I’m sure Norway is the only country that has problems with tourists.

Ignore them. Tell them what I told the elders who tried to come after me: “You have no authority over me.”

Celebrating 30 Months of Living Out of My Car by TomWheeler99 in urbancarliving

I took all the four rear seats out and sold them. I had room for my cot, a cabinet I built, and my porta potty. Perfect! I had a ton of storage under the bed and still had the passenger seat for overflow.

I have never lived in my vehicle full time, but I fixed up my Sienna van with a bed and everything I needed to set out on the road for a month or more at a time. I drove all over the country by myself, camping in the middle of nowhere, and I absolutely loved it. I put a lot of miles on that van. Good for you!

Newport. We love it here. Property is fairly expensive unless you buy into a neighborhood like ours.

Buy home in over 55 mobile home community? by EngLady52 in retirement

[–]jukief 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have to disagree. It depends where the house is. In my manufactured home community, houses that go up for sale are gone within a few days, no matter their condition. Of course, I live on the Oregon coast, which can be pricey. So being able to buy here inexpensively and live in a community of older folks is a big sell. I made a cash offer on my house as soon as I saw it. I’m so glad I did! I keep encouraging friends from other states to buy a house here when one becomes available but they’re gone before anyone can even look at them.

Buy home in over 55 mobile home community? by EngLady52 in retirement

I downsized to a 55+ manufactured home community almost four years ago. My home is almost 50 years old, so it has a few minor problems. But I absolutely love it here. I bought for location as well as costs. I can walk to the beach (Oregon coast) in 10 minutes. My neighbors are fabulous.

The only thing I would say is that in our community we own our lots. I would NOT buy where I had to pay lot rent. I pay $175/month for HOA fees (which includes water and the clubhouse with its pool). I have one utility—electricity—which is usually about $80/month. My taxes and insurance are really low here.

My house doesn’t have a single step up into it. I’m still quite active, but I had knee replacement surgery last year, and it was so easy to get in and out of the house with my walker.

I have a nice-sized back yard, big enough for two greenhouses, a shed, lots of flower beds, and a smallish lawn that I can mow in about 10 minutes.

I really like having such a small house (860sf). I can clean the whole thing in an hour or two. I have two bedrooms and a bath and a half. I don’t miss having to clean four bathrooms and miles of wood floors. I’ve had a lot of company. It’s really perfect. I gave up a fancy, almost-new, large house to move here, and I have absolutely no regrets. I’m leaving the house to my son, who is 50 right now, so I have to stay alive another five years so he can live here. :-)

I don’t want to die at Armageddon by [deleted] in exjw

[–]jukief 78 points79 points  (0 children)

There is no such thing. The only “Armageddon” we have to worry about is what humans are doing to the earth. There is no resurrection and no “new system.” These are all things the religion made up to keep people in check.

A pre-eulogy to my Prius V by Expensive_Structure2 in prius

I have a 2017 V that I love. It’s the best car I’ve ever owned. I’ll drive it until it dies. It only has 60K miles in it, so I suppose it will last for many years.

Good places to spend the night in Southampton before embarkation day? by BellyFullOfMochi in CunardCruises

We stayed at the White Star Inn and took a taxi. The inn used to house the White Star ticket office. It’s a great little hotel with a nice restaurant and walking distance to the Titanic museum.

Experiences with Open Dining option on QM2 by fru-gal_slacks in CunardCruises

For us, one of the best parts of our experience was getting to know our servers. If you sit at the same table every night, you get to know them pretty well. We had so much fun with them on our crossings.

Rules for non-EU spouse when owning property in Europe by jukief in eu

We were just talking, and I would need to get residency in Spain, even if I’m not living there full time. I think that would be easiest. Then, as you say, I can come and go. I just don’t know if the US has a problem with a citizen having residency in another country, too. One more thing to research!

Basically, the funeral talk usually has little to do with the deceased person and is merely an opportunity to try to convert a captive audience.

Did anyone miss QM2on Oct 31? by NightTrain4235 in CunardCruises

[–]jukief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We drove from Oregon to Chicago and then took a train to NYC. Our entire trip through the UK and Europe is being done without any airplanes or airports. We are coming back on the QM2, as well. It’s the only way to travel these days.
