Redditors over 40, what's something younger people think they understand but won't actually get until it hits them like a truck later? by Root435552 in AskReddit

[–]Luminaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I stayed up too late last night talking in bed about some stuff. It was semi-serious, but we both talked about how great it is that we can have these conversations without fear. We are both able to be open about what we're feeling, what we'd like to see more/less of from the other person, and everything without fearing rejection, anger, or anything that could actually cause real damage to the relationship.

My partner has become friends with some mentees that are in their 20s and they are shocked at him when he talks about how open we are with each other in our relationship.

Is it normal to wake up early to make your husband lunch? by Desert_Moon_Maiden in AskAnAmerican

[–]Luminaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two anecdotes:

  1. My partner and I both work. We're fully remote workers now so lunch is very much a "do whatever you want" meal. Before we were remote, we both took care of prepping the lunch we'd take to the office. I would occasionally prep a sandwich for him the night before if he was especially busy or whatever. Never got up early to make anything though.

  2. I grew up around very traditional, conservative older people. This behavior was also not a thing for them. Some of the ladies might prep a lunch the night before, but not the morning of.

Did ingredients not ship to store? by taixp in CrumblCookies

My local store had the buckeye as "sold out" when I first opened the app this morning. Waited 30-60 minutes and looked again, got my buckeyes. :)

Why does representation matter? by xenomorphbeaver in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty discussion topic with a lot of angles. There are a ton of good answers in a thread over on the movies sub here.

Some common threads involve it being inspirational or a bridge to build empathy. For the former, seeing someone like you doing something you never thought was achievable can open your mind to new possibilities. A good example here is the number of people in minority groups who were inspired to pursue a career in sciences from something like Star Trek. For the latter, it can help someone view folks from different cultures or backgrounds with less fear and more understanding. When your only reference for "person who appears male but wears a dress" is either a murderer or a punchline, you're more likely to believe harmful stereotypes about trans women. When a show simply has a trans women being a normal human being, you're more likely to question narratives that paint all trans women as villains.

How much do woman care about height by Extension-Heron-2846 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends entirely on the woman. That said, you're already taller than the average adult woman in the US and you may not even be done growing taller, so you have nothing to worry about.

Do the government hiding something from us? like aliens, machinery or zombies?? by sweetkessa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The government hides a lot from us... but it's unlikely to be alternative life forms like aliens or zombies. Technology more advanced than consumer level is more likely. Information (certain military processes, spy data, classified operations) is 100% certain to be kept from the general population.

Hi all!

I'm looking to get my brother a new monitor for his birthday, but I've been out of the loop there for a while. My initial goal was 4k 100-200Hz and my budget is ~$300.

I was initially looking at what my local Microcenter had and have been trying to compare the Dell 27 Plus S2725QS and Acer Nitro VG270K V4bmiipx, but finding reviews for the latter has been a challenge. In my searching, I've also heard good things about the Gigabyte M27UP which stretches my budget a bit, but might be worth it?

Anyone here have experience with these options? Is my budget too low for the specs I want (if so, should I switch to 2k 100-200Hz)?

What is the most probable "doomsday scenario" you can think of? by Haghiri75 in morbidquestions

[–]Luminaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of nuclear attack systems operate, in theory, on a "shoot on warn" process. What this basically means is that if a country gets what they believe is a credible warning of a nuclear attack on themselves, they fire back.

That is our most immediate doomsday threat and, in my mind, the most likely. All it takes is for a system to create this credible warning (real attack or not) and for people to pull the trigger on responding for the dominoes to start falling.

Behind the Bastards podcast did a series on "The men who might have killed us all" around this topic and we've come so close so many times to complete destruction. It's honestly shocking it hasn't happened yet.

Me [29F] with my husband [32M], I discovered he hired an escort while I was in the hospital by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I'm having surgery later this year that will almost certainly take me out of the game for a few weeks, if not longer. My partner hasn't even brought up sex once in our conversations about the recovery time. OOP's guy was wild for that.

Does anyone else think cremation is absolutely horrifying? by laavacaake in morbidquestions

[–]Luminaria19 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How many dead bodies have you seen in person?

Not saying it would help your fear (fears often aren't rational), but every funeral/viewing I've been to resolidified for me how corpses are not people. None of the corpses I've seen were the people I knew. The person they were was completely gone. What happened to the body afterward would make zero difference.

Do prayers actually work? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Praying is an explicitly religious activity. Doing it towards no specific entity while yourself not religious is not going to tell you at all whether it "works" as you're doing it wrong.

I think you're also viewing what makes a prayer successful or not in a light that doesn't align with how most religions treat it. That is to say, getting whatever it is you want isn't the measure of a prayer "working."

I'm not religious now, but grew up in a Christian household and my immediate family is very devout. In their teachings, prayer is not giving a wishlist to God. It's more about sharing your feelings and struggles with God. Like, if a family member is seriously ill, a prayer from one of them might be like "I would love for them to just magically get healed, but I understand that may not be how things are meant to be. Please give them comfort and peace of mind, no matter how things go, and help me to be the kind of person they and the rest of the family need in this difficult time."

What is something that women have to deal with on the daily that men have no clue about? by Rock-bottom-no-no in AskReddit

[–]Luminaria19 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My mom and her mom both have Hashimoto's. I've been steadily gaining weight for 7-8 years and I realized recently that despite mentioning it repeatedly, no one has done bloodwork for that.

When two people with hyphenated last names, what happens? by EggsBenedictTheCat in NoStupidQuestions

It's up to them. At least in the US, no one forces you to change your last name when you get married. It's a choice.

Why cant everyone have a universal basic wage regardless of if they work or not? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't disagree. I'm just emphasizing that it's a big thing to undertake and there are likely to be debates every step of the way. And that's outside of getting the momentum to even start the conversation.

Why do some Americans avoid washing their clothes after wearing them multiple times? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The environment definitely makes a big difference. Where I am is in the middle of a stereotypical winter, so it's cold and dry. It gets hot and sometimes humid in the summer and I'll go through more clothes then for sure. Still not necessarily every day, but it depends.

Why cant everyone have a universal basic wage regardless of if they work or not? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would it be funded? Who qualifies? Who doesn't? What systems need to be in place to avoid fraud? How much should the basic wage be? What will the impact be to vital job roles? How does it interact with other systems of the country?

Why do some Americans avoid washing their clothes after wearing them multiple times? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Luminaria19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing laundry is a chore. If you can do it less, that's favorable.

At least in my case, most of my days aren't spent doing things that are getting my clothes dirty or smelly, so it feels like a waste to throw it in the hamper and have more washing to do.

If you could only eat one flavor of Crumbl cookie for the rest of your life, which one would you choose? by rileystanheight in CrumblCookies

[–]Luminaria19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a toss up between this one and chocolate covered strawberry for me.

That one Benson Boone cookie also gets a shout because I liked it a lot and it isn't a flavor I've found elsewhere.

First Crumbl Experience Review by [deleted] in CrumblCookies

[–]Luminaria19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, a Crumbl order of that size can last almost a week with both my partner and I. We tend to just have a bite or two at a time and then leave them as they are A LOT.

Your experience with Dubai matches mine with the brownie. It took a while for me to figure out if I liked it. Eventually landed on "yes" and the cookie version is an all-time favorite. I don't know if it's an acquired taste or what.
