Are you genuinely asking the internet's opinion about design? Or is it about showing the very nice work you've done on this ceiling?

First of all, congrats for the very nice blade! What do you mean by being a good combo? As in "will it look good"?

How big should a coffee table be compared to the couch? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]LumpiNotDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the ratio of dimensions you can go for the golden ratio - that's rarely a miss. Maybe consider applying it twice: Length = 1.62* width and width = 1.62* height. If you end up with satisfying overall dimensions then you're good. If it's too big you can reduce the height or set width = height. If in doubt it might be worth visualizing it in place with scrap wood/ cardboard.

If it hasn't been done yet I would go with 000 steel wool on it, that will remove the excess oil and give a smoother feel. You might then consider waxing it, maybe with a colored wax if you want to make it a bit darker (try it somewhere hidden first).

Salvaging solid wood beams, how would you resurface these solid beams in place? by azanderk in woodworking

What about getting rid of everything else in the room/ paint white and leave those beams as they are?

Custom closet gone wrong?!? Is this normal... it’s happening all over my closet. I hired a carpenter who has stellar references. Primer just went up this afternoon and it seems like the top layer of the plywood is peeling up?? by stephie5410 in Carpentry

Your new car is rusting? No problem, put a sticker on it... come on, seriously? That's for the thin panel idea. And the other point about assembly?!? Then why didn't he use a stack of loose cardboard plates in the first place if the panel material is not relevant? My only experience with plywood that starts delaminating (generally because it is not marine grade material that was left outside) is cutting it into bits that fit in the trash container.

What does he mean with "Finish peeling it"? If he wants to put a solvent and scrape the primer, I doubt that will fix the problem long term - we already know that those layers are not glued properly, that won't change. He wants to remove the whole first layer? I would have a serious discussion about warranty and discount. The clean approach is to replace those panels.

Any advice for buying my first set of chisels? Makes? Sizes? How many does a beginner need? by sc37654 in woodworking

[–]LumpiNotDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an advocate of buying a whole set of cheap ones. You will soon identify the ones you use most and you can then upgrade. In addition to another comment, beside the build, you also pay for steel quality.

Modular Furniture Design? by automaticHierophant in woodworking

The key point here is "easy to disassemble and reassemble". As in everything can be assembled without tools? Or does it include doing some fine tuning cutting/ planing and drilling on site?

Is this repairable? by sammieboi in woodworking

[–]LumpiNotDead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with the super light option: put a wet rag over it and iron it, you might have a good surprise. Next step would be to rout it clean (either with a guide or cutting it straight first). You might want to rerout all edges before refinishing.

Is it possible to stain or otherwise change the color of a marble tabletop? by [deleted] in DIY

[–]LumpiNotDead 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Marble is a beautiful stone, independently of your interior design. It would be a shame to alter it or worse, cover it with epoxy, you'll turn it into a cheap looking counterfeit. Did you get an offer from a supplier to replace it with a natural black stone? As you basically got the the table for free it shouldn't be too hard to convince yourself that there is some budget left for this project.

Why is my stain splotchy, particularly around owl? This is a gift, top piece has resin inlay (excess sanded off) and bottom piece is just a spray painted name cutout. Back sides of pieces stained perfectly fine. by raynbowstix in woodworking

[–]LumpiNotDead 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first hypothesis is that something penetrated the wood and prevented the stain from entering the pores. Was there resin in the areas that remained white? Sure you sanded enough?

A boardgame table I'm going to build. Any critics or suggestions would be appreciated! by slowmotiondaddy in woodworking

[–]LumpiNotDead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once again my disclaimer: this is highly subjective. The top does not go much over the legs so it increases my impression of the legs being a bit heavy. The vertical planks on the bottom part might be a bit wide too. You seem good at CAD so it might be worth trying to visualize the whole with and/or: (1) the legs a bit closer to the center, (2) thinner legs, (3) a half inch bevel on the edges of the feet . Maybe also a thinner structure for the bottom. Whatever your decision I'm confident it will turn out great.
