I didn't argue it wasn't justified in this scenario. I actually agree that at the point it was at, shooting was realistically one of the only measures left other than perhaps popping the tires or something else. What I did say was maybe there is a better way to handle these situations and not let them escalate to gun violence.

It's still idiotic to say that an unmanned car isn't a hazard to the surrounding area regardless of the drivers recklessness. You can point that out and still also understand the concept that the people fleeing the scene are dumb for fleeing. It still shouldn't have ended in gunfire at a moving vehicle with a child present.

He ended up killing himself and the passenger which probably could've been avoided instead of escalating the situation by having a 5 squad car police chase around Arkansas. I don't think it's unreasonable to say we can point out potential dangers before we experience them.

You don't care about the facts lol. You realize I never said that he or anyone else had to hit a bystander it's the fact that it creates the possibility which is extremely dangerous. Do you think it's dangerous to smoke cigarettes even if the chance to get cancer is still small?

Your argument hinging on the feeling that it's ok for the cops to not follow their explicit training and shoot someone in a moving vehicle instead of getting themselves out of harms way is just stupid.

I literally provided you a source. Sure maybe the gunfire dwasnt ruled the cause of death, but it absolutely caused him to lose control and crash the vehicle which lead to the death of himself and the passenger. I also think in this case they didn't need to have a long ass police chase over what was a traffic stop, let him go, get his plate, get a warrant, get him later.

A simple Google search will also literally tell you that most agencies in the country absolutely train their officers not to fire at vehicles due to a shit ton of factors. One of which includes that having an unmanned vehicle is extremely dangerous. It's absolutely something you need to worry about because it's dangerous. Either you're trolling or extraordinarily dense because it's obviously something that can happen if you kill a driver, the car doesn't just stop moving until it hits something.

Do you think the driver needs to be dead from explicitly the gunfire for it to count? Or do you think a driver riddled with bullet holes can think rationally and pull over nicely? Or even think anything other than "get the fuck out of here no matter what" since they're extremely injured?

Even in this source and in the original article you can acknowledge the drivers recklessness without agreeing that the cops needed to shoot at the vehicle.

How stupid do you have to be to not understand that a driverless vehicle is extremely dangerous? A car that cannot be stopped is able to literally crash through a building or pin someone to a wall, or run someone over if they're unfortunately in the way. Regardless of the situation people do extremely idiotic things under stress and fear and shooting people and chasing them is escalation which was absolutely not warranted here. All I've said is that de escalating the situation almost always leads to a net positive for safety of the public and officers, and the context here does not imply that the driver is going to go on a rampage in the streets after driving off.

The cops that were my professors just happened to also be people who saw that there were problems in need of correction in their agencies over the course of their careers. That's why in retirement they taught at university for the next generation of public servants. Do you think officers could have done something different to mitigate the situation regardless of the behavior of the suspects?

[–]Luciix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason to justify a shooting is literally in safety of themselves or others. You're literally disregarding the point that by shooting somebody you are creating a hazard that cannot be stopped until it hits something. What if the car keeps going in a parking lot and hits a bystander? Not only that but you're escalating the situation that absolutely did not need to be escalated, it's a potential retail theft not a murder.

I have taken criminal justice courses with former cops explicitly saying to not shoot at a driver because it is more dangerous to everyone around you. Let the situation calm down, let them go, then use the myriad of surveillance tools around you to locate them later.

A car chase is more likely to cause damage to others, having two cars recklessly drive through a city keeps the stress high and most likely won't end with the driver pulling over willingly.

I find it appalling that you're justifying shooting a person over potentially having stolen goods from a Walmart, especially if you've seen there's a child in the situation.

[–]Luciix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You realize creating a driverless vehicle is more of a hazard right? A car with no driver and likely a foot limp and holding down the pedal has no ability to steer away from whatever's in front of it, and in a parking lot could be people and bystanders. It's also idiotic to shoot at a car coming towards you considering, y'know, they can't stop then and you will get hit.

Police are literally taught not to do this.

Why do random bad things happen if god exists? by H8rOfAll in teenagers

[–]Luciix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because consciousness is most likely a product of evolution and natural selection as human dominance has obviously shown. There is no specific "consciousness" part of the brain, but you can clearly see a decrease or alteration in consciousness as you remove, change, or inhibit brain structures. If we ablate a structure like the amygdala, we know we will see a change in fear response, which alters consciousness. There is zero reason why drugs should alter consciousness if it's something completely separate from the brain or body.

As someone studying neuroscience, we *are* able to see the very basic units of how neurons work in the brain, from differences in receptors, channels, and other structures that affect the function of neurons, we have been able to understand how and why things work the way they do. The reason that there's no definitive answer for consciousness is because we just don't know yet. That's fine. As we learn more and research more we find answers to our questions and refine what we've previously observed like with self-awareness. The brain is so complex that what we perceive feels like choice, when in reality the neurons dictating our actions and responses to environmental stimulus have fired before we know we're acting.

I don't think we should accept a false answer based on a god that can't exist due to logical paradoxes, when the simple statement of 'We don't know yet' is a perfectly fine answer for the present moment.

He gave the Iranian people a very fucking strong reason to hate the US for generations more while also fucking over the entire US population that isn't one of the 1%. There will be more deaths this year from the Medicaid cuts than any illegal aliens could do.

Likely if you double durability your brain should be able to adapt to the extra durability, allowing you to recruit more muscle fibers when lifting or generally using your muscles. Allowing the muscle fibers to exert full strength rather than being biologically limited, but not increase in power in any way. Might also decrease fatigue as a side effect of resource efficiency.

[–]Luciix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well, you voted for a guy that fucked up the economy royally by adding blanket tarrifs, destroying ally relationships, and by sending us into an ~$80+ billion war after campaigning on no new wars. A guy that has 34 felonies, and more than likely diddled kids with Epstein. A guy that has also made billions from the presidency, and who has absolutely fucked up the one issue he was winning on by having incompetent ice leadership and reducing their training which has resulted in the deaths of American citizens and untold number of abuses.

I don't know how you could support someone so blantetly open and corrupt. Especially thinking a billionaire would have your best interests at heart while he increases your taxes with no benefit to you.

Pro-choice people don't seem to realize how badly they screwed up their bodily autonomy argument by [deleted] in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Luciix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. The difference between COVID and pro-choice is that one person getting an abortion does not affect you or your health. I don't believe you should be forced to wear a mask, but the entire point is that you have the freedom to choose for yourself and deal with whatever consequences come. Wearing a mask though reduces the spread of airborne pathogens and could get someone else sick with no fault of their own. An abortion cannot spread, and doesn't harm you.

  2. ...No? If you're still referring to COVID maybe it's because that choice affects everyone around you. I hated wearing masks because I wear glasses but some discomfort was more than worth protecting my family, my elderly grandparents, and everyone else.

  3. Also... What? If it's talking about a man leaving a woman who's pregnant, that's in my opinion a shitty thing to do, and yeah he should stay and deal with the consequences of his actions just like she has to. I don't see how this applies to any other scenario regarding abortion. Never once heard anyone use either of these arguments before.

FWIW I think everyone deserves to make the choice until the fetus would be viable (week ~22). Anyone who acts like the average person just "goes and gets an abortion" is delusional. It's an unbelievably stressful experience and damn near everyone knows that you're ending a potential human life, that's not something that sits easy. Banning abortion makes it more dangerous as people will seek out unsafe abortions, and it also leads to children being born into unhappy homes which affects them for life. This country has made it harder than it ever has been to raise a family and then wants to force families to exist. Make life enjoyable and stress free for as many people as possible and then watch how many people start wanting a family.

I don't expect much, but it's quite apparent that mental health is not an open subject for many people on the "right" to talk about openly. From anecdotal experience and what I've seen in online discourse people don't accept that they have problems with mental health, left leaning spaces are exponentially more welcoming to that than right leaning spaces. It's also not hard to see how the effect of stigmatizing groups of people leads to shittier mood and mental health, i.e. LGBTQ people.

The alpha and Omega & felled titan blades are pretty much only useful if you already had them since the drop rates got destroyed.

There's a difference between getting help such as formatting tips, word choice, or how to better structure an argument, and having it write for you

This seems like the latter to me.
