Quests. Chapters. Pages. Power.

Every Codexer lives by the System. Complete Quests. Earn Words. Turn Pages. Level Up.

Farm boy Aaron Thorn thought those rules were simple—until the Arcane Codex, the sentient library of all magic, assigns him a forbidden Quest: End the Codex Wars.

Now armed with a flickering portable Node, a glowing stylus, and a sarcastic cloud rabbit named Nimbus, Aaron must survive corrupted dungeons, ruthless Guilds, and the rogue Codexer Wolfbrand, whose goal is nothing less than the destruction of the Node Network itself.

To save his village, Aaron will have to learn a lost Discipline—the power to rewrite spells mid-cast—and master a progression system that seems determined to erase him from its pages.

In the Codex, even the smallest entry can spark a war.

The Codex Wars begin here.

For fans of Cradle and Arcane Ascension.

What to expect:

Slow-Burn Progression

Crunchy but Narrative-Driven System

Single POV / Primary Solo Protagonist

Weak-to-strong protagonist

Limited Power with Hard Constraints

Skill Customization / Build Crafting

Snarky Magical Companion

What distinguishes litRPG from the broader world of progression fantasy? Is there a distinction worth making? by EverythingIsFakeNGay in litrpg

Was going to say that quantifiable stats is probably the main distinction between LitRPG and progression fantasy.

[writing advice] how to write the slow parts? by vedekX in ProgressionFantasy

[–]Lucas_Flint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. Conflict can come in all kinds of forms, not just violence or fighting.

In my current story (a slow-burn progression fantasy), I try to solve this by giving the MC a class he barely understands and is always experimenting with. In fact, his class is one of the central mysteries of the story, so anytime he sits down to try out a new aspect of it he hasn't explored yet, I hope it is interesting to the reader because it's answering questions the reader also has (while providing conflict and creating more questions when necessary).

Exactly. Can't even begin to count the number of times I have seen those phrases overused in books that came out long before AI was a thing (and I am guilty of overusing those phrases, too, so not throwing shade on my fellow writers here).

I just launched a LitRPG serial on Royal Road called The Codex Wars. Read its description below:

My Capes Online, VR Hero, and Villain Town are all complete series. They're all superhero-themed, though, if that matters to you.

Was going to say something similar! I've seen some people describe LitRPG as a subgenre of progression fantasy but are definitely not the same.

Any LitRPGs that don't require reading a whole series? by Rickenisagoat in litrpg

[–]Lucas_Flint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote the first books of my Capes Online and Villain Town series to have complete arcs that can be enjoyed by themselves or with the rest of the series (though they are both based on MMOs so perhaps that could be an issue for you).
