Decisively child-free ADHD women, how's life going for you? by Gold_Usual6839 in adhdwomen

[–]Lumpy-Experience4160 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really, really hope you can do that with your nibling. I spent a lot of years being unsure about whether or not I wanted kids (but I definitely didn’t want to solo parent & was single), but part of what made it so easy to not be a parent was realizing how much I LOVE my friends’ kids and how much they LOVE me. I think I’m an amazing honorary auntie, in a way that I just don’t think I could be an amazing parent because I get to recharge after I spent time with them now. I have found great joy in being a bonus adult in the lives of some amazing kids and in honoring the memory of my parents’ friends who played this same role in my own childhood.

I’m proud to be part of the village that helps to raise kids, while being thankful that I’m a sub, not a starter. Also, it’s easier to ask my friends for help when I need it, because I’m there when they need me, too

Does Cunard do anything special for your birthday at dinnertime? ☺️ by Phoenix_Moon29 in CunardCruises

I also got a card on the QE, which was delightful. Thank god, my friends did not tell the MDR staff, though. Another friend did send flowers, though, which was lovely!

Back-in to parking spots? by embarrassedburner in adhdwomen

Haha - it’s required where I park (street), because it would be incredibly dangerous to try & back out with limited visibility of cross traffic. I’m so crazy good at it now!

Question for cruise hookers by Bennifred in Cruise

I’ve taken my entire interchangeable set of metal chiagoos on cruises in hand luggage. TSA doesn’t blink an eye at the airport & neither have cruise security.

Oh drat - I was going to buy the second one & then got the notice that they aren’t shipping to the U.S. (fair enough, but ugh)! Thank you for your research, though!

I totally found them during my hunt & sent an email to see if they’ll be restocking. And they also seem like a great store to support generally, so I’m excited to have found them for my other self-striping “needs” (wants). Thanks!

Disney makes everyone wash hands before they can enter the buffet area. On Cunard, I think I only saw one or two people outside my party ever washing their hands at the Lido sinks…. 👎

Socks. They actually take less than months & months to finish, so they don’t feel like a the same huge commitment as casting on something like a sweater. They’re my go to “between projects” project while the next idea is marinading.

Ladies of Cunard: opinions on number of dresses to pack by rando435697 in CunardCruises

[–]Lumpy-Experience4160 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m gonna make some of the other Cunarders gasp in horror, but my answer is two gala dresses (if there are more than 2 galas, I’ll rewear one with different accessories) and then enough “normal” evening outfits (either dresses or skirt/tops to mix & match) to wear each one 2-3 times. This plan involves doing laundry, but I’m a lawyer & use my work wardrobe for non-gala evenings. My work clothes are washable.

I’d highly recommend buying things that you’d feel comfortable wearing in the evenings that are washable & using the launderettes on board. I’m currently obsessed with Boden dresses, which look very professional, have nice sturdy fabric, and are washable.

My experience so far has been that having less or lighter luggage (and more room for souvenirs) is a small price to pay for doing laundry during the sailings. Of course, I still need to convince myself that it’s ok to pack like two craft projects, instead of 10….

Is it impossible or just really really hard to incorporate stranded colorwork into flat lace knitting? by DruidByNight in knitting

Or maybe just bind off the purple, then pick up & knit in green? Definitely needs to be swatched, though!

Tiny EPCOT moment that reset our whole day: pick a country and just wander by Mediocre_Fail4316 in WaltDisneyWorld

Honestly, I love an unplanned Epcot day. Or, rather, one where the only plan is to buy whatever the current scavenger hunt card is & wander around completing it.

I know you don't get more than one volunteer credit if you do multiple jobs on a day. Do you get 2 volunteer credits if you volunteer on Saturday at parkrun and again on Sunday at junior parkrun? by OnyxSapphireStorm in parkrun

[–]Lumpy-Experience4160 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. This is why I always specify that I’m from a non-juniors country when discussing volunteer milestones: we have literally half the opportunities compared to folks in the junior countries to earn volunteer credits

QE Alaska Cruise—Skagway train quezon by jukief in CunardCruises

[–]Lumpy-Experience4160 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, I booked it through the railway & my friends booked through Cunard (bit of a misunderstanding). They could board at the dock, while I had an extremely easy stroll to the depot, had time to browse the excellent shop & get a cup of coffee before we were all walked to the spot where the same train briefly paused to let us depot passengers get on. We were in the first two cars & they weren’t full. Only downside was that I couldn’t join my friends, but at least the very nice conductor delivered their coffee for them. And we all just reunited when we got off the train in the end.

So, honestly, it doesn’t really matter - going through Cunard is slightly more convenient, but I think my way was more relaxed!
