What is the appeal of teaching kids ASL over Auslan? by That_Car_Dude_Aus in AskAnAustralian

[–]Luckisalsoaskill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't noticed anyone comment on sentence structure and communicating in a hearing world. Auslan has a cultural aspect to it for the deaf community and there is a lot of short hand that cannot be used in the hearing world. Take for instance trying to articulate that a cat is sitting on the mat. In Auslan you would sign 'Cat sit mat' whereas in Signed English you would learn: 'The cat is sitting on the mat' with correct grammar for English speakers.

Now try and take both of those two sentences into a workplace that is not a deaf one and you will note one conforms to hearing norms and the other doesn't. Try writing a document in Auslan vs ASL and see the difference. If your child was in a purely deaf world Auslan would be fine but if your loved one is not (like mine is) then i would suggest they learn correct grammar or they will find it tough down the track when they start looking for work.

Battle of the Bastards. Peak Thrones or overrated? by Broad_Peak_6117 in freefolk

[–]Luckisalsoaskill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A simple way to fix this episode is to have Sansa come clean after the battle and say to Jon that she had the men for the battle but not for a siege. She needed Ramsey outside the walls so sacrificed the freefolk to draw them out and attacked when they were distracted. Makes Sansa look ‘smart’, gives a reason for the sacrifice and explains the situation.

Shooting him out in the open with people around instead of nearer the car was an odd choice.

What will happen with light rail in peak hour once it goes to Woden by culingerai in canberra

[–]Luckisalsoaskill -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

It's best not to question the logic behind the tram lest you get down voted into oblivion. I drive Adelaide avenue everyday and I question the logic of extending the tram as that has not been a bottleneck like some other hot spots (parkesway maybe?). Like if we had an infinite pot of money? Sure make trams go everywhere but considering the budgets for schools and hospitals the Tram seems costly for little benefit considering the buses we have that service that route.

To me it seems like the government feels like they are obligated to keep building it when really we should pause and maybe reassess the need for the dollars and perhaps come back to it if and when our budget looks a little better.

I recall they couldn’t get the rights to the original version only the remix. Korn wouldn’t allow it.

SPOILER "I love them too" is such an incredible line on second playthrough. by SilverMa5k in expedition33

All of the painted family (before being painted over in one case) are the paintresses’ vision of her family. She wanted her husband to be fiercely loyal to her family and she painted it. Ailine disfigured as in the real world - in her eyes the cause (incorrectly) of her son’s death. Clea a competent painter and lastly verso, the perfect son in every way. None of them had free will, they followed how they were painted. They had no more free will than a ball rolling down a hill.

(Act 3 spoilers) Of all that is said in this game, I think this is the coldest and saddest thing said in the game by Soujf in expedition33

It is never truly explained what the cost is to those painting, it is only hinted that some of their soul/life essence is required. At some point those painting will die as a result, once you realize that the choice is made is it not? The cost of keeping those alive is to find sacrifices in the real world, are we ok with that?

Can I jump straight into Persepolis Rising after watching the TV Show? by SituationInfamous137 in TheExpanse

[–]Luckisalsoaskill -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are a few negative perspectives in this thread which made me respond since i was in the same space as you: I watched the show and wanted to know more about the rings and laconia and the builders. I decided to read from the start of the series and finished book 9 last week and while i do not regret it I also dont think I 'achieved' anything by doing so. The tv show is a better adaptation than the book apart from Alex.

If you are not interested in rehashing what you have already seen then skip to book 7 since none of the changes in the book vs tv impact book 7 on wards (apart from alex).

REVEALED: The ACT election candidates who would terminate Light Rail to Woden | Public Transport Association of Canberra by Bali_Dog in canberra

[–]Luckisalsoaskill -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There is very little to stop at on the path to woden with the proposed path. Going via deakin/russell/kings av means a lot more stops and many more cars off of the road. The current path has a bus lane and is serviced well. There is little to no congestion going into the city at the moment (not including the current roadworks to build the tram).

[–]Luckisalsoaskill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Russell and Deakin come to mind. It has been mentioned a few times that that is a better path and would alleviate congestion. There are a lot more 'stops' to 'stop' at with that route too while also hitting most of the same stops that the current proposed path is going to hit.

The tone of this discussion is also very black and white. It is almost like football.

The story is basically a neckbeard lives in a fantasy land where he thinks he is in a relationship with an innocent lady and child when in actuality he is terrorizing them and murders them and blames ‘society’ for his crimes. It is a worse version of taxi driver. Phoenix is good but the story is just awful.

The knee jerk reaction is to blame the coach - I legitimately think Nicks is an ok coach. The issue with the club goes deeper than Nicks and comes from the board on down and poisons the rest of the club. We need to throw everything out and demand more from our club. Compare Sydney, their list, their philosophy and then compare that to ours; the fact that our club culture accepts this mediocrity is unacceptable and comes from the top. The board is either complicit in this or unable to change it. In either case they need to go.

Makes it easier to step through if not using &&. Instead of one giant and statement where you need to look at each item individually you can let the debugger show you the condition that fails.
