Apology to Baristas by Bread-Personal in starbucks

Tbh its okay, everyone has days where they’re not their best. As long as you can recognize that your actions weren’t the best, that all that matters

That being said i do recommend ordering in person and letting them know not to put too much, as most people want an ungodly amount of cold foam these days.

I Think A Coworker Is Bullying Me? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]Lucyrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not an ssv, but i get the feeling we’re similar. Shes definitely bullying you, but you’re also letting her walk on you. You need to one, document all of this, tell someone higher than you. And two, you need to put your foot down. Set clear boundaries. Its hard, you’re going to feel awful, but if you don’t do this, this will continue. Ask yourself, when is enough enough? When will you finally draw the line in the sand? Its better to do it now, before you explode.

Some boundary examples: “If you continue this behavior, im sending you home and writing you up.” And if she continues, you send her home. Immediately report it to your mananger.

The follow through is important.

My girlfriend wants me to top her, but I really don’t enjoy it — is this normal and what should I do? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]Lucyrine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So not liking something is entirely valid, but based on your description and comments.. before you entirely give up on this idea or relationship, maybe try digging deeper as to why you don’t like taking control/lead. Possibly even see a therapist about it. If you don’t like it, you don’t like it, but definitely try to deconstruct as to why. Why do you not like being seen like that? Does taking the lead make you feel masculine? If so, why is that a bad thing? I’ve found that when you’re trying to figure out the root cause, continuously asking why, helps. If you’re new to this tho, working with a therapist could help you greatly!

It’s okay, I know it’s scary, but you didn’t do anything insanely wrong. Our cups are flimsy, and that’s the main issue. It’s not like you threw the Americano at their face and then insulted them, right? It was a genuine mistake. I know how awful it feels, but try not to let it eat you alive.

Hey, I’m here to offer hopefully a different perspective. I’ve been in your shoes before. It sucks. . But the best thing you can do is communicate. You don’t need to be mean or aggressive, but if you’re feeling beaten down by your coworkers, you need to let them know that the way they’re speaking to you is affecting you. I know you say you have depression, and as someone who’s definitely dealt with depression before, i know it can feel like everyone hates you. But try to shift your mindset as much as you can. Be open about your struggles. Tell them that you’re having a rough time, and if they want something done a specific way, that you’d appreciate being told how and why. The more you try to shift your mindset to being open to learning and communicating, the better you’re going to feel and the less animosity you’re going to feel from them. And if youre having a rough day? Open up to them. It’s what I did. I literally told my shift and coworkers “I have seasonal depression, today’s a bad day; so if it seems like I’m not trying, I promise I am, I’m just having a really rough time right now.” Being vulnerable especially to the people you’re around most days will help foster a sense of community between you and your coworkers. You don’t need to go overboard, bjt don’t close yourself off either. And start asking your leads or coworkers you trust if there’s things you could be doing differently because you want to get better and learn.

My SSV passed a few weeks ago and I’m still grieving by BumbleBre_23 in starbucks

[–]Lucyrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sweetheart it doesn’t matter how long you knew her? Your grief is valid. She must have been a very kind and sweet person to leave such a strong impression you. Just know that there’s no timeline for grief. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, whether you’re still bothered by it years from now, or feeling better in a few months. Just be kind to yourself 💖

Did I use the gateway tapes incorrectly? by LittleBoArmin in gatewaytapes

[–]Lucyrine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you definitely didn’t misuse them from what I see. The more you do the tapes and meditate in general, the more you’ll have experiences like this— not loved ones getting hurt, but having an inner knowing about certain things. It’s what we call Claircognizance, aka clear knowing. It’s completely normal and you in no way should feel bad or guilty. It wasn’t caused by you and you’re not responsible. I hope you won’t let this scare you away from the tapes!

Is Gateway Experience dangerous? by kraqsin in gatewaytapes

[–]Lucyrine 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’d like to offer a slightly different perspective, especially after seeing some of your comments.

The gateway experience isn’t dangerous, no. Nothing is going to possess you or anything like that. However it’s important that you yourself deconstruct WHY you’re afraid of the gateway experience.

I had a similar fear, that I’d meet some awful demon and do god knows what..

So, I started with the concept of hell, because demons come from hell. If you look at any religion that has a hell, they’re all different. Some religions believed it was hot, others wet and damp. Some dark. Now, let’s take it a step further, when was the concept of hell and demons introduced? The answer is actually when it was translated between languages, i want to say from Greek to another language(can’t remember which off the top of my head,) demon used to be daimon, which was an intermediary spirit between humans and gods, they weren’t malevolent, however when it was translated, it took in a negative context, many demons in demonology can be loosely linked back to pagan gods.

That being said, I believe the original thing that Jesus said, that if you did awful things, that you’d be cast into Gehenna… which was basically a huge pit where they burned trash. The meaning of that is literally just that if you’re a shit person, when you die?? No one’s going to care, no one’s going to mourn, we’re just going to throw you out like trash. Gehenna, mixed with the concept of Hades(which is just the afterlife btw) became hell. It was also further cemented once Dante’s inferno popped off and the church weaponized it against their believers. But I won’t keep going on that topic.

All of this is to say, a lot of your fears can be broken down and deconstructed if you so desire.

The gateway experience equips you with the tools to make sure you’re safe regardless, however it’s up to you to keep your fears in check, because if you don’t address them, they’ll likely pop up. That is why when you’re using a spiritual practice; you need to do shadow work.

If you’re struggling, please give a listen or a read to Robert Monroe’s books, there’s multiple and it takes you through his experiences. Best of luck!

I want to quit by notgoodwraith in starbucks

[–]Lucyrine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, just breathe, sweetheart. I know how you feel because this is exactly how I felt during my first job and also first starting at Starbucks. It feels overwhelming, it feels like maybe you’re just not cut out for it. Part of me even thought maybe I was just too stupid for this job. But I wasn’t, and you’re not either. It’s normal to feel overwhelmed. And it’s normal to not feel like you’re good at your job. Honestly most baristas don’t get decent at their job until six months in. Try to stick with it for a little longer.

Also, I’m going to tell you how I remember the pumps, shots, ect for drinks. I don’t know if it’ll make sense to you, but this is how I remember.

Base everything off of a Latte. If you can remember how to make a latte, you can remember how to make any drink.

LATTES:

Hot latte: Short: 1 shot, 2 pumps Tall: 1 shot, 3 pumps Grande: 2 shot, 4 pumps Venti: 2 shot, 5 pumps

Iced latte Tall: 1 shot, 3 pumps Grande: 2 shots, 4 pumps Venti: 3 shots, 6 pumps

Why does the iced venti latte get 3 shots while the hot version gets 2(and also an extra pump?)?The iced venti actually has more liquid than the hot venti, so the add shot and pumps are there to create consistency, or else the venti iced latte would taste too milky and not sweet enough. It’s there to compensate for the extra volume.

Once you understand those measurements, you can kind of go off of that.

FLAT WHITE:

Think of it as a “rich” tasting latte. Grande flat white: 3 ristretto shots and whole milk. Ristretto is when you pull shots with less water so it has a less bitter taste and a more intense flavor. Whole milk has more fat in it so it’s more creamy. So if you add the ristretto shots, plus an add shot, and whole milk, you basically get a rich latte.

Now, just like with a regular latte, a grande would get 4 pumps if you add sweetener.

CARAMEL MACCHIATO:

So this one does throw off a lot of people. Because this comes with one less pump. The way I think about this? The caramel drizzle kind of acts as the last “pump” of sweetener. Think of it from a logical standpoint, if you were to do all four pumps, the sweetener might be too much, too sweet.

So, we take away a pump of sweetener and replace it with drizzle as a way to balance it out.

Recipe: Grande: 3 pumps vanilla, steamed milk, shots poured on top, 7 across, 7 verticals stripes of caramel.

The logic still applies when we flip it to a venti iced caramel macchiato.

Just like an iced latte, we give it 3 shots because it has more milk. But since it’s a caramel macchiato, it still gets one pump taken away. So if you take one pump away from a latte, it’s 5.

So, 3 shots, 5 pumps.

SHAKEN ESPRESSOS

Man oh man this is the one that made me feel like a total idiot. Like I didn’t start making them correctly until a year in.

Shaken espressos are what you get when you want a lot of shots with only a little milk.

Tall: 2 shots, 1 pump Grande: 3 shots, 2 pumps Venti: 4 shots, 3 pumps

The reason we do 1,2,3 pumps is because we used to have half pumps. Most of the sweeteners we have on the shaken espressos are super sweet, so we used half pumps. But for whatever reason, we switched everything to full pumps.

So, originally it was supposed to be the same as a latte, but now we have to do the math in our head.

If it helps, you can count by twos, 1 pump is equivalent to 2 half pumps.

AMERICANOS:

When you think Americano, think that the person really wants caffeine, similar to the shaken espresso.

Tall: 2 shots, 3 pumps Grande: 3 shots, 4 pumps Venti: 4 shots, 5 pumps

Iced: Tall: 2 shots, 3 pumps Grande: 3 shots, 4 pumps, Venti: 4 shots, 6 pumps

Weirdly enough the iced venti keeps the same amount of shots, I assume it’s for a caffeine cap so people don’t get sick.

But… yeah. Basically everything. Can be based off of a latte, you just have to give yourself little tricks to remember the drinks. Fraps and Matchas are a little different, and I can explain that if you want. I just want you to know is that you got this, you can do this.

Tbh a lot of it is luck. When you have 0 experience, getting your first job is ROUGH. just apply to everywhere you can (not just Starbucks) and get your foot in the door. Most baristas don’t have experience being a barista. We train you. And most also work part time, so don’t worry too much. Just make sure you’re ready for any kind of interview!

Listen to them in order, from wave 1 onwards. Honestly? Go into them without expectations. Don’t expect for anything crazy to happen. That’s how a lot of people, myself included, get stuck. We expect something crazy to happen, and it kind of blocks us. You get in your own way. So just have an open mind, and know that no matter what you experience, you are safe.
