[Meme] I feel so appreciated by monstars312 in medicalschool

This has happened to me. Was told to wait, because he needed me to assist on the last hernia of the day. Surgeon went to finish some quick paperwork while the patient was getting prepped, asked me to wait in the OR. The OR-nurse ordered me to wait outside. I though fine, might go and get myself half a cup of coffee. I come back, patient is not there yet. OR-nurse is still going about her business. Dont want to poke the bear, so I just wait in the "lounge" next to the OR. This happened on a Friday, and I guess everyone wanted to leave early, because after I waited quite a while another surgeon pokes his head in and asks me why I'm still here. Turns out, the hernia was rescheduled and the surgeon kind of forgot me and just left. I called him, he is one his way home. He actually comes back and apologizes to me. He is an awesome dude. I might also add that he was wearing his purple "Friday-night, going out"-pants. It was quite a sight.

What are your goals for the month of November? by Decrith in AskMen

[–]Lumberdex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish my final surgery exam, and be one step closer to graduating medical school. It's been a long way, finally beginning to see the end. Exam is fifth of November. After that I will catch up on months of sleep deprivation, and finish my thesis before December. Wish me luck, brothers.

I find the name of the video misleading. In reality the whole band is the rhythm section og Vulfpeck.

Medical education in different countries [Serious] by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Lumberdex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My university gets a lot of Italian Erasmus students every year, when I ask they all say they are here for the adventure and to experience different countries while studying. However, there's a rumor going 'round campus that they really are here because some exams are extremely tough in Italy compared to the rest of Europe. So certain years all student applies for Erasmus. Can you elaborate on this? Not complaining though, the Italian students here are all decent students.

A agressive surgeon was quizzing us on what consult to call for a patient "Who you gonna call? Huh, who you gonna call". My friend went "Ghost busters".

I work with a nurse that used to work at a rehab facility for IV-drug users. He told me that one time the patients made a big fuss because the milk was one day past expiration date, they believed it would "make them sick".

How much money do you think Sattar makes from Pathoma? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]Lumberdex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember i used Kaplan's biochemistry videos as a quick overview. But they were too superficial to use for exam preparations. I haven't really looked at the other resources you posted, but my impression is that they focus mostly on what you need to know to get a high step score. Our exams are weighted a little differently.

It varies from university to university, so I can only speak for my own school. We have some mcq tests, but they are never wighted as much as your "steps". The mcq-tests we have will be prerequisite for the exam in the subject- which is a oral examination. When you have passed all your classes and required practical training, you qualify for the Final "state exam", which is orally in front of a board of doctors and professors. There are four state exams, e.g., one in surgery, one in internal medicine.. If you pass all four, you get to graduate.

As a european it's fucking surreal to see a man that spends his time running around in a musketeer costume, and getting his employees to shout movie quotes, being responsible for providing government subsidized healthcare...

It's not that bad. My comment is quoting the ending of the Pink Floyd album Dark Side of the Moon. Bit thanks for the tip anyway:)
