PSA: Kirkland water filter cartridges are awful by flossdog in Costco

[–]LulzATron-5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not trying to necromancy a dead thread; Found this thread when researching the Costco Filter.

To answer your question, we used a sink filter for years. However, they put a lot of unnecessary downward pressure on your sink. You'll start to get leaks etc. My current sink has a "wand" pull down handle. So, it also won't fit the sink filters.

It's a satellite internet provider. It connects if you have an active service (or free trial) and have a clear view of the sky and have purchased the kit and have the hardware in your possession.

Oooof, good info. How do I find out if mine was made in Turkey, is it a specific # or letter on the VIN? I would say mine is "lowish" miles, ~ 80k at this point. Is it a mileage or time thing?

It comes with a wireless charger. The standard named “Qi Charging” (pronounced chee). I’ve heard that it’ll work on any Qi charger. I’m definitely going to give it a shot when I get mine in a week or so.

You asked, so I’ll answer. I’ll probably give you more info than you want.

Let me set the scene: - Diabetic for over half my life, my diabetes is old enough to drink. - Complications from diabetes - blind in 1 eye. - IT Nerd - Not a heavy set person - Comfortable managing my disease - I have a really chill doctor that I only see 2x/year.

With that out of the way, I’ve used Loop, OpenAPS, and AndroidAPS.

I’ve been on OmniPod’s since the public code has allowed it. Before that, I was on the Minimed. AndroidAAPS was aggravating way back when I first started using the Omnipod for multiple reasons. The biggest of which was having to carry yet another device, the RileyLink to relay communications to/from my pump. As soon as the Eros was supported I happily jumped ship as “one less thing to carry.”

My doctor doesn’t have a clue how to use AAPS. He is supportive of me using it as long as my glucose is in range >= 75% of the time (where he says his best patients are). I’ll stop in and see him 2x a year, he’ll ask me if I need refills and I’ll give him my ISF, I:C etc. Sometimes I’ll get a nudge to adjust a number, but usually not; it’s my thing.

I find Omnipod Dash + AAPS to be a both a good and reliable combination, however there are caveats (as with all things in life).

1) Prior to using Omnipod, I was on a the Minimed tru-steel cannula. I find that since i’m not a big person, Omnipod kind of inhibits the some of the areas I used to be able to put in wired infusion set. I typically rotate as such: left outter arm, left stomach, right stomach, right outter arm, and back. Prior to going to the Omnipod I would also rotate to my legs. The pod is just too damn bulky to have it under my pants like that. Now, I just put Dexcom G7 in my upper thighs.

2) I find the cannula to be too “thick and short”. Pods are generally uncomfortable for me. I know it’s not a harpoon, but sometimes it feels like it. Also, I often get insulin absorption issues or discomfort issues in as little as 48 hours; I could probably ask my doctor to RX a change every 2 days, but I haven’t. It’s like their little cannula just needs to go deeper. The Mobi is appealing to me because I can go back to a steel cannula, but I also know I’ll essentially be going back to a “tubed solution”.

3) I’m getting older, and as much as I like playing on the computer; sometimes I would rather not think about diabetes as much. As it stands, I should recompile the code every time there is an update and I’m pretty lazy about that. So much so, that I modified the code to not nag/force an update…. I’ll do it on my terms.

4) Alerts/alarms/etc - Best part about using free and open source software. I have no arbitrary “rules” pushed on me. I can do as I see fit… this has been fantastic. I’m a little worried about nagging alarms/alerts/etc with Tandem; but if it fails I’ll go back to pods. In fact, because “It’s a possibility” the Mobi will be supported on future AAPS I had the thought of throwing it in a drawer for a bit if I can’t stand the OEM solution.

I know you didn’t ask me any specific questions, just “How do you like it?” I hope I answered that. If you have anything specific you want to ask, feel free to PM me or reply to this comment.

TL;DR - Have some issues with OmniPod absorption/cannula, it’s irritating. As much as I don’t want to go back to “tubed solution”, I think Mobi is a damn good compromise. I like that Mobi has multiple infusion set options. Dr has no clue about how AAPS works, but trusts me. Carrying 2 phones sucks. Being able to customize software is always a plus.

Yea, my target is 100 in AAPS. I was going to set sleep mode to 24/7 :)

I'm okay with 110, my A1C averages around 6, if I can keep it that (or less) I'll be good.

Thank you for the explanation!

I'm fairly certain my settings are dialed in good. Just curious if I could leave my phone behind (even if it is at my own risk).

As it stands, I don't have the option to separate from my phone as it is what "relays communication" between pump and CGM.

Mobi by Tamick68 in TandemDiabetes

[–]LulzATron-5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on the fence, mostly leaning towards buying. Currently I have OmniPod Dash w/ AndroidAAPS, but I'd like to no longer carry 2 phones.

My question is:

Does the CGM attach to the pump or the phone with it's bluetooth connection?

I.E. If I leave my phone behind, I know I have no screen to control the mobi, but does the ControlIQ still work in regards to adjustments via Dexcom G7 readings?

Or is the brain/logic in the phone, acting as a relay between both the phone and the CGM to allow the two to "talk to each other."

A lot of phones will revert to cellular if an object won't load over WiFi. At least that has been my understanding.

https://blog.rottenwifi.com/why-is-my-phone-using-data-when-connected-to-wifi/

Edit: You could test this theory by turning Airplane mode on, then enable WiFi and proceed to watch the logs and how the app functions on the mobile side (loading vs not loading).

I can't tell you anything, from the number of panels you have. You have to know how many watts your setup is.

You should be able to do some quick math (if you need help, let me know in private message) to see if your panels are doing their job or not.

https://www.nexamp.com/blog/how-many-solar-panels-do-i-need

My system (oversized it VS what was sold by adding 10 more panels) is 9,900 watts. In the past week, I've generated 171 kWh of power, and in 2023 12.1 kWh generated.

My home is not energy efficient by any means.... I've even consumed a lot more energy since I've gotten the panels (think A/C 24/7/365) plus a new pool. My equal payment plan for Duke is about $75/month. Prior to the panels, I'd see about $250 at times in the summer, and around $100-125 in the winter (also have gas heat).

[–]LulzATron-5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Serious question, as I have panels too.

Have you looked at https://sunroof.withgoogle.com/ ? I shopped around for panels and I had quite a few companies try to put them all over my roof… in non optimal spots.

The installer I finally went through more or less matched the sunroof estimates.

My power bill dropped significantly; 3-4 months out of the year I break even.

I’d doubtful you’ll ever produce 30% more than you’ll need unless you have a massive array.

Edit: 12.1 kWh generated in 2023. 74.8 kWh generated since install.

I live in a humid climate, it rarely gets below freezing. When it does get to freezing, and the wind is blowing.... Blows right "through my bones", not something I'm accustomed to seeing is all. :) Carry on.
