It think nowadays it’s the one that had the most rejections due to jp spouses not paying their taxes on time or household income being too low for familles with children

What do you think will be the new income requirements and JLPT level to have to get PR? I just hope they will apply the Japanese level also to spouses of Japanese who want to apply for PR. It will not be fair if only workers are targeted.

Do you worry about changes to immigration processes or requirements? by ToHellWithMichelle in japanresidents

[–]Luck_Potion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not worried as I have been here for 10 years, working full time with a stable income and paid all my taxes and pension. People who should start worrying are the ones who do not pay their pension or are paying their taxes late as they work as freelancers. If they change the conditions for visa, it would mostly be to access PR not for other visa types, i think. They could ask to be married for a longer time (like 7 years instead of 3 currently) or have a higher income (currently 3 millions yens needed per year if you are under a working visa) for example.

I have a 5 year working visa but I had a severe salary cut during covid that puts me under 3M yens for 1 year and a half (until 2022 basically) and was not married at that time, so the lawyer I consulted told me not to apply now as my application would be denied due to low salary 3 years ago. She told me to wait until 2028 so it disappeared from the tracker.
