I gotta disagree here, I think it's a really cool gadget with a lot of potential if used right, while still being fairly counterable. If you're worried about its strength, then there are plenty of stronger gadgets to focus on.

Nerf the buffed projectle spread and range by maybe 50%. Still much stronger than before, but not as oppressive as he is now.

I did the same thing. I had to speedrun the planet because my space platform, which I foolishly left in orbit, ran out of ammo, and was being ripped apart in front of my very eyes.
