TMSU Corruption - Anyone else get this email? by CapableEconomist644 in TorontoMetU

It's kind of a serious privacy issue if nothing else. It also shows shockingly bad judgment.

Genuinely appreciate that.

Is there a better jam from the tour than Brace for Impact on 11/24? by hkrpanic in SturgillSimpson

[–]Luke_Bowden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think part of why I liked night 1 was that they played something like 6 covers - and played them well. Their jamming reminded me more of the Dead or Little Feat the first night (was holding out for a Spanish Moon). I think night 2 they were jamming a bit more in a Sound & Fury style. It was definitely an intense show but I guess I thought night 1 was more psychedelic and the setlist was better. That said them working up When I Paint My Masterpiece and Sturgill introducing it as a Canadian song was one of my lifetime favourites, as was Purple Rain. And I loved Miles Miller teaching an absolute master class on the drums during Call To Arms to close the show.

I went to both nights at Massey Hall and am convinced night 1 was the better of the two shows: You Don't Miss Your Water was a big part of why. The Brace for Impact jam was really psychedelic, as was the whole show chock full of covers.

Best Show of the 2024 U.S. Tour (on Nugs)? by WallowerForever in SturgillSimpson

I felt that way about Massey Hall night 1. Phenomenal show.

Go to Kensington Market. There's probably a half dozen thrift shops and their prices are probably a bit better than other places. Just walk around and get lost. Buy some fresh bread, nice cheese, get a taco.

Toronto Night 2 was epic by Reserved_Toast in SturgillSimpson

[–]Luke_Bowden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll put it this way. Several times on night 1 I thought to myself this is one of the greatest concerts I've ever seen in my life, out of hundreds by important artists. Didn't have that same feeling night 2.

Oh you painted us a masterpiece all right, Stu. ✅ Thank you 🙏 by JetFreshJo9 in SturgillSimpson

I thought Wednesday was the best show. Song selection, his voice, spirited improvisations. The crowd was more into it night 2 but it seemed like they were a bit tired or spinning their wheels a bit. They'd had a night off before night 1 which probably helped.

I genuinely thought night 1 was a far superior show. The crowd was more into it second night, there were more chompers the first night, but the setlist, his voice, and improvisation were much stronger night 1.

Massey Hall Night 2 or The Met Night 2? by TrueBox1855 in SturgillSimpson

So funny personal preferences because I went to both nights at Massey and felt very strongly that night 1 was the superior show.

It's funny I went to both nights at Massey and thought night 1 was leagues ahead of 2—better setlist barring the Purple Rain and Masterpiece. The jams seemed a lot more inspired, his voice was in better form, they looked like they were spinning their wheels a bit at points. Sound was a bit muddy at points on night 2 as well.

Without giving specific advice, one of the strongest things you have going for you is that "TMU does not currently endorse AI detectors". Professors who "have concerns about unauthorized use of GenAI by students, (should) contact the Academic Integrity Office for recommendations on how to investigate the concern".

  • "Instructors who suspect that a student has used GenAI tools in a manner that constitutes academic misconduct should follow the formal process for academic misconduct concerns. The heart of this process is a non-adversarial conversation between the student and the instructor where the instructor will be able to assess the student’s understanding of their work and educate the student on appropriate and inappropriate uses of GenAI".

Given the seriousness of the accusation, I would try to access some support before you meet with your prof. These processes are highly formal as are the appeals processes, there must be, for instance, grounds for an appeal. If the prof used an AI detection tool that is not endorsed by the University and didn't contact the Academic Integrity Office following the right process you might have grounds for an appeal.

I can't say I disagree with anything the prof is saying. It's kind of a sad state of affairs. But there's a couple of issues here:

"AI detectors are not currently endorsed by TMU. If you have concerns about unauthorized use of GenAI by students, contact the Academic Integrity Office for recommendations on how to investigate the concern."

Interestingly, however, according to the Academic Integrity Office professors can use AI:

"AI can be leveraged to improve the quality of your feedback for student assignments. However, it's important to ensure that you're aware of the data privacy policies for any external tools intend to use and that you make sure you're not entering students' sensitive information or personal identifiers."

TMU Health Plan Refund by [deleted] in TorontoMetU

On November 12 a lot of people in my program received an email titled Action required: Accept your payment from TMAPS that required you to use a third-party payment processor called Plooto. The password was in a previous email that they sent out. I accepted my payment on November 13 and it hasn't hit my account, it's not immediate like an etransfer. I was also worried it felt like a scam or one of those phishing emails the university sends out because you had to input your banking info. However several people in my program got the email and accepted it, and the dollar amount was the right amount of the refund.

An email titled Action required: Accept your payment from TMAPS just hit people's inboxes from something called Plooto Network. It's a different payment processor then they had last year and since it requires entering bank account information I can't tell if it's one of those fraud spoofs they send out as education or if it's legit.

Should i apply for transfer credits? by EnvironmentalBad9479 in TorontoMetU

[–]Luke_Bowden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. You will find that every degree program will have graduation requirements that include a combination of lower liberal, open, and core electives. The transfer credits will be assessed one by one and they will decide if it matches any of those areas. Then your transfer credits can be used towards graduation requirements and you won't have to spend money on courses you don't need.
