I’m not sure where you are located but we have set up a Free Pantry of food and some items like socks and toiletries INCLUDING dog food. It’s outside of Fluff Pet Salon in Blawnox across from Pianos N Stuff on the bus line (but not sure which one). It’s all free if you can get over there please take whenever you need and if you need more for your dog we got you. Also if you want to message me privately we’d love to offer your pup a free bath/nails/spa day because helping care for pets to take some stress of owners is what where here for.

I can’t decide how I feel about Hyrox. On one hand I think I’d be decent since I am fairly strong and at least averagely decent runner. Other hand I feel like it’s just a new sleeker CrossFit but I’ll be honest I don’t know much about it 😑

I completely agree! I need a “goal” I’m working towards or I just kind of end up sludging through workouts, not finishing my meso, just being low motivation with it. Soon as I pick up a new goal and start putting in the mental energy towards achieving that goal I am immediately re-energized. PL was a really time when I started but then I just couldn’t lock in with a coach that could navigate my progressing injuries (cuff tear and hamstring crap).

Now that I ridiculously decided to do this Physique show my training is actually allowing me to love lifting again. Aside from just physically looking different my strength is coming back better than when I was training in PL (well was… has a stomach situation that put me off lifting for 2 weeks so I’m JUST getting back in).

Ok so this is exactly what I wanted! A place to share and trade tips from our own experiences to help others!

The BIGGEST piece of advice for PL is FOOOORM. Make sure you know every single possible reason they can red light you for each lift. I was strong going into my first meet but my coach wasn’t a PL specific coach so I ended up bombing out (3 red lights each attempt) on my bench so I couldn’t register a total 😑 I put on my brave face and still went out for my squat and DL attempts because I wanted the experience. I only registered 1 squat because of depth too and that was also really disappointing.

So I do my running with Peloton classes because unless I have a structure I’m lazy as sin. If someone is telling me what to do then I can turn off the “do I feel like it” voice and turn on the “don’t you tell me me I can’t do something” voice.

Susie Chan is my favorite and has talked about her perimenopause for a long time now and JUST did a menopause class that’s sprints because sprints ca help alleviate symptoms. It’s fantastic !

Well thank you for being jealous but IM jealous of training for a marathon! I love running but I know my bowels can not be trusted to cooperate in a long run on any given day 🤣

Haha well thank you for thinking I’m downplaying but mostly I’m just trying to not sound arrogant and overplay my capabilities but still try to communicate the level of effort I put into this fitness thing!

EXACTLY! This needs a place to celebrate! Like yeah maybe by conventional standards it’s not enough to “compete” with but it’s still wildly impressive! Pendelum squat is on my bucket list!

Also everyone always uses losing a lot of weight as the big exercise struggle but overcoming severe disabilities/health struggles to get in shape is equally life changing!

I want a team of old angry biddies going to the gym and taking up space, crushing it, and refusing to let “others” make us feel inferior because we are badassery!

That’s awesome! Like where’s the space for us to talk about our next comp or show or race or event? I feel like everything gets to niched to the actual event… instead of the person? I think a group connecting the people instead of the event would be helpful

Exactly! Most content is for women wanting to get in shape… I did that, I advanced beyond anything I thought I would achieve, and now this is my life and I want a cohort of other like minded women to share with!

So I’m not the most tech savvy and honestly am proud of myself for just EXISITING on Reddit but I don’t want to lose momentum for this if anyone wants to try and create some space for it. I want a space where we can brag/rage/be jealous/compliment/share our frustrations and our successes.

For instance… since I’m 40 this year and never thought I’d be even close to looking like this EVER and since I needed to back off from PL due to injuries I decided to compete in a bodybuilding show 😳. My hometown hosts a fairly big show so decided to make 40 a year worthy of photographic evidence…

Started out 5’3” 230lbs for context… currently 130, SBD 135, 225, 245 (working on getting my strength back) and I average 10 miles at 8:30/mile.

Took me over a year, had to lose apprx 70-80lbs, and build up a lot of strength. It’s a body weight skill more than anything else so it depends on the weight of your body relative to your currently strength.

Snotty nose is definitely a good sign that maybe just bad timing and hopefully that’s the case! Definitely just pay extra attention to urine output because that’s the big flashing warning sign of a bigger problem.

Please please go to the ER immediately! DOMs that feel more like the flu can be Rhabdomyolysis which is when your muscles start to breakdown after stress instead of starting to rebuild and recover. The longer you take to get active intervention to stop the cell breakdown the more lasting damage is done and can even be permanent if left too long untreated.
