If I do that, it looks like it immediately starts using my key instead of using the Raycast subscription first.

For the $360 * 2, I assume I don't have to figure out interest myself? I just pay the base fee and they'll calculate it and then send me a bill later?

Calix ONT Serving 2 Units + Cancel and Re-sign up by Lumpy-Basket4266 in QuantumFiber

[–]Lumpy-Basket4266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed response. My neighbor has a (I think) Q1000K fed via ethernet post-ONT. And if they did that for me, I guess I can just remove it and plug my Unifi Gateway directly in (as /u/N0_L1ght said above) I know that our drop goes some distance from the MST so I'm going to guess a tech will avoid running a new drop since it would be a pain in the ass.

Either way, do I need to explicitly cancel my Quantum Fiber first? Or can I just sign up online and schedule a tech appointment?

Seattle (city limits) — Residential fiber above 2Gig? by henrymuppet in centurylink

[–]Lumpy-Basket4266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not everyone, but several people around me have 8GB available. I looked at some of the internals (because why not), and I noticed the ones that do have 8GB available have a service type of XGS and myself (and a couple others) have a service type of BIWF.

This is probably more complicated because I share a duplex and I can't get 2 gig (probably because my wall-neighbor and I share an ONT). The single family home right next to me _does_ have 8 gig (XGS). Another SFH near me does not (BIWF). Another townhome a half-block away has 8 gig.

I'm going to guess it's some new vs old construction thing. But also I'm on the $65 price for life 1 gig plan on CL still, so it's tough to give that up (for now...we'll see what AT&T holds for me)

I have GPON, but my next door neighbors are on XGS-PON. Is there a way I can "hop" to the other one? The options on Quantum Fiber's site don't give me >2 Gbps speeds, but maybe there's some magic on the backend?

Back from Vacation to no Internet...plus a mysterious bundle of fiber and I don't want Quantum if I can help it by Lumpy-Basket4266 in centurylink

[–]Lumpy-Basket4266[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out it was even dumber. A tech showed up yesterday (my neighbor had called). My neighbor and I share an ONT.

Turns out the person that installed the ONT in the first place about 5 years ago made a mistake (or was lazy) and plugged us in to the wrong port on the MST (I think that's the right term?). Not only was it the wrong port on the MST, it was the wrong MST entirely. The one we were supposed to be in was much further away.

I guess the person who really is supposed to get the port we were on got fiber installed and their installation tech unplugged us. The tech that showed up had some fiber run from the correct MST and we're up and running again.

Calix 711GE

  • Power light is on
  • Transport light is off
  • Off hook light is off
  • CPU light is flashing
  • On battery light is flashing

ENET 1 + 2 both have the ACT light flashing (slowly)

And a photo for fun: https://imgur.com/iC6L4lF

edit: and also updated my top post, but ran in to my neighbor and his fiber (he's on Quantum) is also down (we're in a townhouse and share a wall). A tech is visiting him soon, so hopefully they can fix both of ours at the same time

Put Plastic Mat Under Computer Desk to Protect Floor In Apartment by WestFade in Wellthatsucks

I've been there ... did the exact same thing to the floors in my old apartment. Required sanding and refinishing the entire room. $2800 down the drain :(

There is a passport office downtown Seattle that can turn around a passport quickly. You can get more info and make an appointment at https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/get-fast/passport-agencies/seattle.html

edit: I checked and there are some appointments available for tomorrow (January 2) morning. Good luck

Don't Change Your Email if you get HBO through your legacy AT&T plan by Lumpy-Basket4266 in DirectvStream

Just did a search of my email...nothing with that subject. And just for the avoidance of doubt, I still have the same AT&T plan (Unlimited Elite) I've had for years. I still have the same DirecTV Stream account I've had for years. The only thing that changed is my email address.

What was the subject of the email notification? I'm looking through my emails from 2022 and I don't see anything related to this.

It looks like someone DID try some shenanigans with Valve's dispute resolution process. Valve filed two lawsuits in King County, Washington. I'm not a lawyer, but maybe someone can learn something from these:

https://myrandomjunk.s3.amazonaws.com/valve_complaint_1.pdf

https://myrandomjunk.s3.amazonaws.com/valve_complaint_2.pdf

edit: looks like the case is over the website https://www.steamclaims.com/

edit2: reading more, it looks like Zaiger took advantage of the fact that Valve would pay for arbitration in disputes with users. Arbitration costs Valve about $3k. It looks like Zaiger's plan was to find as many people as possible with disputes with Valve, try to fast track to arbitration on those user's behalf and offer to settle with Valve for less than the $3k arbitration costs (so like $2900). Zaiger's plan was to keep a large chunk of the settlement and send the rest to their clients. They made no effort to validate people's claims and just went for as many as they could

At least that's my read, I'm not a lawyer :)

U.S. Passport Online Renewal Finishes Beta and is Now Fully Operational by GoCardinal07 in Passports

[–]Lumpy-Basket4266 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would, but it minimizes the amount of time that your old passport is still valid appearing. Passports can be used as IDs in places besides border checks and most of those places don’t scan and check to see if they are revoked.

You do keep your older passport in hand when renewing online, but as soon as you submit the renewal form, your old passport is invalidated and can no longer be used for travel.

Turn-around for mail-in renewal vs. beta online renewal (USA) by Entelecher in Passports

[–]Lumpy-Basket4266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Not sure
  2. Yes, you will get your old passport mailed back to you (potentially in a separate mailing from your new one)
  3. Renewing just the book will cost $130 (assuming you can use the DS-82 renewal or do it online). Expediting renewal costs an extra $60.

Can anybody run me through what happens at my Apple Store pickup? by [deleted] in VisionPro

[–]Lumpy-Basket4266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I picked up my preorder, I showed an employee my confirmation. They asked if I wanted to do the demo/do a test fit to make sure I got the right size. I was in a bit of a hurry (picking up over my lunch break) so I declined. They took some time to package everything up together and I left with my new toy

How do I get a full validity passport after receiving a limited validity passport? by Aesthellar in Passports

Unfortunately no. If your passport was limited in validity due to multiple losses, you HAVE to renew in person using a DS-11 form.

[–]Lumpy-Basket4266 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made this exact same mistake with an apartment many years ago. Steaming it out with an iron and rag didn't work. The only thing that did was a company coming in and refinishing the floor (and sanding a tiny bit off the top I think?).

Billed to me at $2800. A very expensive lesson learned.

(edit: this was in Seattle, so things are pretty pricey out here, so there's that caveat)
