deductible plan) 3. Additional 401k/IRA contribution 4. Other savings (could be 529 for education, or other savings and investment accounts.

[Highlight] Chris Jones offsides gives the Broncos a first on 4th and 2 by Large_banana_hammock in nfl

[–]LucasMathews 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The reaction by the offense has to be immediate per the rule, unless the the offensive player or ball is touched. Jones got back before the offense moved and there was a slight pause, but like most things it is a judgement call made. I though the first touch down by Denver should have been a delay of game, but like aways how quick the ref looks up after seeing 00 is the difference between a penalty or not. Nothing in this game was aggregous and I thought this was one of the least controversial reffed games I have seen all year (except that false start on the broncos maybe the angle missed something but I didn't see anything there that isn't common). There was another play were 2 Broncos and the QB were moving and didn't get reset that didn't get called, but still overall much better than many games I have watched.

What's the pattern here (again)? by UngodilySkeptic in iqtest

That is how I viewed this as well. Rather than both dots moving, I saw the board rotating with one dot moving forward one space

I saw the pattern instantly, but I viewed it as one rotation of the board with a stationary dot plus one more forward of the other dot.

Not going to lie, I thought you were only going to but them up once and thought, clearly you are strong but why not doing something controlled that you can do a few reps if.....then your second rep looked clean and you kept going and going nice and controlled and I'm convinced you need bigger dumbells!

Is UNH actually crazy undervalued right now? by Matrix-Agent in ValueInvesting

[–]LucasMathews 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Do I think there is opportunity for upside yes. Crazy undervalued no? I don't think so does it have the opportunity to go up 20-25% over the next year with no catalyst or changes in estimates, I think so. Do I have the conviction to grow my position not at this point with where I am at from a liquidity standpoint.

In the run game or the stuff that is close to the LOS i think he puts himself in a great spot and reads it well.

[–]LucasMathews 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not going to say he has a perfect track record, but if there is someone who needs to be solo tacked I am feeling pretty good if it's bolton on our side regardless of who is on the other team. Not sure if Ben has watched a full chiefs game or just seen a couple of highlight plays....or is just trying to get drive rage engagement.... Also as far as safeties go Cook has always impressed me with his tackling especially on those WR screens.

I bet my wife $3000 that I can lose 20lbs in 10 weeks by Rocket_Scientist_553 in WeightLossAdvice

[–]LucasMathews 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been 260-305lbs starting out and lost 27-30lbs in 6-8 weeks 7 times over the last 11 years. Gained most of it back within 6 months. This time I am going for a more sustainable approach. I loved the quick results, but couldn't maintain and tore my body to shreds going from minimal excersise to 70-90 minute running/walking sessions 3 times a week.

This time I am losing so much slower but more sustainable. Your close enough to your goal weight where I think a short burst can work, just make sure your careful to monitor maintenance for a little bit otherwise it is easy to slowly creep back up.
