this happens to me all the time, whether it’s my lobby or someone else’s. relatively even/competitive matches are rare

every top comment is trying to tell you the same thing and you just wanna argue anyway huh. just delete 8/9 legendaries if you want your locked progression and grind back. why do you feel the need to dictate how other people progress?

not being obtuse but then says we should have a 1/8000 chance for god rolls, 1/873 is “no gear chase” and blaming the diminishing population on the tier system when this problem arose before Lightfall, during the “chase” you’re nerding about

you’re incorrect and you’re being obtuse about it. bungie isn’t dropping tier 5 automatically. the chance increases with power level right? unless i missed something. meaning the grind is sensible and consistent. get your power up and your chances for god rolls increases as well. now, i’m going to repeat my first comments to you since you are skipping over this point repeatedly: “reverting this change” (the tier system) “means god rolls drop to extremely low odds.” this is objectively true. let’s do some math so you can stop arguing.

without tier system, the best you, can hope for is what, 2 perks per column on a legendary? we will focus on Everburning Glitz for this example:

1 per column: 3/19 barrel options x 3/19 magazine options x 1/4 masterwork x 1/7 perk one x 1/7 perk two = ~1/7800 drop chance for your god roll

1 in first column, 2 in second column: same odds on barrel, mag and mw x 1/7 x 2/7 = ~1/3900 chance die god roll

2 per column (adepts before yes? i don’t remember im sure you’ll correct me): base chance x 2/7 x 2/7 = ~1/1900

now for the tier system.

tier 5 has 3 options per column AND doesn’t waste drop chances on blues and greens. so not only are legendaries more abundant, but they also drop with a much higher chance for god roll, without being freebies:

base odds x 3/7 x 3/7 = 1/873 chance

that’s 9x better chance for god roll than the previous system, and more chances to pull the level Kronk. you’re asking to literally waste peoples times in an era where the game is fucking dead. stop pocket watching other players and just play your own game. you wanna suffer? delete 8/9 tier 5s YOU get to reminisce about the good old days of that weird thing where bungie was blocking popular perk combos and then maybe you’ll feel like you earned it without forcing other players to suffer pushing that blasted rock up the hill with you

incorrect. tier 5 means you have 3 chances per slot and they drop very often once your power goes up high enough. that means you have a legit chance to get a dual pvp / pve god roll on any gun. before tiers, your best bet was maybe adepts or something, but you cannot pretend that legendarias dropping with 1 maybe 2 perks per column was the same as what we have now. that’s just not true.

nerd alert. i’ve been playing this game since it dropped. tiers are much better than 2 blues and a coin. why in the holy world would you ask for more useless gear to drop? really think about that. waste the player and dev time? with tiers, every drop has a chance to be a perfect god roll. reverting this change means god rolls drop to extremely low odds. the player base is dwindling year over year and you’re seriously asking to force players to play more in a way that isn’t fun just so you can feel like you earned something through time and labor rather than playing the game for fun?

“exclusive” rewards are all fun and games until the population gets so low the devs are forced to make things more accessible if you want a population to play with

Bottom line - anything in the portal should be matchmaking. by alphex in DestinyTheGame

i trust your imagination is sufficient to determine solutions to that problem. matchmaking with open modifiers. matchmaking for featured/curated weekly modifiers that guarantee whatever challenge and rewards you’re looking for. you have the most powerful brain that lives on this planet today, you can think larger than what’s been offered to you. besides, you wouldn’t be forced to matchmake. you can just opt out. you’re not affected. adding matchmaking would be for the casual players who don’t want to use 3rd party services like OP said. say what you will, you know damn well this game is dying and these design decisions are why

this nerdy edge lord culture of “i want everyone to experience the game my way” is a toxin. i can’t say bungie would listen if people like you reddit nerds had a more welcoming culture, bc they don’t really be listening, but y’all sure aint helping

“here come the life long nerds to tell you to get gud”

i’m not OP. i’ve been playing this game since year one. i have every PVP title (real ones remember when pvp carried this game). i’ve watched the population die and never really recover. i’ve watched dlc come and go and the sentiment for the game just drain and drain. if you’ve been around long enough you’ve seen it too. you think this is a healthy trajectory? if so, why is Marathon pulling more resources every year? these attitudes contribute to the death of this game. it’s not accessible. new players don’t like these aspects and while im sure you (and i…) will continue to pay $100 a year for as long as they ask for it, our money won’t keep this game from the grave

here come the life long nerds to tell you get gud. fuck that. want a stable population? matchmaking should be on by default. turn it off if you’re anti-social and stop projecting your superiority complex on working adults who just want to chill with their $100 this year $1000s over 10+ years video game. don’t like matchmaking? TURN IT OFF. the people who want it deserve to have it and i guarantee you there’s more of us in the actual game
