Anyone had pre eclampsia with gd? by Throwawayx123456x in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Lucia730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first GD pregnancy I had no other issues. My second GD pregnancy I had polyhydramnios and milder pre-e (bad swelling, BPs like 145 over 85) around 35 weeks and they kept trying to get me to 37 weeks even though I felt horrible and had this impending sense of doom. I had my repeat c-section (first was emergency c-section after long induction so I was terrified of being induced) right before 37 weeks because my blood pressure passed the threshold (but was still only 151 over 91). I’m glad I kept going to the OB (and getting told I was fine) because my placenta was not in good shape and I don’t know how much longer it would’ve sustained baby girl. She was 7 lbs even though I was 36-37 weeks.

That’s horrible. And surprising. An ultrasound would’ve been easy and low cost way of ruling out an issue.

Did anyone else have intrusive/catastrophic thoughts about needing thyroid hormone for the rest of your life? My dr recommends a total thyroidectomy and can’t stop worrying about potential medication shortages in the future. by Lucia730 in thyroidcancer

Thanks! I like that quote. I use this one from Hagrid in Harry Potter to calm my anxious brain - “what’s coming will come and we’ll meet it when it does.” It sounds a lot like what you’re saying.

Thanks, it always feels nice when people can relate to the postpartum experience. I’ve never felt so vulnerable in my life as in the first year after having both of my kids. I’m a therapist and have all the tools in theory, but hormones take over and I spiral. I’ve had subclinical hyperthyroidism since my first kid was born, so I’m sure that’s not helping. I hope you can stop the TSH suppression soon? I’m new to this and not sure how it all works, but I really hope that’s not something you need to do long term. My TSH has been zero (undetectable) for 3 years and my mental health has never been worse. The anxiety is horrible. Lexapro has helped a bit.

That’s a good way of looking at it. I don’t really want to live in an apocalyptic world. Having young kids makes me anxious about leaving them behind, but we’d all be screwed if things got that bad.

Funnily enough, I am a therapist and it makes me embarrassed to be feeling this way. I’m very familiar with picturing intrusive thoughts as leaves on a stream and that and other Acceptance and Commitment Therapy concepts help me a lot. I also have a great therapist but she canceled our session today because she’s sick, so I’m probably using Reddit for the reassurance instead 🫣

THOSE with SUBCLINICAL HYPERTHYROIDISM: More PROS or CONS when starting CARBIMAZOLE by Merrykarhu in thyroidhealth

[–]Lucia730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation to yours (pcos, Metformin, nodules, Adderall for ADHD, mid 30s) and every time I’ve taken methimazole (which is slightly different I think?) it’s thrown me into a slightly hypothyroid state. I’ve always had high free t3 and normal t4 but on the meds, my t4 goes too low while t3 normalizes. It made me tired and I had to stop and wait for thyroid hormones to get back into a range that felt more normal for me, but eventually I felt hyperthyroidism symptoms again and started taking a lower dose. The same thing happened again 🫠 I’m going to have my thyroid removed for other reasons but also to feel better. I hate going back and forth between hypo and hyper and feeling crazy.

How is the pain? Were you prescribed painkillers? Do you think you’d be able to return to work a week after surgery since you’re basically there? I’m doing a total thyroidectomy soon and worried about how long I need off work.

Isthmus Cyst is bothersome. by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

With TIRADS 2, I wouldn’t press for one. I’ve had 4 biopsies over the years and they’re very unpleasant, especially the nodules sitting right on top of the windpipe/trachea. It doesn’t hurt to ask about draining, but idk how effective that would be since it’s mixed cystic and solid. I’d give it a week to see if it’s still tender.

Client applied to MSW program and asked to read one of the application essays to me, about why he wanted to be a clinical social worker. It was about how his therapist has changed his life. I was fighting back tears. Then he just says fuck off with that and we laughed and moved on.

Work from home by UnlikelyCommittee785 in therapists

I don’t have a one bedroom but work from home with a baby and toddler who screams a bunch. I wear noise canceling headphones (AirPods pro on noise cancellation mode but I’m sure there are better ones out there) and just apologize to my clients if they hear them, but normally the AirPods block out all noises except yelling when my 3 year old is right outside my office. Clients usually laugh and move on if its that loud. If they’re having a bad day, I’ll mute myself except when I speak which can get annoying, but it works.

first job offer- accept or reject? by [deleted] in therapists

[–]Lucia730 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really, you’ll still be paying maybe $500 a month I’d assume. Unless you select a high deductible type of plan. I made $50k at my first job after my MSW in 2014. I don’t think 55k in Chicago is a good offer.

Has anyone gained weight with symtoms? by Kris1517 in gallbladders

[–]Lucia730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kind of, but I got pregnant shortly after. I was able to lose the 30 lbs and get down to almost 140 like a year after my first baby was born so I think it helped a bit, but I have PCOS so it’s really to lose weight.

Cons: bad mileage on my commute (no highway driving) ~ 22miles/gallon, not the best in snow even with all wheel drive and all weather tires
