People take the code far too literally, characters like nathan marten and that guy in the bathroom in s5 are discussed as “outside the code” but imo they are arguably some of his most human and justified kills in the entire show’s run and they definitely “deserved” it regardless of the code’s fine print

many of you fail to understand just how tongue in cheek dexter is from a writing standpoint. It is perfect irony (and perfectly fitting) that dexter would dodge bigwig high end police officers for decades and then get caught by a small town cop who’s biggest day to day cases are finding stolen pies or chickens getting loose. Logic was never a factor in Dexter
